- "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty talks with two Missouri men, Kevin Strickland and Lamar Johnson, who have served a combined 70 years in prison for murders most people now believe they did not commit. Eric Schmitt should be incarcerated, along with Mike Parson. These two high ranking officials in Missouri refuse to let innocent men out of prison on some technicality. Kevin Strickland and Lamar Johnson should be released and compensated. The state of Missouri owes these men their lives back.

@@242HP That's the Jackson County prosecutor. It's Kansas City, Missouri, @azinine fool, not Ozark, Missouri. Johnson County in the KC metro is one of the wealthiest in the nation. The Kansas City metro area has over 2 million people, several colleges and universities, research hospitals, museums, symphonies, ballet, concerts, and major MLB and NFL teams in case you forgot the Superbowl over the past couple of years.
@@deer105 I couldn't care less about the Superbowl, and I'm not interested in any place that is known for its BBQ food, either. I was raised in and lived near some of the wealthiest suburban areas of NYC and CT, and I've never heard anyone of wealth and/or power, celebrity or not, talk about how they longed to move to Kansas City. The whole state sucks, IMO and is just a place you fly over to get someplace else.
Maybe their kids need to file a lawsuit against Missouri for the loss of their father's presence in their life! All the years missed... WRONGFULLY... is there even an amount that could make up for?
This sends a shockwave to me. Schmitt and Parson should be ashamed of themselves for not creating the power of justice. If you are clean and innocent, then you should never be in jail.

When the Central Park Five were exonerated after serving several years in prison, they were released and New York City awarded them $41m for wrongful confinement. Why not here?🤔

I kept wondering - what if we just said to everyone not letting them free: "What if this was your family member in prison for crime they didn't commit? Tell us honestly - would you accept them still being in prison?" Sure that is more complex than I realize! Much appreciation everyone doing such hard to getting cases like this overturned!
You can better believe that if the person sitting in prison for a crime he didn't commit was a white man from a wealthy family, like that of the current Governor of Missouri, that this situation would have been rectified YEARS ago. The people of Missouri need to remove the Governor from his job.

Mine too, and I go back as often as possible. Missouri is fully jacked; I have work to do. I am grateful for my life and the people in it, many of whom still live and work there, and are caught up in the BS. I won’t leave someone/thing I love in an abusive relationship. 😞

This is mind blowing. I knew prosecutors sometimes knowingly keep innocent people imprisoned but I had no idea even a principled prosecutor is impotent to right a wrong.
Maybe shocking to some but normal to too many of us as black men in America, some of us make it out of the police station, but too many never make it home.

America has never had a criminal justice system. it has always had a legal system
What it comes down to is that if you're wealthy and/or well connected, chances are you'll go free, even if you're guilty, but if you're poor and unknown, you'll end up in jail, even if you're innocent. They released Bill Cosby, even with over 50 women claiming he sexually assaulted them.

@@eatpigsnot That was the point I was trying to make: that if you have enough money, you can hire a lawyer who can exploit the loopholes and flaws in our legal system, and get yourself off from just about any type of crime.
I wonder what the motivation is for keeping them incarcerated… what are the AG & Governor hiding? There must be more than a “duty to preserve every judgment”. The Governor & AG need to go!!
How is this not a violation of their constitutional rights e.g., Amendment 8
- Excessive Bail, Fines, and Punishments Forbidden Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted? If keeping people found to be innocent imprisoned is not cruel and unusual, what is?

It's unfortunate that they don't have tens of thousands of dollars to spend on an attorney or a team of them. I doubt they would have srt foot in jail, never mind prison. In the end those who can pay always come out better than those who can't.

They should get 30,000$ for every year wrongly imprisoned. Whatever the average yearly income is.... in the state they are imprisoned. Color, Sex, Religion....doesn't matter. If you expect the citizens to be an example of high morals and civility...the government MUST lead by example.

Why is 'appeal' the chosen tool of exoneration? Why not some other procedural challenge or change to take action?
Why not a federal lawsuit against the state for unconstitutional imprisonment? It seems pretty clear cut if the evidence is clear and compelling.
Anyone who is innocent and imprisoned, that is a violation of their constitutional rights. At the federal level there must be an avenue for judicial relief.
I'm truly shocked ! And clearly the people in power won't rectify the mistake. On top of their life being stolen they will see no money if and when they get out just to have a shot of enjoying the rest of their life. Justice is not blind in this case it's stupid !

The law in Missouri needs to change. NOW.
The U. S. Supreme court will hear these cases and the wrongs will be corrected. Allowing civil lawsuits against communities, prosecutors, police, and their estates will solve these wrongfully convicted prosecutilons.
No excuses, no Missouri “splainin” this institution racism. I suggest a boycott of anything in Missouri until this law and these conditions are changed.

If watching Erin Moriarty on 48 Hours Mystery taught me anything, it's that in America, it's far easier to get convicted than to ever overturn that conviction. No matter how strong your evidence. Praying that these innocent men are released immediately and that the Missouri prosecutors office starts actually caring about justice and not just technicalities and their reputations

There life’s were destroyed and charging children as adults has to stop to. No amount of money can correct the wrong. The person that wrongfully convicted them needs to serve the same amount of time
