I sprayed this on my left arm and Aventus on my right. Three hours later this one holds up as far superior and the dry down hours later smells EXACTLY like the dry down of Aventus. The top notes are slightly different but the dry down is EXACT
Well the aventus you’re basing your rationale from depends on what kind of batch quality it is. Are you basing everything off a subpar batch or the best batch of what aventus is supposed to smell like?
I just bought Explorer yesterday. I was shopping around and I swear all these fancy name brand colognes weren’t doing it for me. I’ve never smelled Aventus, but explorer smelled great!!
My go to fragrance right now is YSL Y (the edp version in the darker bottle) and Spicebomb extreme for winter. But looking in to buying some of this myself ever since I smelled it on someone at a family get together.
Take these reviews, on UA-cam with a grain of salt! Most of these niche fragrances are highly overrated. I've wasted lot of money buying nishe samples from watching these videos only to end up feeling disappointed ☹️
OK I've tried this out a few times now (it's been out a while here in France) and I must say, it is actually a really good fragrance, given a proper test and not just a quick sniff. It is definitely incredibly similar to Aventus, a clever move by Montblanc and I wonder if they remember how Creed seemed to copy Montblanc's Individuel one time?! When this hits discounters it will be far better value than Parfums Vintage imo, I'll be picking this up if I ever need to replace my CDNIM or even a a softer more versatile alternative. Bravo Montblanc!
To my nose, Explorer is a nice version of Aventus at lovely price! On my skin the performance is amazing!!! Whole day last and last with wonderful projection! Thank you Max Forti - as usual - you are right on the hot spot and give us correct info! Thank you!

For me, it's more important that I like the fragrance than that it be a good clone of a much more expensive cologne. I experienced this at Macy's today and loved it. I found myself repeatedly sniffing the test strip and the more I sniffed the more I liked it. Then came the price quote from the lady behind the counter - $95US. So, I declined to purchase at the time. But, I found it on ebay as a tester for about $37US including shipping for the 100ml size. So, I pulled the trigger. I'm looking forward to giving it a try over the next few weeks in rotation with other scents. Thanks, for the review!
I honestly can't believe how similar this is go Creed. As a man who has both I feel I could have saved so much money. Very impressed and will start to get this one instead. Long lasting too.

I have a sample of cdnim and it doesn’t smell that long on me compared to explorer I went to local Macy’s sprayed explorer at 4pm its now 11pm and it’s still projecting. I sprayed cdnim on my right arm at like 6pm and it’s skin scent now. I havent tried the edp of cdnim.. thoughts? If I should get explorer or not it reminded me of sauvage kind of. But this is super long lasting.
I put it this morning 7 hours later still smelling it! And believe me when I tell you it’s smells exactly Like creed Aventus! Love it! And I paid only 28€
Smelling it how exactly? When you bring your arm to your nose or a scent bubble as you walk? If it's the latter, that appears to be pretty rare for this offering.
Do a ctrl-f search on "performance" when checking the Fragrantica reviews. If you expand it all the way down, there are currently 211 performance comments and most of them are complaints. Even the ratings bars ore middle of the road with moderate sillage and longevity the choice.

Sillage is pretty much in the middle, which is basically pattern for this kind of fresh scents. It is not oud, tabbacco, or anything else that would scream for attention. So yea, the performance is good.

About 60- 70% of the reviews that discuss performance wind up complaining about it. The question is what does "lasting" and "longevity" mean. Some think it means the length of the scent bubble and others think it's how long they can smell it on skin from an inch away. If it means "scent bubble", 6 to 7 hours is terrific, but in my case, I'm lucky to get 3 or 4. I think much of it depends on external room temperature and changes in skin. I get different performance on numerous occasions from the same fragrance.
I think just a little deeper you like this fragrance for what it is and even as a replacement for Aventus but you didn’t want to come across as starting another unnecessary Aventus hype train. I can respect that. I think you like it more than what you lead us to believe for what the fragrance is and does. I’m getting it at Macy’s.

I’d say this more of a fresh Spring/Summer smell which is less sweeter than Aventus. Personally, both are great smells and Aventus has a huge following for many reasons, however, Explorer is good enough to stand on its own. Explorer seems to have the versatility to be an inoffensive smell which you can wear in the office yet also on a weekend city break. This isn’t one to wear for an evening outing as it doesn’t have the depth or full body notes required, but that isn’t a bad thing. On the whole, a great fragrance and at an attractive price point.

I definitely wanna smell this one! I just love this scent profile! I definitely agree that Parfums Vintage recreates Aventus in a beautiful way! Hacivat by Nishane is another great interpretation of Aventus!

Bought this cologne instantly after I'd had a smell of it from a Men's Magazine! Didn't know the whole back story of it being a clone, but I knew it smelt similar to something I had already owned! I enjoyed this cologne less and less after every spray! I don't know the whole "Cologne lingo" but it indeed starts to smell synthetic! With that being said! THIS COLOGNE IS ONE NOTE OUT OF THE SYMPHONY THAT IS AVENTUS CREED!
I have a sample of this fragrance, I was in a Sephora store and lady suggested me to get a sample of this it was new and I also got two other samples, but this was my favorite out of the 3 samples I tried out. Girl at the counter liked it as well. I think a mature man would like this and not everyone can afford Creed or Niche fragrances, so I would buy this for every day and it smells clean.
The funny thing is, I didn’t like Aventus at first. I had a Creed sample from Neiman Marcus and just didn’t get the love for it. 2 weeks ago a sales person at Macy’s told me to try Explorer. I did and instantly liked it as it smelled familiar. I bought it and now I want the Creed Aventus. I can now smell the Pineapple fruitiness in the aventus opening. I hope if I do purchase the creed that I get a good performance out of it; better that Explorer’s few hours. On a note; when I re-apply the Explorer a few times, it lasts for a long time. Anyway. I like both Montblanc and Creed. The aventus has a crisper open/mid to me. So we’ll see if I love it enough to buy it... Thanks for the review Max... 👍🏽

I am a Mont Blanc fan so I'll have to smell this out despite it being an Avetus-like. My favorite aventus clones are parfums vintage vanilla intense and reyanne insurrection pure, all the others I've tried don't compare to those two for me.
ATTENTION AVERAGE JOE For me someone who isn't big on this stuff just want something that the ladies love & doesn't cost 300-500 bucks this is perfect it smells great its not strong it last me all day long 3 sprays tbh & a girl was with me when i bought it testing i'm telling you this cologne is a hit & worth a buy i like it better than the Saint Laurent i just bought
I agree. The average Joe isn't going to know or care about "the King" Aventus, nor is he going to want to spend $400 on it. Montblanc Explorer is something you can ask for for Christmas or a Birthday without feeling guilty, and it smells great. If people who wear Creed are pissy, let them be so :)
Is this more of a 1-2 spray max or it gets to be borderline too much kind of scent (Sauvage) or 4-5 spray scent for maximum projection / longevity without being obnoxious?
Really like this. Just smelling this gem through the top and mid notes. So far so good. IMHO, it reminds me of Atelier Imperial Musc more than Creed Aventus. Let's see how the basenotes shape up.
Another great video! Certainly appreciate the time, and work you put into your reviews. I would really like to see some of these houses start pushing out some decent performers, and stop reformulating those existing fragrances that DID perform well. Even Aventus is lackluster in this area.
Yes my brother it's going to do well. Plus I believe the performance is great also that is my prediction. I believe a lot of persons are going to like it because of the scent, projection and minimum of 8 hours longevity
Good video, got your self a new subscriber. Montblanc explorer is a very good cologne but like you said Parfums Vintage is #1 with there various clones of Aventus and longevity and projection are great.
Great video max, not sure I'm going to look to hard from this one. Agree on PV, I actually think PV Emperor Extrait is as good as any version of Aventus that I have tried,
I never thought that the cheaper clones such as Zara Vibrant Leather would start to resemble Aventus and not because they are getting better - It's Aventus getting worse. I agree about Parfums Vintage and Emperor surprised me as I felt that PV Intense was the going to be the limit of what was possible with clones but Emperor is way more balanced and strong. Almost feels like Aventus in 2018 is now the clone.

I love the Montblanc fragrances - Legend and Legend Spirit are both excellent IMHO, especially given the prices they can be obtained at. I was excited to see they had a new fragrance out with Explorer. I do agree that this is a bit of an Aventus clone, but a very nice one I think, and at what I consider to be a reasonable price. I have and very much like CDNIM, which I find to be another good clone at a excellent price. However my wife made a good point when smelling Explorer on me and comparing to CDNIM, which she described as rather "in your face," where Explorer is more mellow - which I agree with. And I am sparing with my sprays - 6 total, between neck, chest and wrists. I think sometimes we (at least I know I do) get caught up in wanting crazy projection - but that isn't always what makes a fragrance great. I'm sure fragheads will write this off as yet another clone to simply forget about. But I like it, my wife loves it, and I will be wearing it. If it hits the discount bins as everyone thinks it will, then that will be fantastic. Don't be surprised if this stuff does very, very well in the market though. It's the first decent clone that can be bought in a department store, and there is a whole group of people out there who will love the smell of this stuff, not knowing what it resembles. Great video by the way - a fair, balanced informative opinion. I will definitely check out more of yours Max!

I have a Aventus bottle 17t01 and 17s01, when compared to Explorer side by side there are a little similarities in opening of 17t01 and explorer but thats only for 15mins after sent goes in another direction which is like a drydown of aventus but soft without birch and stays that way for 4 to 5 hours but i am sure it will do better in hot climate as for me where i live is a cold geography, all in all explorer is a decent scent and to be honest i wont mind wearing it every day to my office as its safe and not over powering, its better then CDNI and L Aventuer, i bought for about 75 euros last week from retail as i do not buy online...
Creed Aventus is not the same as it used to be a few years ago... Yes this DOES smell like the Aventus. I sprayed this on my hand before a night out, was also wearing something else. Every time my hand was close to my nose I could smell this and it smelled amazing! When I went to bed 9 hours later it was still there. Couldnt stop smelling it. (Wow) I own Creed Aventus and it just does not last like the older batches. Is Creed worth the money? IMO i don't think so, not now anyway - still is an amazing fragrance but not at that price. Also scents smell different on everyone and how long they last etc.
Just bought this it smells like a more smoky batch of aventus. This will be a hit for sure outside the fragrance heads. Luckily we all know this will get discounted like in 2 months so I would hold out if you already own aventus and other clones for now.
I agree about Parfums Vintage however I felt that PV Intense was the going to be the limit of what was possible with clones and I wasn't in to the more Pineapple leaning batches so I didn't buy PV Intense but their new release Emperor is way more balanced like the discontinued batches and strong. I get a smoother version of x-batch from parfums vintage.... that’s what explorer smells like to me... my wife prefers explorer over cdnim and laventure and even over parfums vintage vanilla intense

I tryed it and it smells like "Creed Aventus" ! The performance is not the same but still o.k. if you think that the price for "Explorer" is 30% of Creed Aventus!

I tried creed & no way is it worth the asking price. I tried montblanc explorer & I think it performs much better & got more compliments than creed & at a fraction of the price !!!!!

Montblanc didn't try to clone Aventus but to capture the vibe for the average Joe. Every bottle of this is going to smell the exact same. No batch variations. Creed has been unable to clone Aventus batch to batch. And for what? Nobody actually believes that pineapple note in there is some kind of natural infusion.
Exactly what I thought when I first purchased it. Mont Blanc Explorer has the Aventus vibe as well but the opening is a little different but I agree that dry down is literally the same.

You are spot in about Pineapple Vintage (especially there recent Vanilla Intense release which is better than my 16A01 batch so I sold it. I picked up a sample of Emperor Extrait and it's like the old Aventus batches. I know that there has always been batch variations but now Aventus is really reduced in concentration so it's regressing just as Pineapple Vintage appear to have discovered the old formulas. I just can't see Creed turning this around because the batches have been consistently bad for a few years now

So they finally did it huh. Been saying it for over 2 years - first department store designer to the punch gets the fame. And so begins the downfall of the market. All for one.... I guess it shouldn't be a surprise it was MB considering their similar-smelling line up. Really interested to see how sales go, but we already know what's going to happen don't we? lol In 2-5 years time, ADG and Sauvage will be overtaken and every average "Gio" will smell the same. its mass pleasing but the performance is shit. most of montblanc fragrance lacks that performance to make it a worth buy.

i got explorer small bottle other day in a sale 26 quid. It's a great scent and affordable unlike Aventus which costs the same as a new laptop.
Unless you buy decants 50 ml for 80$ in facebook groups so not much more then this scent

I’d say this more of a fresh Spring/Summer smell which is less sweeter than Aventus. Personally, both are great smells and Aventus has a huge following for many reasons, however, Explorer is good enough to stand on its own.
Explorer seems to have the versatility to be an inoffensive smell which you can wear in the office yet also on a weekend city break.
This isn’t one to wear for an evening outing as it doesn’t have the depth or full body notes required, but that isn’t a bad thing.
On the whole, a great fragrance and at an attractive price point.
Mont Blanc Explorer is flawless and gets you compliments , it grows on you, you won't be disappointed... From south africa 🇿🇦

I definitely wanna smell this one! I just love this scent profile! I definitely agree that Parfums Vintage recreates Aventus in a beautiful way! Hacivat by Nishane is another great interpretation of Aventus!

look i love creed but its too expansive. when i smelled this fragrance i fell in love with it and this is a cheaper version of creed aventus for me.

Bought this cologne instantly after I'd had a smell of it from a Men's Magazine! Didn't know the whole back story of it being a clone, but I knew it smelt similar to something I had already owned! I enjoyed this cologne less and less after every spray! I don't know the whole "Cologne lingo" but it indeed starts to smell synthetic! With that being said! THIS COLOGNE IS ONE NOTE OUT OF THE SYMPHONY THAT IS AVENTUS CREED!
I have a sample of this fragrance, I was in a Sephora store and lady suggested me to get a sample of this it was new and I also got two other samples, but this was my favorite out of the 3 samples I tried out. Girl at the counter liked it as well. I think a mature man would like this and not everyone can afford Creed or Niche fragrances, so I would buy this for every day and it smells clean.

The funny thing is, I didn’t like Aventus at first. I had a Creed sample from Neiman Marcus and just didn’t get the love for it. 2 weeks ago a sales person at Macy’s told me to try Explorer. I did and instantly liked it as it smelled familiar. I bought it and now I want the Creed Aventus. I can now smell the Pineapple fruitiness in the aventus opening. I hope if I do purchase the creed that I get a good performance out of it; better that Explorer’s few hours. On a note; when I re-apply the Explorer a few times, it lasts for a long time. Anyway. I like both Montblanc and Creed. The aventus has a crisper open/mid to me. So we’ll see if I love it enough to buy it... Thanks for the review Max... 👍🏽

I love this stuff. The drydown is spectacular. I never smelled Adventus but I know I wouldn't pay 400 bucks for it especially if I can get this for 100.

I am a Mont Blanc fan so I'll have to smell this out despite it being an Avetus-like. My favorite aventus clones are parfums vintage vanilla intense and reyanne insurrection pure, all the others I've tried don't compare to those two for me.
How was Explorer compared to parfums vintage ? Lasting wise / compliment wise

I agree. The average Joe isn't going to know or care about "the King" Aventus, nor is he going to want to spend $400 on it. Montblanc Explorer is something you can ask for for Christmas or a Birthday without feeling guilty, and it smells great. If people who wear Creed are pissy, let them be so :)

Is this more of a 1-2 spray max or it gets to be borderline too much kind of scent (Sauvage) or 4-5 spray scent for maximum projection / longevity without being obnoxious?

Really like this. Just smelling this gem through the top and mid notes. So far so good. IMHO, it reminds me of Atelier Imperial Musc more than Creed Aventus. Let's see how the basenotes shape up.

I would really like to see some of these houses start pushing out some decent performers, and stop reformulating those existing fragrances that DID perform well. Even Aventus is lackluster in this area.

Good video, got your self a new subscriber. Montblanc explorer is a very good cologne but like you said Parfums Vintage is #1 with there various clones of Aventus and longevity and projection are great.

Great video max, not sure I'm going to look to hard from this one. Agree on PV, I actually think PV Emperor Extrait is as good as any version of Aventus that I have tried,
I never thought that the cheaper clones such as Zara Vibrant Leather would start to resemble Aventus and not because they are getting better - It's Aventus getting worse. I agree about Parfums Vintage and Emperor surprised me as I felt that PV Intense was the going to be the limit of what was possible with clones but Emperor is way more balanced and strong. Almost feels like Aventus in 2018 is now the clone.

Hey Greg dont you feel as though emperor extrait is really expensive taking into account that its a clone? I mean for about 50 dollars more you could get a 100ml aventus :/

In the USA Aventus 100ml is $435, versus $195 for Emperor ex
I love the Montblanc fragrances - Legend and Legend Spirit are both excellent IMHO, especially given the prices they can be obtained at. I was excited to see they had a new fragrance out with Explorer. I do agree that this is a bit of an Aventus clone, but a very nice one I think, and at what I consider to be a reasonable price. I have and very much like CDNIM, which I find to be another good clone at a excellent price. However my wife made a good point when smelling Explorer on me and comparing to CDNIM, which she described as rather "in your face," where Explorer is more mellow - which I agree with. And I am sparing with my sprays - 6 total, between neck, chest and wrists. I think sometimes we (at least I know I do) get caught up in wanting crazy projection - but that isn't always what makes a fragrance great. I'm sure fragheads will write this off as yet another clone to simply forget about. But I like it, my wife loves it, and I will be wearing it. If it hits the discount bins as everyone thinks it will, then that will be fantastic. Don't be surprised if this stuff does very, very well in the market though. It's the first decent clone that can be bought in a department store, and there is a whole group of people out there who will love the smell of this stuff, not knowing what it resembles. Great video by the way - a fair, balanced informative opinion. I will definitely check out more of yours Max!

Great reviews. Am subscribing. Question for you....what is the best aventus batch and where is the best place to get it?
I have a Aventus bottle 17t01 and 17s01, when compared to Explorer side by side there are a little similarities in opening of 17t01 and explorer but thats only for 15mins after sent goes in another direction which is like a drydown of aventus but soft without birch and stays that way for 4 to 5 hours but i am sure it will do better in hot climate as for me where i live is a cold geography, all in all explorer is a decent scent and to be honest i wont mind wearing it every day to my office as its safe and not over powering, its better then CDNI and L Aventuer, i bought for about 75 euros last week from retail as i do not buy online...

Creed Aventus is not the same as it used to be a few years ago... Yes this DOES smell like the Aventus.
I sprayed this on my hand before a night out, was also wearing something else. Every time my hand was close to my nose I could smell this and it smelled amazing! When I went to bed 9 hours later it was still there. Couldnt stop smelling it. (Wow)
I own Creed Aventus and it just does not last like the older batches. Is Creed worth the money? IMO i don't think so, not now anyway - still is an amazing fragrance but not at that price. Also scents smell different on everyone and how long they last etc.
Just bought this it smells like a more smoky batch of aventus. This will be a hit for sure outside the fragrance heads. Luckily we all know this will get discounted like in 2 months so I would hold out if you already own aventus and other clones for now.

I agree about Parfums Vintage however I felt that PV Intense was the going to be the limit of what was possible with clones and I wasn't in to the more Pineapple leaning batches so I didn't buy PV Intense but their new release Emperor is way more balanced like the discontinued batches and strong. Almost feels like Aventus in 2018 is now the clone.

Do you still wear explorer ? I sampled at my local Macy’s one spray and it lasted me 19 hours literally... really debating if I should just buy explorer or edt or edp of cdnim.... but it’s a hit or miss with them... just want mass appealing compliments. I tryed it and it smells like "Creed Aventus" ! The performance is not the same but still o.k. if you think that the price for "Explorer" is 30% of Creed Aventus!
Smelled it the other day and it is clearly a clone of Aventus. I own L'Aventure already and i'm very happy with it.

Mark Gates both Bang and also Bang Bang were great fragrances. Wasn’t for everyone but those peppery spicy notes were just 👌🏽

Montblanc didn't try to clone Aventus but to capture the vibe for the average Joe. Every bottle of this is going to smell the exact same. No batch variations. Creed has been unable to clone Aventus batch to batch. And for what? Nobody actually believes that pineapple note in there is some kind of natural infusion.
Exactly what I thought when I first purchased it. Mont Blanc Explorer has the Aventus vibe as well but the opening is a little different but I agree that dry down is literally the same.

You are spot in about Pineapple Vintage (especially there recent Vanilla Intense release which is better than my 16A01 batch so I sold it. I picked up a sample of Emperor Extrait and it's like the old Aventus batches. I know that there has always been batch variations but now Aventus is really reduced in concentration so it's regressing just as Pineapple Vintage appear to have discovered the old formulas. I just can't see Creed turning this around because the batches have been consistently bad for a few years now
Is there a particular Pineapple Vintage you most strongly endorse? I'm super curious about X batch and Vanilla Intense.

Somehow my experience is that Explorer has a very bad performance on my skin. I can’t smell it after 1h or less even though I use a moisturiser. Any tips are appreciated

I've bought a good handful of aventus clones an this one is the best.
I like parfums vintage. Problem is that there is no retailer within the EU and I always have to pay extra tax when I order it from the US.

So they finally did it huh. Been saying it for over 2 years - first department store designer to the punch gets the fame. And so begins the downfall of the market. All for one.... I guess it shouldn't be a surprise it was MB considering their similar-smelling line up. Really interested to see how sales go, but we already know what's going to happen don't we? lol In 2-5 years time, ADG and Sauvage will be overtaken and every average "Gio" will smell the same. Then again, they already do anyway. lol At least they nailed the bottle though. My favourite fragrance bottle of all time, hands down. Thanks Max!
