I cannot imagine the loss that Emily feels, and, if she sees this, just know that, along with Swift Current, Providence, Boston and Edmonton, Bakersfield is standing right behind you, and we'll be here to help however we can.

It was just a timing thing. That was the first game between Bruins and Oilers (two NHL teams Cave played for) since his death and both teams wanted to honor him together. So to answer your question, no, they couldn't have done this on any other day.
