- I hunted two different spots in this video. The first is a piece of ground that I hunted ducks on when I was a kid that was sold shortly thereafter, but was recently put into Walk In. Great day for hunting and we saw plenty of birds.
Enjoyed, I would have to take and tie one of sage's legs up, there is no way I could run like you did to keep up when she was trailing so hard.
I don't think I have too many more years of the labradash left in me, but I'll do it while I can! haha. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video. Really enjoyed it.
Thank you!!
I smiled at 3:15 when Sage decides that she's the happiest luckiest dog in the world.
I commented on that retrieving post on Facebook. I'm a big fan of retrieving to hand but I don't get worked up about what other people's dogs do. If you are happy I'm happy...and Sage is definitely happy.
I'm not sure if there was a pheasant there or maybe just had the epiphany that life was as good as it gets at that moment, but she sure took to bounding around!! haha
Nice work you two! And great video too. Pa to da nay!
Thanks bro
Cracks me up watching you run to keep up with safe!😊nice video
Sadie is already in fighting trim!!!!!!!!! I just got back from 8 weeks in Montana. Had a great time!!!
Very cool! That’s a nice, long trip!
Nice piece of land good early and late season cover. I understand first hand about that spot as I had my own 80 acre public next to mine and the Governor of Wisconsin sold it to private party.(Our hunting property neighbor and we didn’t even know it was for sale dirty all around) and that was my special spot that I absolutely loved.Neighbor who bought it then turned 40 acres into farm field wiping out nesting cover. Makes me sick to my stomach and he won’t let me pheasant hunt it even after deer season even though he knew how much it meant to me.My yellow has taken to the Rex Specs pretty good and nice to see his eyes with no blood around them. Sage is great nothing better than a dog doing what it loves to do. I’ll be out by Aberdeen on Monday and no trip out there is a waste to me try hunting Wisconsin for pheasants and you’ll appreciate it even more. I should have come out years ago what a mistake. Thanks again.Nice shooting your on fire this year.Brad
Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to hear about losing nesting cover. I have the privilege of managing a piece of property for habitat and it is next to a large piece of public land. Sure, the trees I’ve put in and the food plot and slough keep the birds alive in the winter, but that would all be for nothing without a gigantic place for birds to nest. Best of luck on a successful trip! I’ve heard of some folks having a tough time and would advise being in the field when the sun sets. I’m sure you know this, but maybe someone else will read the comment and it will help them out.
@@jcwoutdoors Thanks for the tip. I don’t think I will go back to hotel until after shooting time. That last hour is always my favorite time to go after them and it’s also just really neat being out in a field or a marsh knowing they are going to roost soon gets my heart pumping like a little boy every time.
I really enjoy watching Sage work! Working on an 11 week old make black lab puppy and hope he’ll be a hunting machine like ur yellow girl. I really enjoy ur videos right up to the point where u leave ur shell hulls on the ground. I pick up every one I see while out and trash as well to try and leave it better than I found it…
Thank you. Picking up my spent shells right after shooting is something I need to be more cognizant of. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I'm all about leaving it better than I found it too. I'll pick up trash & stuff. But I'm also all about recovering birds I shoot at. And whether a bird crumples immediately, wobbles to an ungraceful crash landing 200 yards away, or acts like it was never hit, I keep my eye on it. Not just kind of in the direction of the bird, but on it exactly. Until it's out of sight or my dog has it. Otherwise....you're going to lose birds. That's pheasant hunting 101 & more critical than searching for spent hulls, most of which you'd never find anyway once a pump or autoloader is done with them. Don't want to speak for JCW, but based on what I see in videos, I'm guessing our thoughts align pretty closely.
Great hunt! Sage did great! Can’t wait to get to SoDak myself!
Nice shooting, good video and great dog work. What video editor are you using?
Thank you. I edit with Adobe Premier Pro.
can you explain how you are getting your shotkam shots? are you seeing bird flush and have the presence of mind to slap your gun awake and get a shot off before bird is in next zipcode?
just got one, tried it out today, shot 3 wild MN roosters, no video ....only video taken was of 1 hail mary 60 yd shot.
my second bird shot was killed on second shot,NO VID, i thought the first shot should surely have woken camera for second shot, kinda bummed, learning curve ,i guess. no one has a vid that i can find that explains how they get all those nice shots.( maybe you?????) keep up the great vids thanks
When Sage starts to get birdie, I bump the stock to get it ready. I probably drain the battery by doing so as a lot of times the ShotKam dies before the hunt is over, but it’s really the only way, at least for me. The flush happens so fast that I never think about bumping the stock as I get ready to shoot. And I miss a lot on the first shot, so that activates it and I get the footage from the second shot. Hope that helps!
@@jcwoutdoors thanks, that helps a bit, do you have yours set to sensitive?
Nothing against her not retrieving. My Brit will point my lab flushes and she retrieves. Good pair for me. The Brit is starting to pick up the small birds like chuckers. Were all in training.
Keep up with sage! Lol
Guy don’t get to take extra birds for style points! Flush-’em find them, pick them up. Don’t need to be back to hand.
If someone wants to incorporate etiquette into their game, there’s plenty of golf courses around the country. 😂
On the other hand my lab only flushes. I could have done better when she was younger stopping her when I seen she was birdy.
Great video just don’t like the shooting the low bird of the dog. No bird is worth shooting your dog over
I really enjoy watching your vids and I’m not here to judge you but I feel like at 9:44 that was just way to close to shooting your dog and not worth it, you just never know what could happen.
Thanks for watching. I understand the way it looks on video, but some of that is the camera angle. The rooster was certainly low, but high enough where I felt I could comfortably take the shot. Sage means more to me than anything and her safety is always at the forefront of my mind. Take care!
@@jcwoutdoors yea I gotcha, the camera does make things look more closer but you know you and your dogs limits and that’s all that matters. Keep up the good vids👊
