Ramona Falls - two hikes in one

Ramona Falls Hike 7.1 miles
Our first hike to the Falls did not go as planned. We did not get across the Sandy River. The river crossing has no bridge and required a log or wet crossing. We hiked up the river for about 2 miles before turning back. We found a large log for the crossing, but decided not to continue. The ravine and the river were a nice. There were a few spots we have to go over and under large fallen trees. Eventually we could not continue up the ravine without crossing and we turned back.
A couple week later I returned with my son to hike to the falls. We found people crossing the river at several locations. There was a scooching (the act of sitting and slowly move across on ones butt) across on one log, and several walk across logs. We went to the large log I found on the previous attempt. I was an easy cross albeit it is 6-8 feet above the river. Other smaller logs are not a high but not as wide either. Once across we joined the trail and continued up the canyon between the Sandy River and the creek to the north. Once across the Sandy River all the creek crossings have bridges. The trail was a good one with a mild uphill. There is a 1047 elevation gain. The trail follows the ravine for a couple miles before turning off the PCT. The Falls is a short distance from the split.
This is a cascading falls similar to the 69 foot Panther Creek Falls. Ramona Falls is taller at 120 feet high with a beautiful cascade down the face of the falls. The mossy rocks are beautiful and the bridge at the creek crossing is perfect.
The hike back down along the Upper Sandy River is even better than the hike up along the Sandy River. It is peaceful, shaded and downhill. The moss covered logs and rocks were amazing. It made the perfect loop. There was a rock slide across the creek with a huge rock face several hundred yard across. As we continued we came to a section of fallen trees. There were LOTS of fallen trees. I found out in 2020 there was a wind storm the fell 380 trees in the canyon.
The reached the Sandy River again and crossed on a different log bridge. It was a bit more difficult as the starting point was narrow and a step up. Once I was moving the crossing it was fine. Also a couple dogs waded over next to this log so a water crossing would be good here too. We were back on to wooded trail and hit the large parking lot in short order. There are a couple porta-pottys in the large dirt lot. The last section of the road has some major pot holes.

Wow really pretty. Seems like crossing the river is worth it.
