Yamaha FZ6 FAZER generator/Stator testing!!

Thanks for the vid! I think my stator has kicked the bucket since the multimeter (connected to the battery) reads barely the same voltage turned off or idling.
Reving it only increases the voltage by .1V, staying always below 13V

Silly question but does the bike have to be switched on at the ignition to be able to get the first reading from the multi metre???.
