- 楊門圈，一個打漁經驗超過半世紀的漁夫，家門前的這片大海對他來說，就像是父母親一般的存在，幫助他承擔起一家之主的重責大任。自小生活在海邊，與大部分客家人的農耕記憶不同，在他出生以前，家裡的田地已變賣殆盡，父祖輩早就轉向海洋發展，於是，當他結束國民義務教育，很快地就躲進父親的船艙，幫忙出海捕魚分擔家計。「手工織網」是身為漁夫的必備技術，即使父親曾笑他笨拙拖累進度，但是楊門圈仍抱持著矢勤矢勇的態度，自己蒐集破網、仔細觀察父親織網的動作學習手織漁網。
數十年過去，早已是漁會靈魂人物的楊門圈，手織漁網再也難不倒他，親手雕刻出一只織網針也不過小菜一碟，只是在他二十幾歲當漁夫的時候，日本傳來的尼龍網線、捲網機，早早就取代了手工編織的漁網……時代的進步並不使他沮喪，因為他本來就是一個求新求變的人，能夠提升漁獲量的技術，他都張開手臂歡迎。同時，他依然努力把手工織網的技術傳承給孫子，因為時至今日，當漁網破洞，仍舊必須仰賴人類的雙手才能修補。
「網」的破洞要靠手來修補，「忘」的破洞要靠世代傳承來避免，楊門圈盯著孫子一目又一目地編織著漁網，期許他能牢記「人不能忘本」，如此重要的叮嚀。
Men-Chuan Yang, a fisherman with over half a century of fishing experience, sees the ocean in front of his home as if it were his parents, helping him shoulder the heavy responsibility of being the head of the family. Unlike most Hakka people who have memories of farming, he grew up by the sea and his family's fields had been sold off before he was born. His ancestors had already turned to the ocean for development. So, when he finished his compulsory national education, he quickly hid in his father's cabin and helped catch fish at sea to share the family's expenses. Hand-woven netting is an essential skill for fishermen. Even though his father once laughed at him for being clumsy and slowing down progress, Men-Chuan Yang still maintained a diligent and courageous attitude, collecting broken nets and carefully observing his father's net-weaving movements to learn how to weave fishing nets by hand.
Decades have passed, and Men-Chuan Yang, who is already the soul of the fishing association, is no longer daunted by hand-woven fishing nets. Carving a net-weaving needle by hand is just a piece of cake for him. However, when he was in his twenties as a fisherman, nylon netting and netting machines from Japan had already replaced hand-woven fishing nets… He was not discouraged by the progress of the times because he was always a person who sought new and changed. He welcomed any technology that could increase the catch with open arms. At the same time, he still worked hard to pass on the skill of hand-woven netting to his grandson, because even today, when a fishing net is torn, it still relies on human hands to repair it.
The holes in the "net" must be repaired by hand, while the holes in one's memory must be avoided by passing down knowledge through generations. Men-Chuan Yang watched his grandson weave the fishing net one stitch at a time, hoping that he would remember the important reminder that "people cannot forget their roots".
整個影片都令人很感動，一開始剖竹做網針，織漁網的部份讓人感受時代的腳步及原有的技藝，到最後一段，補網無法機械化，要人力親手補網的部份，又傳承了補網技術及客語給孫子，看到文化與語言的傳承。
