I like it, and it is in the same price range as the HF 5 ton electric and it has a stand! Thanks for giving the price and demonstration!

I own one and use for smalls and kindling, the stuff for starting up a flame its great for that but... If your thinking of splitting real hardwood rounds with it your in for as much work manually axe splitting. I also own a 32 ton gas splitter for everything else. On a side note using a grinding wheel to sharpen the splitters wedge makes the bigger rounds incredibly easier especially if your working hickory like me. If your working pine out west this is all you need, granted if you have the time, its slow. Very reliable tool.

I just got the same thing...only it's a lot shorter in the support leges. Sits about a foot off the ground.

Actually, I wanted the shorter one so I could use it off the tailgate of my truck. Would be easier for loading and hauling. I was going to build a steel table affair for when I'm staying put in one spot for an extended amount of time. But, of course when we went to get one, they didn't have any of the short ones in stock.

I would change the power switch for a continuous on, if I get one

I don't like the idea that you have to turn the motor on instead of just having a switch that turns it on and leave it run steady. Turning it on and off will just eventually wear out the switch and starter capacitor. If I get one like that I will just replace the switch with a toggle switch or some thing similar.

I've looked at a used the 5 ton , and then a 6.5 ton wen and 7 ton boss electric splitters .
And you need skip the 5 ton they do not work well. They are all same just different sticker badges from earthquake, harbour freight, lowes, H.depot etc
The $340 6.5 ton wen and $599 7 ton boss are better built. bigger motors, and will split easier , there by lasting longer because are not under more stress like a 5 ton.
I was able pick up a used 6.5 ton Wen for $200, had a stand and a foot pedal power switch.

Seemed to work well enough (perfect, in fact) for him. In addition, it doesn't sound like it's loading up or being overworked at all. More tonnage equaling more money only makes sense, but as far as "longevity" goes on these Chinese electric motors, the WEN and others always run the risk of self destruction within a month, a week, or a day despite the (claimed) power rating. I'm all for quality and "overklill" when it comes to tools, but if your gonna spend your money on light duty garbage, it makes no sense to pay for more garbage than what you need to get the job done.
