“We mustn’t ignore the 48%, therefore we need to leave but not go far.” So if Labour won an election we should consider those that voted conservative and adopt their policies together with ours? What a ridiculous statement and a pointless mind numbing interview.
Emily Thornberry & Corbyn's cabinet have been doing an excellent job. Proud Labour member here, keep up the good work! There's hope for revolution yet.
Trust the Labour politicians to fail to understand the economic downsides of a customs union. Especially for the poor. Beautiful consequences for the developing world at the same time. With friends of the people like these who needs enemies.
Maybe, but the worlds most renowned economists helped with the Labour manifesto and continue to consult. Remain is the best choice, Labours permanent customs union is the second best and meets in the middle with the leave vote. They also push for green new deal and job creation. Far more progressive economically than any other uk party certainly if they retain the ideas proposed in the last manifesto. There's hope yet Graham.
An Independent Northern Ireland as an EU member state is the best answer to Brexit and the best compromise. Our wee country for all who dwell within it.
what is that "mmm" about... so weird... but no to a second referendum! The will of the people has been undermined and many normal folk are feeling it in everyday life. Its one thing after another. Frankly I think we want the government to stop messing around with us like we're numbers, either do your job and protect the country and its people, or just do one. Too many power seeking empty people in charge.
2:00 F@#k Me, she doesn't even know what the Backstop is! OMG how the hell can any Labour Front-bencher not know what the Backstop is? These are the people who have been voting in Parliament about whether or not to allow one.!
She knows full well and has explained it on other interviews. There's a big difference between permanent customs union and the backstop. Ridge didn't allow that conversation. That's the unicorns and rainbows bit.
@@gregchurchill4883 not in this interview, she doesn't. Yes, there's a difference between temporary and permanent. There's also a difference between my idea of "temporary" and the EU's.
I was a labour voter for years. I did like corbyn. But he’s surrounded himself with complete idiots. I lost respect when he changed his mind on brexit all for party politics. The Labour Party is so out of touch with the working class now. Cannot stand thornberry
I know its painful, however remember only a third of labour supporters voted leave, the majority 2 thirds voted remain, corbyn was always going to be overwhelmed eventually not to mention 70% of MPs are remain MPs. Do not give up hope vote for Corbyn.
reemaabdi25 unfortunately labour has lost my vote. Which is a shame. As I do like corbyn as I’ve said. I can’t cope with thornberry, abbot, lammy..... cannot vote tories. Lost hope in politics completely
Morgan Farrelly thornberry is a very clever lawyer and knows her stuff no doubt. But not a good politician, corbyn is far from perfect. I like him as a anti establishment politician, but contradicts himself on Palestine and comes across anti British. Which is where the Labour Party are.
Leave means leave WTO rules ok after nearly 3 years extension then extension what have our government and parliament be doing ( not a lot) leave means leave
MPs are elected and paid to represent and serve the people The people have made it clear they want genuine Brexit - not dodgy deals Democracy = No Deal Brexit No more pantos please
2016 referendum was only for people opinion. People who think they are betrayed by government that's not right. There are two types of referendum that have been held by the UK Government, pre-legislative (held before proposed legislation is passed) and post-legislative (held after legislation is passed). To date the previous three UK-wide referendums in 1975, 2011 and 2016 were all pre-legislative. Referendums are not legally binding, so legally the Government can ignore the results.
If UK gets out of EU without any Deal then it can hamper its standing in International Community. UK's Aerospace, Agriculture, Services, Manufacturing Industry etc is very much intertwined with EU after so many decades.
I agree the EU has been standing on the UK's shirt tails for a very long time. However its time to cut the cord, their education in living peacefully among one another is over, its time for them to put all we taught them into practice as we move to more distant parts of the world to meet with our trading friends who do not charge us a membership fee for us to buy more from them, than they buy from us.
It's time to be more clear and explain to the public what they have to offer. Problem with labour under corbon is that they're not clear and they'll have to pay the price. They should back a public vote so that public can make a choice. Both leadership (Tory and labour) are both thinking for their party's interest and I'm afraid that both will suffer.
How can a socialist Britain (which labour want to build) be built in a capitalist Europe? It’s constitution is committed to capitalism. Read the treaties that labour were so committed to sign.
Right this lady said what??????? We need to be out of the EU but not very far, what what what?????? What a ffffflipping mess really. Absurd doesn't cover it!!
With Emily Dangleberry, Diane "Human Calculator" Abbott and Germ Corbyn mincing about the corridors of power it is just easy to see why our country is heading further down the KARSI !!!!!
"We need to be out of the EU but in a customs union and in the single market without a say on things are decided." Why not stay in the customs union and the single market while having a say on how things are decided? Stay in the EU.

Parliament is 'out of control'. We voted to direct them on a particular matter (two elections and a referendum), and they ignore and belittle us. Who controls Parliament if not the electorate?
If she would just stop demanding a second referendum and her associates we might get somewhere with May’s deal but they are determined to overthrow the referendum result which is why they keep voting it down. Do they really think we are so naive that we don’t understand what’s going on?

If we had a referendum on that probably 75% of the country would vote for it. That's the problem with democracy. :-)

But not as out of control as this woman's appetite....
She betrayed her total lack of understanding of the backstop - Ms Ridge is right - the whole Brexit project is daft - Mrs May is a disaster

The only way we leave the EU is at the second referendum we all vote for the brexit party, unfortunately they won't be on every ballot paper
God,looking at this now, it so shows what these people really are.
A lawyer.
Blame David Cameron, where is he now?? On the beach sunning himself.
Just imagine Thornberry as home secretary! OMFG Help!
@Labour/Remain Oh yes! My mistake. Man that's a sobering thought. The calibre of our politicians these days is truly woeful.
