51 - 1 Timothy: Standing in Truth

Week 1 of our series on 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy 1:1-11
1. A charge to contend for what is true.
Key thought:
Truth is something to be discovered, it is not something to be developed.
We develop understanding but truth is there long before there is understanding.
2. A concern for the aim of truth.
Key thought:
Love is both the source and the aim of truth. The motivation to teach what is true comes from love and the greatest demonstration that we know what is true is love.
3. А caution: be aware that truth can be distorted in unexpected ways (vv. 8-11)
Key Thought:
Truth can be compromised from unlikely sources; Commentary on the Scriptures should never replace our personal study of the Scriptures.
