Thank you so very much for allowing us to tag along with you and Sage. The worst thing about good dogs is that they don't live long enough. A decade is usually about the best we can hope to spend hunting with them. May I also say that your devotion to your dog along with your attitude of respect for the land and appreciation of the birds are why I so enjoy your videos.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I do care, probably way more than any sane person should, so I’m glad that comes through in the footage. I’m proud of my dog and my state and the incredible opportunity to chase wild pheasants.
Great ending to the season. It was a beautiful day, but we had 10 inches of slush that day. I totally understand your feeling about Sage. It's hard to think about a new dog when they still seem so energetic. Deuce is the same way with his hearing... but he still hears the treat bag.
While I would have preferred a bunch of snow for late season, I was glad we didn’t have as much as the rest of the state on those last days when it was so nice. Sounds like I’ve got first pick of a litter to be born in April. lol at Deuce and his keen perception of the treats.
Great video again man. I wish it would have worked out to get out there for the last weekend of the season for me. Excellent monologue on the way back to the truck, these dogs are so special. You are doing the right thing in getting another pup, no infidelity. I was about to do that before my old Wyatt succumbed to quick cancer at 8 yrs. My new springer would have learned alot from him, that was the plan anyways. I'm sure Sage will be a great teacher. Cheers for a successful season, and yes.... October cant get here fast enough
Nice "wheels" on both of you! I am impressed at the physical fitness you both displayed!! Thanks for such an enjoyable season, can't wait for October either. God willing, we all hope for more time. I think that Sage would love to have a brother or sister to show the ropes to! Do the cooking shows, I love your hunting videos but enjoy the thoughts and banter equally. May God bless you, Sage, and your family. Wishing you continued success in the future!!! ❤
To tag on to an earlier comment---your sheer love for the land, your dog and your opportunities makes these vids a pure joy to watch....this is simply dream stuff for us older hunters. My mouth hangs open at some of the stuff Sage has done---those dogs only come around infrequently and we wish we could see that forever but things don't work that way, as you well know. Please have a productive off season and looking forward to next year---I'll be around with my grandsons working the Clark and south area---keep up the great work my friend!!!
Much appreciated! I’m happy to know that sentiment comes through on the videos. Shooting pheasants is fun, but the pursuit and the land we trek and the habitat within is all part of what we know as pheasant hunting. And the dog, the real reason we live for the outdoors!
Great ending to a great year. We will be back the first week of November and can’t wait. Sure looked like I saw my Mylar wrap on my reload come out the barrel on that third bird🤔. Congrats again.
I’m guessing I had a straggler in the vest, but I noticed that too! Thanks again for allowing me to try them out. They are legit rooster slayers! Hope we can meet up sometime next fall.
As always Great video and great season, love watching sage. Looking forward to next season in Kansas and maybe will see you out in a field when/if make a trip to SD. Bless
Great way to finish the season! You've got the best pheasant hunting vids on UA-cam IMO. You must hit that spot regularly.. the last day, the staggered triple, and I'm sure we saw Sage make a LONG retrieve on a cripple down that road you came to at the end (opposite direction from where you parked). Anyhow - great season & can hardly wait for next year!
It was a perfect ending. Good eye on the property! I went there five times, which is four times more than I go anywhere else. It's really neat and big. Seems like there are three different "zones" to that property that hold birds. I head out each spring and look around hoping to find another gem like this one! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed all the videos this year. Learned a lot by watching your pace and following Sage and her cues (started my Iowa season this year with a 1yo Springer). Looking forward to what you keep posting!
Just joined. Love your content. We hunt SD the 1st wk of Nov for 5 days. This year was our 25th. (Winner Area). Can't wait to see your new addition (pup) this year ! Take Care.
Thanks Lucas for all the videos you post for all of us. Great morals, great hunting and great dog work from Sage. Time for the countdown to begin and hopefully it’s fast.
Interesting observation on Sage how bouncy hoppy she is at the end of the season versus the beginning of the season , she’s a fun dog to watch work cheers 🍻 🎉
It took a month or so for her to get into shape, but once she got there, it was full throttle. My plan is to do better conditioning in the offseason. Sadly, nothing can replicate the intensity of the actual hunt, but having her start off on better footing will be a priority as she goes into her 11th season.
@@jcwoutdoors yah it’s hard to duplicate I’ve been using a mountain bike and that helps but I have a 4 year old dog my 13 year old is retired his hips don’t do well any longer. Your very lucky to be able to hunt her at that age here’s to season 11 👍
What a great share. Thanks. Sage and Golden Hour AT The Golden Hour :). Watching a dog that "understands" pheasants just a tad more that many is enjoyable to watch. Have a great off season and I hope you do throw up some food vids. It will give us all a little connection to hunting while we wait. Be well.
Thank you! Perfect ending to what was a record season. Sage had one cut on her foot that required a trip to the vet to get cleaned and some antibiotics. Otherwise, it was all smooth sailing once she got into shape. I’ll do my best!
Thanks, Lucas and Sage, for an honest depiction of South Dakota pheasant hunting. I moved to SD last summer, and I learned a lot from your videos. I had a triple on the 29th but lost the 3rd bird when it ran for over 150yds from the crep into private property. I look forward to seeing more of your videos this coming season.
Thanks, Mike! Welcome to SD and keep on chasing those wily buggers. Sometimes they win and it’s frustrating, but it’s a reminder of what a true challenge they are to hunt.
What a season,a memory to last forever!!!!! I Know how you feel about old dogs. Mine is 8 and totaly lame. Im 78 and feel it wouldnt be far to the dog to get another.. Hope to catch you next fall!!!!!!!!
Great film, bro. It was a spectacular season, & you & ol' what's her name ended it in style. Plenty of real hunting. Minimal grabass. Well done! (i.e.: pa nay bro)
Miss my Yellow lab, gone but will never forget her . Two quick stories: While putting on her E- Collar a Rooster flew across the road about 2 hundred yards from us into a hedge row, she broke free running down the corn flied and into the hedge row . I closed up my truck and started to walk the hedge row towards her, she came back to me running with the Rooster in her mouth. She stood in front me still holding the bird. Command her to drop, laying on the ground the bird came too, she placed her paw on it holding it pined to the ground until I gapped it . Second time I was hunting with a fellow from the Ruffed Grouse Society, about 40 minutes into the hunt we came across a huge wild Rose bush. Kelly worked the Rose Bush for thirty minutes, finally found a small opening and went in for another 20 minutes goes by...the gentleman is complaining now saying let's move along there's nothing in there in ! Just than Kelly comes out with a Rooster in her mouth....the guy never said another word all day 😂
I keep forgetting to ask you what clubs do you wear in the cold weather? Did you can still shoot with? I had a tough time when I was in South Dakota in January my hands getting cold thanks see you next fall.
I use Sitka Gunner gloves. When it gets under 15 degrees or so, I keep a Hot Hands handwarmer in the palm. And I usually have a giant hot hands handwarmers in the big pocket of my hoodie and will hold them in my hand against the shotgun. I have yet to find a perfect system.
@@jcwoutdoors thanks and obviously I did not check voice to text clubs instead of gloves! I’ll be heading back to Montana and North Dakota October 10 for close to a month so I will check out the gloves.
@@richc4231 Sounds like an awesome trip! The other thing I’ll say about the gloves is I wear them all season long and have for the past three years. Not so much as a rip or tear anywhere on them. The $100 price tag was tough to swallow, but I figure that works out to $33 a year for solid gloves and is money well spent.
@@jcwoutdoors Thanks again for the quick response. I went online and see lots of different pairs not to bug you, but do you know what model or style that you have that worked pretty well? And the reason I can take longer trips now bittersweet my lovely wife passed away, December 22 from a long battle of Alzheimer’s . She used to take some of the honey trips with me but now it’s me and the dogs.
How did find areas where the snow was not over the boots. Hunted Mitchell, Chamberlain, Aberdeen. Crunchy snow made it nearly impossible to get within shooting of the birds.
