Great to hear, that is why I make these videos so anyone who wishes to try tie-dye can do it and have fun and success with it .... I know many dyers who have gone from beginner to creator/seller in just a few months .... have fun!! ✌🏻🥳🙏🌈
Thank you and yes, I made a couple of these videos and I forgot to process and up load this one until just recently and hen I saw you had just put the one up on your channel... perfect timing :)
Sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Brady Jericho I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Attempted this! Mistake #1 was drawing lines to the center fold, mistake #2 I'm still trying to figure out lol. If I did it again I'd get it right I think, turning the corners with the pleats wasn't nearly as hard as I anticipated and it folded pretty well! The result is just finishing washout and is drying but despite the "mistakes" it looks terrific and will be worn this week! Appreciate your videos!
Glad it helped! and yeah sometimes those mistakes payoff if you can figure out what went wrong and then tweak it next time... glad to be of help in your process and you are welcome
A style I've been trying is taking a black shirt and bleaching it after tying. You can then go back afterwards and tie dye it any way you want! An interesting result if you just mist with bleach is that you can have different patterns front and back because the bleach doesn't soak in. If you use Clorox toilet bowl cleaner however it tends to soak in on application and get both sides. Use a thick shirt though, the cheaper thin shirts like I've gotten on Amazon get holes eaten in them by the bleach too easily. A quality shirt ought to be fine and others' I've bleached haven't gotten eaten up.
Magnificent! I just tried your design tonite. Should I wait 2 days to sit? I hope I did it right? You are truly gifted! Thankyou for your teachings! Sharing your awesome talent!
Awesome.... and the batch time is a personal choice... I love to get every bit of dye out of a batch time, so leaving for 48 hours with heat allow more dyes to bond.... un bonded dyes get washed away..... BUT, 24 hours is a good time and the heat does speed it up... I have just gotten used to the 48 hours And thank you... I love to help other have fun and success with this art, I am sure your will turn out great!! if not, then learn from it and make anohter... Practice is the key to getting better with this art... make some and evaluate them, then tweak your process and make some more... and I recommend taking pics of all of your work so you can look back and see how far you have come.... also, it helps me if you want help figuring out what went wrong, I can sometimes look at photos and give advice ✌🏻🙏💚🤗🌈🥳 and you are welcome ✌🏻
@@MrTieDye Thankyou for answering! Iam going to try 48 hours next time and with your awesome teaching the shirt came out like yours! I was so excited and my husband loved it. The colors did wash out though like you said. I waited the 24 hours. Do you have a favorite T shirt brand you like to use? I will be learning more from your videos. Thankyou!
Wow! I'm happy I have t-shirts soaking in soda ash. Let's see if i can do a double zigzag. Thank you so much for the instruction! You keep me excited to learn more!
Hey Mr Tis-Dye! Love your videos, me and the wife are loving your tutorials. Thank you brother. BTW, if you see this, do you have/ can you link the tutorial for the shirt you're wearing? 😉 that's terrific
Thank you and you are welcome 🙏 as for the tee I am wearing in this video, it is my Pot Leaf tee and I do have a video for it : ua-cam.com/video/fIopj6TZkes/v-deo.html Although I dyed the one I am wearing in this video differently than the creation of the Pot Leaf video ... I hope this helps... have fun and I wish you success!! ✌️
you probably could, but being that it is a DNA type design, I am not sure... it would need to be flipped and dyed on the other side, just shift your colors one space.... but I have not done a DNA ice dye... just ones where I can put the same colors on in the same spots.... but you can try it out and see what happens
curious about kite string vs sinew and what goes into that choice for you. i think i might have issues too with tension - too much or not enough. anyway thanks for another amazing one, can't wait to try this.
if I want white lines around my design, then I use sinew to tie it very tightly, if I just want to hold things together, then I use the kite string, for me, kite string replaced rubber bands ... here is how I use both of them .... ua-cam.com/video/nRKtNBZB5Qo/v-deo.html
thank you .... Soda ash is what activate the Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes, another name for it is Sodium Carbonate. You can find it at one of the dye houses, or you can purchase locally from a pool supply store, or in the laundry isle under the name Washing Soda, just be sure to check the label says 100% Soda Ash. Here is how I mix or make soda ash: ua-cam.com/video/vD1MSB0sAY8/v-deo.html
When you displayed it at the end, was that immediately after you had cut the string holding everything together? Everything was extremely vibrant, did it stay that way after rinsing or did the colours lighten somewhat? I'm hoping to start my tie dyeing journey soon and can't wait! The double zig zag is definitely one I want to try.
when I cut the strings and hold it up, that is right after doing a rinse in the sink, then the photo after the credits is after I have washed and dried it ... thank you and have fun!!
Wow. What dyes can you recommend for me to buy in the UK? Have brought a cheap kit for my daughter but think she will want to do heaps. Also how long to the dyes last once mixed?
I do not have a link for dyes in the UK yet, but I am trying to expand this list as I hear from other dyers and where they buy from, but here are some close to you : And here is a link to a place in Germany another dyer sent to me : www.ateliertisch.de/ Another couple links for Germany www.patchwork-pro.de/ or www.patchworkshop.de Greatings form Denmark Mr. Tiedye. I would love to bye my dyes from Dharma or Prochem, but the transport to Denmark is so expensive. So I bye my dyes from Mr. Paneka at patchworkshop.de who is located in Germany or from a shop here in Denmark called Spektrum, owned by Kirsten Lundbergh, she has a website : spektrumtextil.dk, but you can only bye pr mailorder or over the phone. These are Procion MX dyes. I have heard a lot of dyers find their dyes on Amazon or eBay Etsy - UK site as am in the UK I have my dyes around at room temp for 2-3 weeks after they are mixed before the colors start to get weak ..... the average room temp here in Oregon is 65-75F ...... I put a piece of duct tape on my bottles so I can write the date I mix them and then at the 2-3 week mark, I will add another scoop of dye and blend again... then I try to make sure I use them up before the 2-3 week mark again. but they will still work after this point, the colors just are not as bright as when they are fresher. One more thing, the dyes will last much longer if you have a spare fridge to store them in
I used Fuchsia, Deep Orange, Lemon Yellow, Emerald Green, Turquoise and Plum for the rainbow, and then I put down Cobalt on the outer edges and cover it with black ... and no, these dyes are not thickened, just mixed with tap water. Thank you and yes i do have a few videos .... the design itself is a RonStar, but it was made on an already tie-dyed tee... I call that an over dye ... so here is a list for the RonStar and the last video in the list is the over dye ..... ua-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2Bzuorv09YjjGu4BowyuPQcrAT.html
Hi Mr. TieDye!, I've been binging your content for the past week and I'm SO EXCITED to try out Tiedye with my partner this weekend. I notice that at the end of your videos, it says "no animals were harmed in the making of this video" and I was wondering; is sinew an animal product? I thought it was but I could be wrong but if so do you know of an alternative that works just as well but is vegan?
Awesome, I am glad you found my channel and my sense of humor .... BUT, you are correct, Sinew is an animal product BUT... what I use is actually Artificial Sinew ... it is waxed string made from polyester and is much cheaper than actual sinew (I use a lot of it when tying a mandala or other design that I want an outline on) ... here is where I buy mine from, but there are many places to buy it : www.dixiegunworks.com/index/page/product/product_id/3340/category/571/category_chain/557,560,571/product_name/MI0310+Artificial+Sinew+-+70+lb.+8oz.+Spool+-+300+Yards and just in case you did not see it, here is my Beginners Playlist which has a lot of helpful videos for the whole process of tie-dye, including a couple videos of how I use the Sinew and Kite string for tying : ua-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html

Theres an entire character in that bottom diamond! Eyes, nose, mouth, arms, hands, body, and even feet! crazy!

Could you ice dye this type of fold design? I assume you would have to flip the shirt over the apply the colors on the other side like you did.

Wow this is killer! Do you think I could leave the outer parts of the shirt white or would the colors run?
I hope I can master this.
I am sure you can, it just takes practice and patience
Do you used Chinese Red.
I have tried in years ago, but I prefer Fire Red from Dharma as it does not bleed on the edges and is a nice color for my flag tees when I make them
I see that you are using kite string but would rubber bands work instead because i don't really want the white lines that come with using sinew
yes rubber bands will work as well ... I use kite string because it is my preference, but I encourage everyone to find what works best for them ✌🏻
When you displayed it at the end, was that immediately after you had cut the string holding everything together? Everything was extremely vibrant, did it stay that way after rinsing or did the colours lighten somewhat? I'm hoping to start my tie dyeing journey soon and can't wait!
