      I know, right? This thing beats the crap out of PC's back in the day; the ones that played DOOM but it's smaller than a wallet lol. We've come a LONG way when it comes to computers. This would make a perfect media server, no moving parts, cheap (not over 2 grand like before) and very low power consumption; it doesn't even need a heat sink!

    I'm a Newbee to your channel and i really like how you fully explain things to the viewers. In my search for a faster way to accomplish the same thing, i came across this i thought i would tell you about..Raspbmc.com has a tool that will install Raspbmc onto a SD Card using Raspbmc installer. The install of the Raspbmc software is way quicker and from start to finish the entire installation with updates took about 20-25 minutes. I honestly think it took me longer to figure out why my external drive wasn't being seen on the Pi, then it did to get xbmc working on the it...Thank you for the great videos, i will definitely be telling my pals about this channel...

    I was wondering if you could make a video showing how to get OSMC on the Pi 3 to scrape the IMDB data. I have my very large library of movies but I cannot see where or how to tell it to gather covers, posters, descriptions, ratings, genres etc from sites like IMDB and apply them to the video files in a database.

    Thinking of buying a Pi3 for media centre purposes, sick of my current device (wdtv live) crashing and locking up when I plug USB Hard drives in.
    They are 50 quid for starter kits that come with kodi elec installed but I suppose I could buy just the pi and other things separately and install the operating systems myself and it be cheaper.
    Also I wouldn't need the ethernet cable they supply

    I Need some help !! I am making a jukebox using my rapberry pi , Im thinkin about using RASPBMC. Question: is it possible to have my raspberry pi camera hooked up to the raspberry pi an run through RaspBMC. The idea is I want have the jukebox with a built in screen, the camera can take photos (almost like a photo booth ) and the images will be instantly shown on the screen of the jukebox? the screen wil also be able to show videos and eveyrthing else available on RaspBmc... Bare with me and my knowledge of the Pi , Just learning about it now. Any information is appreciated.

    I want to set this up for my cottage where internet is not available. We use a generator to power the tv/lights at night. Can I set it up this way then use a usb stick that I would plug into the raspberry pi 2 and play a movie from the usb stick? The reason is I want to load my usb stick with tons of movies when I go back to the city, then when I go back up to the cottage I can just play off the stick and not worry about space.

      Le Krang yes, you can alternatively use an external HD like small 1 TB WD travel size. Load the files on it, make sure they are the correct file format for XBMC. Then set up it up as shown and plug in either the USB stick or the HD. Load it as shown in the video.

    • @ExplainingComputers
      @ExplainingComputers  10 років тому

      Yes, you can use the Rasp Pi composite video output with XBMC -- but you may have to edit the config file to get the right video format (NTSC or PAL), and the image quality will be lower (if perfectly OK, and no worse than the quality we all used to watch TV in not that many years ago). Good Luck!

    • @alexanderhardjo1238
      @alexanderhardjo1238 10 років тому

      What changes do u have to make on the config files so that we can use the Rasp Pi composite video output with XBMC?

    • @LordSandwichII
      @LordSandwichII 10 років тому

      Alexander Hardjo
      It should do it automatically, but if you are in Europe the image will come out in black and white so you need to convert it to colour!
      Run terminal and do the following:
      Type "sudo nano /boot/config.txt"
      find the line that says "#sdtv_mode=2" and uncomment it (remove the #)
      ctrl-x to save then press y and then enter!
      Then type "sudo reboot" and it should work in PAL.

    i wonder why he blurred out the ip address?

    • @Dutch3DMaster
      @Dutch3DMaster 9 років тому

      oxygenBoss It could be a wireless network which has even more security risks involved in showing the IP-address the network uses than a cable-network does. Advertising your non-public IP-address can actually be quite the dangerous thing to do on the internet (wifi or cable, it doesn't matter), because it could enable people to locate you based on your network IP or try to penetrate the security measures by hacking into the WiFi capabilities of the router-modem combination (after they have located you).

    • @JackTheAwesomeKnot
      @JackTheAwesomeKnot 9 років тому

      what? there is nothing wrong with showing your private ip-address

    • @Dutch3DMaster
      @Dutch3DMaster 9 років тому

      Your private address is broadcasted to services around the internet, encapsulated, but still, every service on the internet (UA-cam too) needs to know which computer (private IP-address) to reach on your private network that's behind your gateway (usually your modem/router combination). It's relatively easy to mimic these kind of service-calls and extract the IP-address in outgoing or incoming traffic (i'm not talking about SSL connections in this case). Even if your not showing your private IP-address, broadcasting the subnet information can also be on the same level of dangerous.

    Raspberry Pi is just a geek toy. If you want media pc do not buy a Raspberry Pi because it doesn't have enough power to see a full movie!
