This show was awesome. The entire ensemble cast was such a collection of great talent and wit. Miss this show big time.
Me to bloke this show was awesome
@@shellyweiers121...it was, Shelly. I watch reruns of some episodes on occasion...and find myself appreciating it much more . Such a well-written show.
i know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can give me!
@Matias Wesley Instablaster ;)
@Coen Louie I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I used to watch Barney Miller and found the show again a couple of months ago. I didn't realize how great the show was. Love the one about the brownies and Inspector Lugar makes me laugh. They are all great.
William "Bill" Dillard, the trumpet player. Thank you Sir🏆
"What year is this?" Just about my favorite line from the show. So subtle, so funny.
Without a doubt one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Love BM so much for everything it stood for. Thanks Guys!!!
“Oh my god, I’m starting to sound like Luger!”
“That’s okay, we caught it in time.”
LOL!
Great Lines!!! I was going to comment on it, but you nailed it...
It's so funny because when I first saw the episode, that is exactly what I thought of when he said the line..."man he sounds just like Luger." And then the punchline came! So great...a lot of real humanity in this show.
the best show is the one in which wojo brings brownies with hash and as a result fish becomes supercop
I know I’m late with this comment, but that was the funniest episode. I was on the floor when Nick started singing. 😂😂😂
Mooshy! Mooshy!
I totally agree with you on that episode...Fish enjoyed the brownies 🤣🤣🤣...
Abe Vigoda...👍
Cold opening, worked well for this show. Hal Linden was well-cast as the Captain. Landesberg, Glass and Gail was my favorite era.
My personal favourites were the very rare episodes with both Fish and Dietrich.
Abe Vigoda left Barney Miller for his own sitcom, Fish, available on UA-cam.
An episode from season one guest stars Dietrich.
Notice how "failure" is internalized in the 80's
"I'm not good enough"
Today....it's
"Help, Help...I'm being repressed!...come and see the violence inherent in the system!"
4:33 this part made me laugh really hard because I just love the expression on Barneys face. lol 😂 It just screams: “what the? Where is that coming from?”. Truth be told this is one of the greatest scenes in this show. I was born in 93 but I love watching old TV shows like this. Barney Miller is my favorite comedy 📺 show.
I love the trumpet music, I need to know it is playing.
Greatest sitcom ever made!
A great look into Barney's commitment to the Force. He feels they let him down.
This show had more than just great writing it had a great visual with the set.
Hal Linden, has always been so handsome, just like fine wine, he gets better with age.
esp in that episode wher e they all wore their uniforms to work.. wow so dashing.
One of the best things about this show is how realistic and human the characters were. They all had their quirks but were believable cops. Barney was a fantastic captain! He was one of those bosses that was tough but fair, cool and compassionate yet authoritative and was clearly in charge. Not everyone is lucky to have a Barney as a boss.
Thanks. I miss this show. Great television.
RIP, Ron Carey, Steve Landesburg, Jack Soon & Ron Glass & Abe Vigoda.
The most well written sitcome ever on television history. Bravo!!!
this was one of my favorite shows as a kid
inbredagogo I feel the same. Memories of watching it with my dad. The show brings back good times and therefore special to me.
the episodes with dietrich are the best. i got tired of fish and the constant references to his age and health. dietrich, with his intellectual and dry sense of humor was refreshing, and his 1-liners were the best...
Agreed.
Yep. Steve Landesberg, RIP.
best TV show ever! - Thanks for posting and sharing
The board where they pegged in and out is now in the Smithsonian. I think Jack Soo's badge is there too, if I recall correctly.
Even though it was a comedy, the show maintained just enough of that gritty vibe of NYC in the 70s. Or maybe it was just typewriters on the desks instead of computers like today!
That's really cool about the clock in and out board and the badge to be in the Smithsonian!
Finest sitcom ever made.
Even the character actors were top notch. I loved Nick. He always made me laugh, especially when he was high on the hash brownies...so unreal funny LOL
one set, same cast (mostly) rotating cast of criminals, and dialogue driven humor and plots. This is what it's supposed to be.
A memorable moment between four men.
I agree, one of my favorite bits from this show.
OUTSTANDING ENDING, ON THE " MUTED TRUMPET PLAYER " IN THE " CAGE " ... GREAT WRITING ARNOLD AND FLICKER !🔱🔱 💖💖💖⚘⚘⚘💝💝💝🕯🕯🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎶🎵
The Trumpet mute is a beautiful homage to ease the pain, Barney is feeling ... Brilliant! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🇬🇧
Thanks very much for posting this episode.
Wow, thanks for posting...I've been looking for Barney Miller on here for a while.
70s sitcoms >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 80s sitcoms.
How about the episode where Dietrich is at Fish's apartment, Fish's daughter is upset with her boyfriend, and when he comes to the door Dietrich does a spot on imitation of Gregory Peck. "Go away, Beverley is busy".
Barney Miller, Mash, Seinfield: the best TV writing and acting ever.
The Andy Griffith Show, Frasier and Night Court as well.
Taxi, WKRP in Cincinnati.
that's just the way it is. some things'll never change
How fitting to Barney's story is the song the trumpet player is playing. It's "I Can't Get Started" by Vernon Duke and Ira Gershwin.
The song opens with this:
I've flown around the world in a plane
I've settled revolutions in Spain
And the North Pole, I have charted
Still I can't get started with you.
Fantastic comment!!
Wow what a great show this was. I remember as a teen? Watching this sitcom back in the 70s. As a native born New Yorker from the Bronx this really hit home to me. I also enjoyed watching Welcome back Kotter and All in the Family and several other great well written tv shows created by some great minds out there. The cast of this show were all fantastic actors and delivered their lines perfectly. Thanks for sharing a moment in time and a classic ? TV show.
American comedy at it's best.
The first season, they had scenes at Barney's apartment, and the one episode where they were on stakeout. After that, they left the squad room only a couple of times.
He finally made it on the last show!
I used to love Barney miller, the storyline and the charactors, just love wojo he plays the part so well,
"What year is this?" LOL.
The trumpet solo at the end can't be Googled. I think that's pretty amazing and unfortunate. Love the ending to this episode.
so memorable.
I Can't Get Started - Tune by Vernon Duke with lyrics by Ira Gershwin
my favorite is that one and kopeckne the werewolf.
Yeah, me too. I will sometimes leave in the morning and tell my wife, "I gotta get outta here, I've got to go to WOORRK", LOL. Thank you Ken Tigar for the memorable performance.
I really relate to Barn's problem in this episode. I, myself have failed 3 times at getting a particular better paying job. After the 3rd time, I felt much the same way he did. You feel like you've been hit by a ton of bricks and you wonder if it's all worth it.
It is and don't give up on yourself...sometimes failure is a way of redirecting you on slowing you down to enjoy the end goal prize. I fail all the time and learn something better each time about myself.
One of the morals of the episod:
Acceptence:Damn.lol
who is the trumpeteer in real live...Gotta love Barney Miller as a leader. those guys are lucky...no amount of salarycould buy that...i was watching a documentary on barney miller and max gail said it was the right role for him to play ...In REAL life he is so much like his character...so nice.
Theme song off James Taylors Walking Man record, Allyn Ferguson, composer. Dan Ferguson (guitar), Allyn Ferguson (electric piano), Chuck Berghofer (bass), Paul Humphrey (drums) and Chuck Findley (trumpet). Maybe, was rerecorded every year. But Bill Dillard is supposedly the man in the cell.
What's the doc called?
“Barney Miller” was a hoot to watch. From what I’ve read real Detectives pretty much thought highly of this show. My favorite episode was “The Hero”. One of my favorite scenes in another episode was the shop owner who comes into the squad room to report a robbery. Obviously it wasn’t the first time, because the shop owner goes to the file box by the door, pulls out the correct form, and hands it to Detective Fish. I thought that was hilarious!
Nice trumpet jam at the end!!!
One of the best shows for sure up there with mash, Seinfeld in my opinion the heavy weights
Then there's I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Andy Griffith Show, All in The Family, The Odd Couple, Everybody Loves Raymond and Sanford and Son for me
anybody have a copy of the episode with the guy who thinks he is a werewolf? that was the best show. The saddist one was when Katerdam, the liquor store owner gets killed.
p52twinboom you mean
Kotterman?
Kotterman.
Bill Dillard on trumpet playing "I can't get started".
@Songsmirth I was given advice by my prospective employer on how to get through the 4th time around. Life goes on and there are always other opportunities.
Times like these have passed. No clean shows anymore. It's sad because there's not any shows that parents and children can enjoy together. Even the game shows are vulgar. I feel sad for the younger generations.
Desks without computers, what a joy to watch.
Funniest show ever.
In my book, Barney Miller is the 3rd best TV show ever, and this was one of the best, if not the best, episode. But I know the song at the end, played by "Fast Eddie" as a trumpet solo, but I cannot remember the name of it. I tried to look it up, but cannot find it anywhere so far. Can someone help me and tell me the name of the song? Thanks.
+Stan daMann I can't get started, next to this Bunny Berigan's version is the best
+sean maurer Thanks. They should have put it in the credits.
Allyn Ferguson, composer. Dan Ferguson (guitar), Allyn Ferguson (electric piano), Chuck Berghofer (bass), Paul Humphrey (drums) and Chuck Findley (trumpet). Song off James Taylors Walking Man record, name unknown.
Who was the trumpet player?
M*A*S*H and Barney Miller made the 70's. "What year is this?" What a classic line!
and that trumpet oh yeah
Does anybody have the full last episode
who was playing the trumpet?
Harris❤️💕
Nice. Though they (the network) could have done the gutsy thing and shifted the ad-sell so that the play-out could have been complete.
And to those who feel the need to make a general comparison is different eras' tv quality: there was plenty of crap on back then, and a lot less channels to dilute it.
what is this episode about?
Why did Dietrich get arrested?
he was apart of a protest that got out of hand
Holding cell blues
Its so real
Who is the trumpet player?
Mist see TV
Compare this quality show to today's garbage like "Jersey Shore" and "Dancing with the Stars".
WHY?
Jersey Shore and DwtS are cheaper to make :-(
And now they let them all out in that area.

You don’t want to be a deputy inspector. Look at the two you have. Luger and Scalon. OMG. I think they are feared. They behave like political hacks. I’ve never been able to see what they contribute besides walking around.
