Angeal trained Zack, who trained Cloud. Basically, Cloud is only possible because of Angeal. Who was the best friend of Sephiroth. Who in turn went crazy without his friends. And became the villain that Cloud fought in the end. It's like Angeals spirit came to took his friend to sanity.

He didn't get every memory of Zack though, as he never knew Aerith. Also because his own real memories and Zack's are mixing up that's why many times in the game he tends to lose his shit when asked about his past life. Because how would he get Zack's 1st Class skills without also getting some of his memories?
And Zack embodies all three of their best qualities. He is both compassionate and has the fighting instinct of pre-nibbleheim Sephiroth, Genesis'' passion for being a hero and strong and finally the morality and restraint of Angeal. He's the best soldier Shinra could've groomed yet everything was invested on those three.

I love sephiroth's fighting style. No flashy spins, no sword flourishes, he has an elegance to his swordplay that requires no fancy (and quite stupid) moves.
A lot harder in kh1 I felt like having an hard time on proud,in kh2 or kh2fm it was more easy on critical,terra I've just killed once on critical,sephiroth was like 20 times (since this sephiroth on 1 and 2 isn't the real sephiroth,but Cloud's darkness)Terra was a LOOOOT harder,wich is sad,since sephiroth is FF most badass villain.
Notice that Sephiroth's hand work is so incredible. He uses fluid figure 8 wrist movements to maintain momentum without having to slash and stop. Additionally, he adapts his odachi for closer combat by deflecting and striking with the area of the sword closer to the cross guard. Ahhh. Final Fantasy's attention to detail.
The epic three-way showdown that is part swordfight and part L'Oreal commercial. No matter how different each FF game is from one another you can be sure that everyone has gorgeous hair!
This scene is actually really sad. The fighting's amazing and all, but it's sad because it shows how happy Sephiroth was before he went insane. He had friends, a nice life, and seemed pretty happy and at peace. It actually makes me angry that he had to become the villain, because he was such a great hero, and I'd like to see him fight side by side with Cloud rather than against him, even if it were some quirky alternate universe.
The other sad thing is that it would HAVE to be an alternate universe. Sephiroth has already done so much evil that he's went passed the point of redemption. If he did somehow decide to become good again. It would have to be a long and arduous trial. It would consist of reviving people and rebuilding everything he's destroyed. And im pretty sure the final fantasy world wouldn't forgive him anyway even if he does somehow manage to do all of those things.
not to mention he is kinda a celebrity. But it's exactly because he is at the top spot for so long he has nothing else to work towards, so he has to look elsewhere which is his fixation on Jenova.

If you look at 3:40 you would notice that when Angeal blocked Genesis' sword his hand didn't move from the force Genesis exerted. But when Angeal blocked Sephiroths' sword it budged him a little. Notice how Angeal looked at Sephiroth thinkinh "really bro your fighting seriously?"

What strikes me every time I watch this is just how plain happy Sephiroth seems here. His expression practically scream "YAY I HAVE FRIENDZ TO SPEND TIME WITH" and it makes me so sad to think how this friendship crumbled :(
I'd also say Sephiroth did not became ''evil'' because he learned of his origins and thought JENOVA is his mother. The main reason could be he lost all his friends to the exactly same experiment. And if Shinra had never experimented on JENOVA and him, nothing would also happen to his friends. Like in the lyrics of One Winged Angel; ''Burning inside with violent anger Fate - monstrous And empty'' empty could be mean he has no more friends and no one to love. His mother his dead, he has no father, his friends are all gone. His new and last friend was Zack who looked up to him but was obsessed by becoming a hero and Soldier honor. How could he love and treat someone as a friend if the person was obsessed with the organization who destroyed his entire life? I think if instead Cloud and Zack, Genesis and Angeal would be there as he learned about the truth he would not become an villain. This is my interpretation. The injury Genesis sustains in this spar-that-went-too-far never heals, it leads to his degradation, his desertation, the Genesis War, which in turn led to Sephiroth finding out his origin, the Nibelheim incident and thus Sephiroth's own fall from grace? If so, holy hell...all this from guys play-fighting a bit too hard?!

I wish Square would give us a chance to play as Sephiroth back when he was friends with Genesis and Angeal, so that way we could experience some fluffy happiness and not see him as a dark possessed person.

Genesis was part of project G, which meant he had jenova cells implanted into him as a fetus, but the cells were never fixed in the body, so over time genesis would start contracting symptoms of degradation. funnily enough, that scrape would never heal for genesis' entire life.

You know what, as good as One Winged Angel and Cloud's fight with Sephiroth is, I think I liked Sephiroth better in this time period before he went insane. He's more interesting and collected in this fight.
Yeah, that is why this game is Just as good as FF7 was. It shows HOW he was before he went insane and who else was insane by Hojo and the Shin-Ra's experiments on them. It also has shown why zack shined in the movie and game before his death and afterwards.

Yes, thats also why he lost to cloud in ff7, he just wasnt trying or he did not feel the need to try and fight hard because he was so OP. The producers confirmed this, they themself said that sephirot is by far the most powerfull beeing in ff7 but he only lost because of his cockiness.
He lost in Advent Children for the same reason. He was just toying with Cloud until Cloud got the plot mandated win. The most telling thing is the audio. Cloud's sucking air and grunting constantly. Sephiroth's quiet as a church mouse. Cloud's trying as hard as he can and Sephiroth isn't even putting in any effort. Arrogantly toying with opponents is Sephiroth's kryptonite.

I just noticed how Sephiroth simply says, "come and try" when challenged by Genesis to a kind of "hero test", but later in the game, when Genesis asks who of them would be the one to play the hero in an enactment of LOVELESS, Sephiroth says, "It's all yours." Plus I've been wondering lately what those hours in which Genesis "beat" LOVELESS into Sephiroth's head might've looked like.
Tried to find a video of him monologuing, but I didn't find anything good. There're videos of Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts monologuing, but Sephiroth doesn't do much philosophy, unfortunately.
Thank George Newbern for that. ;) If those of you don't know, he's also known for the voice of Superman in most of the DC Comic hero series and Meyvn Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2 where Rick Gomez (Zack) and his own brother were Gippal and Baralai. And he's also from Father of the Bride movies and an assassin character in the primetime show called Scandal. I mean we all know he's the only undisputed VA for Sephiroth even though we all try to forget about the other time where in English version (which is in Kingdom Hearts 1) Sephiroth was originally voice acted by Lance Bass, a homosexual(no offense intended) member of the popular boy band called *N'SYNC. XD Well, I know I believed that he was a miscast back then, but I just don't know how the hell did he even get Sephiroth's part in the first place lol. With all the likes for his *N'SYNC background and due respect to his gay community, but his voice was too light for that badass character. Well, however, there's one good thing we can admit about Lance is that his *N'SYNC musics(even every other 90's classical musics) were WAY better than the nowadays musics(no offense to some of you). :P And the bright side is I would love to see him better off as a different Final Fantasy or the Kingdom Hearts character. Some say that maybe as Kuja or Zell or Genesis. A coincidental part is that both Lance and George had a same eye colors as Sephiroth. o_o

You can tell sephiroth is just toying around during the fight. He had multiple opportunities to end it the whole time. With his speed and reaction time he could easily just launch a thrust at them as they telegraph those heavy swings. And when he static blocked the charged swing that leaves a crater once Genesis starts to solo. He could have easily stepped forward and adjusted the angle of his blade to let Genesis's sword slide down so he could enter his inside line and perform a sweeping cut on Genesis's legs or lower torso or pull his elbow back in for straight on slash. Sephiroth wasn't smirking in impress, it was at the fact that he was in a perfect position to counter. Genesis smirked knowing that, which is why he was quick to flip backwards away and retreat from their lock once he saw sephiroth begin to move. The challenge here for sephiroth is not so much fighting them both off, it is in doing so in a way that challenges his own level of control and situational wisdom. It takes considerable skill to fight with live steel against an opponent without accidentally injuring them. You both need to have a good understanding in what the both of you can and can't handle. Once Genesis's ego and drama queen hero complex resulted in him blasting a fire attack on one of their closest friends in what was supposed to be a friendly exercise, the challenge and fun was over for sephiroth. It's why his expression changes to anger after he cleaves apart the fire attack. When Angeal stops them, sephiroth is surprised to see him unhurt, and he is relaxed for the rest of the seen. Even when Genesis screams at Angeal to move and continues an attack on the both of them, likely because he is confident he can subdue Genesis before anyone gets hurt. None of them were expecting the sword to break. The whole time afterwards in the scene Sephiroth shows no outwards worry or sympathy for Genesis's wound. Likely because he knows it was Genesis's ego and disregard for their safety that led to the red soldier's wound in the first place.
I agree with this breakdown. It’s clear Sephiroths “Challenge” here is to prevent himself from injuring his friends which requires a tremendous amount of skill. He could have easily killed them both. It wasn’t until Genesis took it too far that Sephiroth begins to get annoyed and start trying to put him in his place. Angela stepped in at the right time, which also requires skill but again Genesis still wants to take it further. It’s clear that if Sephiroth is a perfect 10 Angeal is a 7.5 and Genesis is a 6.
Shawnee Longbow Actually in Advent Children he does occasionally switch to a right hand stance. Sephiroth is left handed, but he trained himself to be ambidextrous, which is possible with practice.

The fireballs that Genesis casted at Sephiroth are what damaged the training room. When the simulation ends, you can see the damage in the back corner of the room, in the direction he casted them.

i just feel sad when watching this again. They are good friend and they might have some problems among themselves, especially between Sephiroth and Genesis, but they never really hate each other. But in the end, none of them fare well: Angeal died, Sephiroth went insane and intended to destroy the world, and Genesis might have come back to his senses after he was cured, but he already loses 2 of his best friends and now his fate is unknown.

Genesis has a very warped concept of what a hero is. Heck it even made Sephiroth uncomfortable and considering what Seph's already been through that's saying something.
@@myschnozhurts1522 sorry, I didn’t communicate clearly enough. My B. I meant that he blocked Genesis with the standard-issue sword and Sephiroth with the Buster Sword because if he switched it around, Sephiroth would’ve shattered the Shinra sword instantly and killed him.
Basically, the wound Genesis gets here won't heal because Genesis starts degrading around this time. He investigates and finds out stuff about his creation that drives him insane and cause him to defect from Shinra. Angeal also finds out and becomes depressed and suicidal basically. Then Sephiroth, already dealing with his friends abandoning and betraying him for unknown reasons, finds Jenova in NIbelheim and finds out his own origins which pushes him over the edge (Sephiroth was always very close to losing it from what I can gather. His upbringing was not good for mental health. He was just good at hiding how broken of a person he actually was).
2:56 When Sephiroth cuts through those pipes in precise lines it’s pretty symbolic to tell that Genises here is crossing the line by going all in an blasting Angeal an all that, then Sephiroth proceeds to go all out after giving that death stare. My favourite part of the fight.

We also watched some films during class, but all of these had some educational value (e.g tuck and dale vs evil in english during english class to adapt our ears to english pronounciation and to teach the kids to not judge a book by its cover in a funny way) The only effect that you achieve as teacher by showing this clip is that half of the class would think of the teacher as weeb weirdo. Anime in NA and EU isnt that big.

Kiero Vance™ I'd recommend 6, and then work up :) 6 then 7, then 8 then 9, then 10. Those are the best in the series IMO. If you really enjoy them play more, but those are the best ones. I think everyone should play 7, 9 and 10 at least once in their life!
@@Killer_Kris7 actually it does. He's character arc is very well written compared to Sephiroth and he even had multiple games to explore his character and even movies. Kefka had only one game and it really fleshed out his character so well it's a shame that FF6 only had the one game in its name compared to FF7 having over 4 games and a few films. Don't get me wrong, it does not mean Sepiroth is a bad character. He very well made but compared to someone like Kefka, he doesn't stand a chance

Notice that Sephiroth's hand work is so incredible. He uses fluid figure 8 wrist movements to maintain momentum without having to slash and stop. Additionally, he adapts his odachi for closer combat by deflecting and striking with the area of the sword closer to the cross guard. Ahhh. Final Fantasy's attention to detail.

This scene is actually really sad. The fighting's amazing and all, but it's sad because it shows how happy Sephiroth was before he went insane. He had friends, a nice life, and seemed pretty happy and at peace. It actually makes me angry that he had to become the villain, because he was such a great hero, and I'd like to see him fight side by side with Cloud rather than against him, even if it were some quirky alternate universe.

The other sad thing is that it would HAVE to be an alternate universe. Sephiroth has already done so much evil that he's went passed the point of redemption. If he did somehow decide to become good again. It would have to be a long and arduous trial. It would consist of reviving people and rebuilding everything he's destroyed. And im pretty sure the final fantasy world wouldn't forgive him anyway even if he does somehow manage to do all of those things.

I'd also say Sephiroth did not became ''evil'' because he learned of his origins and thought JENOVA is his mother.
The main reason could be he lost all his friends to the exactly same experiment. And if Shinra had never experimented on JENOVA and him, nothing would also happen to his friends.

The injury Genesis sustains in this spar-that-went-too-far never heals, it leads to his degradation, his desertation, the Genesis War, which in turn led to Sephiroth finding out his origin, the Nibelheim incident and thus Sephiroth's own fall from grace?

I just noticed how Sephiroth simply says, "come and try" when challenged by Genesis to a kind of "hero test", but later in the game, when Genesis asks who of them would be the one to play the hero in an enactment of LOVELESS, Sephiroth says, "It's all yours."
Plus I've been wondering lately what those hours in which Genesis "beat" LOVELESS into Sephiroth's head might've looked like.

If those of you don't know, he's also known for the voice of Superman in most of the DC Comic hero series and Meyvn Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2 where Rick Gomez (Zack) and his own brother were Gippal and Baralai. And he's also from Father of the Bride movies and an assassin character in the primetime show called Scandal.
I mean we all know he's the only undisputed VA for Sephiroth even though we all try to forget about the other time where in English version (which is in Kingdom Hearts 1) Sephiroth was originally voice acted by Lance Bass, a homosexual(no offense intended) member of the popular boy band called *N'SYNC. XD Well, I know I believed that he was a miscast back then, but I just don't know how the hell did he even get Sephiroth's part in the first place lol. With all the likes for his *N'SYNC background and due respect to his gay community, but his voice was too light for that badass character. Well, however, there's one good thing we can admit about Lance is that his *N'SYNC musics(even every other 90's classical musics) were WAY better than the nowadays musics(no offense to some of you). :P And the bright side is I would love to see him better off as a different Final Fantasy or the Kingdom Hearts character. Some say that maybe as Kuja or Zell or Genesis.
A coincidental part is that both Lance and George had a same eye colors as Sephiroth. o_o

You can tell sephiroth is just toying around during the fight. He had multiple opportunities to end it the whole time. With his speed and reaction time he could easily just launch a thrust at them as they telegraph those heavy swings. And when he static blocked the charged swing that leaves a crater once Genesis starts to solo.
He could have easily stepped forward and adjusted the angle of his blade to let Genesis's sword slide down so he could enter his inside line and perform a sweeping cut on Genesis's legs or lower torso or pull his elbow back in for straight on slash. Sephiroth wasn't smirking in impress, it was at the fact that he was in a perfect position to counter. Genesis smirked knowing that, which is why he was quick to flip backwards away and retreat from their lock once he saw sephiroth begin to move.
The challenge here for sephiroth is not so much fighting them both off, it is in doing so in a way that challenges his own level of control and situational wisdom. It takes considerable skill to fight with live steel against an opponent without accidentally injuring them. You both need to have a good understanding in what the both of you can and can't handle. Once Genesis's ego and drama queen hero complex resulted in him blasting a fire attack on one of their closest friends in what was supposed to be a friendly exercise, the challenge and fun was over for sephiroth. It's why his expression changes to anger after he cleaves apart the fire attack.
When Angeal stops them, sephiroth is surprised to see him unhurt, and he is relaxed for the rest of the seen. Even when Genesis screams at Angeal to move and continues an attack on the both of them, likely because he is confident he can subdue Genesis before anyone gets hurt. None of them were expecting the sword to break. The whole time afterwards in the scene Sephiroth shows no outwards worry or sympathy for Genesis's wound. Likely because he knows it was Genesis's ego and disregard for their safety that led to the red soldier's wound in the first place.
I agree with this breakdown. It’s clear Sephiroths “Challenge” here is to prevent himself from injuring his friends which requires a tremendous amount of skill. He could have easily killed them both. It wasn’t until Genesis took it too far that Sephiroth begins to get annoyed and start trying to put him in his place. Angela stepped in at the right time, which also requires skill but again Genesis still wants to take it further. It’s clear that if Sephiroth is a perfect 10 Angeal is a 7.5 and Genesis is a 6.

Damn, I remember watching this at the first time, the clash at 0:50 was something unbelievable. Sephiroth simply and elegantly holding back two attakers can be described as nothing but "Epic".
He actually blocks two attacks with one swing without looking at one point and I’m not sure if it’s really cool or stupid.

The fireballs that Genesis casted at Sephiroth are what damaged the training room. When the simulation ends, you can see the damage in the back corner of the room, in the direction he casted them.

i just feel sad when watching this again. They are good friend and they might have some problems among themselves, especially between Sephiroth and Genesis, but they never really hate each other. But in the end, none of them fare well: Angeal died, Sephiroth went insane and intended to destroy the world, and Genesis might have come back to his senses after he was cured, but he already loses 2 of his best friends and now his fate is unknown.

seeing the friendship and banter between these three is heartbreaking when you consider what happens to them.
What happened
Basically, the wound Genesis gets here won't heal because Genesis starts degrading around this time. He investigates and finds out stuff about his creation that drives him insane and cause him to defect from Shinra. Angeal also finds out and becomes depressed and suicidal basically. Then Sephiroth, already dealing with his friends abandoning and betraying him for unknown reasons, finds Jenova in NIbelheim and finds out his own origins which pushes him over the edge (Sephiroth was always very close to losing it from what I can gather. His upbringing was not good for mental health. He was just good at hiding how broken of a person he actually was).

We also watched some films during class, but all of these had some educational value (e.g tuck and dale vs evil in english during english class to adapt our ears to english pronounciation and to teach the kids to not judge a book by its cover in a funny way)

Kiero Vance™ I'd recommend 6, and then work up :) 6 then 7, then 8 then 9, then 10. Those are the best in the series IMO. If you really enjoy them play more, but those are the best ones. I think everyone should play 7, 9 and 10 at least once in their life!

@@Killer_Kris7 actually it does. He's character arc is very well written compared to Sephiroth and he even had multiple games to explore his character and even movies. Kefka had only one game and it really fleshed out his character so well it's a shame that FF6 only had the one game in its name compared to FF7 having over 4 games and a few films. Don't get me wrong, it does not mean Sepiroth is a bad character. He very well made but compared to someone like Kefka, he doesn't stand a chance

We hated him, he went way to far and we did way too little too late. Still, not an interesting character.
