Nice to hear about some of these brands although they are hardly affordable. I believe most people would consider $500 and below as affordable or even under $1000, but at over $3000 to $5000, that’s not really an affordable price range for most.
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate your perspective on what affordable means. Many of the brands here are available under $1000 and a few of the others are affordable on the used/grey market Thanks for the comment!
@ Tell me you weren’t paying attention to the market for Rolex subs over the last 5 years. Your outlook is common among poor people in every era. In the 80s the cheapest car you could drive was a Mercedes s-class. And so on…
that was incredible. what a beautiful watch and what great work you did on it!I love AMZWATCH watch!! Dream watch! Everytime I wear it, makes me feel amazing!
Slight correction; the name was Daniel jeanrichard, and Daniel was dropped later. Their JR1000 in-house movement was expressed as a gmt, chronograph and regulator. Fantastic watches and I really wish they were still around.
I have 2 of them that I will never sell. An all black DLC coated 1681 model and a version of the dive watch that is only 12mm thick but rated to 300m …. Both with the in house GP based JR1000 movement. These are $6k quality watches that you can get cheap these days. Not great from me since I bought them years ago discounted but still expensive. Still high quality and I don’t expect to sell them.
@ Right there with you! I have 4, only one of which has the JR1000. Another has a retrograde seconds👌, one has a modular chronograph over ETA, and the Terrascope with insane finishing and electric blue dial.
Seiko does have a lower-end brand using their movements to have an appeal to a wider audience who aren’t that ready to buy an actual Seiko watch - it’s Alba. They’ve been around since 1979 and primarily cater to the Asian and Middle Eastern markets where Seiko was sold at a higher price in said regions. They also feature a somewhat different case designs to attract younger audiences not usually seen on Seiko watches.
My first mechanical watch was a JeanRichard Highlands field watch I bought as a Mormon missionary in Naples, Italy in 2001. A shop was clearing them out, and I picked it up for 100 euro. I own a couple of the vintage highlands series, and the highlands chronograph is one of the best value chronos there is.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the AMZWATCH, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
Definitely the most interesting & informative channel in UA-cam,and I am your fan! I’ve been watching MAMACOO and buying them recently to complement my watch collection. Good video
I have a JeanRichard terrascope, I picked up on the grey market. When Ashford was blowing on JeanRichard and Eterna for $500ish. The JR is very well finished, and for $500 was an amazing buy
I previously owned a Tudor North Flag watch, and while I enjoyed its design, I found that its movement was not as reliable as my Omega Seamaster chronometer. After approximately five years of use, the stem of the watch became stiff, although it was still functional. As a result, I decided to sell the watch.
Hello and thanks for this video. Could you please tell me what's the name of the brand between Delft's part and the part of the video about Swatch's collabs?
Using a 'child' brand can make a lot of sense to test the waters with different ideas prior to a full blown project. Using off the shelf movement and new case and dial designs and configurations is a great way to get that feel of the market even if the child brand only makes limited numbers. Fashion moves on but the watch fashion moves a lot slower.
Seiko has a bunch of budget brands like Loris, Alba, Wired and Pulsar. They have others (like Ingenu and Riki) but its a bit hard to tell if they're separate brands or just series made by one of the other brands.
I do like that Grøne. I don't mind if anyone else sees my watch and thinks "oh, that's a poor man's ". _I'm_ the one who needs to be impressed, and I've got a certain price range in mind, so I look at my options... Furlan Marri is another interesting name in this price range -- horology/$ wise.
Very informative video. I didn't knew about CF Bucherer and Gronefeld. Actually, Raymond Weil had one such sub-brand. If I remember correctly, they named it based on a address of street.
Great stuff! Not sure what mainstream masses can afford a two grand watch, so I'd not say most of these are in easy reach, which is why they keep strong cache, enough to rival or exceed their much pricier high end counterparts (which are so outlandish in cost that only the ultra rich can afford). I think only snobs could look down on these slightly less costly treasures. In the case of Rolex and Tudor, I think Tudor is preferable, and can seem very humanly high end, rather than just out of touch flaunting (or trying to flaunt) wealth. The M.A.D.S. 1 is a stunner, and used ones, at five grand USD, would be impractical but very fun to own. Excellent list!
Depends on the case (situation). Some brands do it well (like MAD which would be great piece on it’s own), others shouldn’t do it at all. Seiko and Grand Seiko are example of “in the middle”, because of the huge confusion about movements and how they are regulated (some Seikos have same movements as GS but manual often mentions same accuracy and with solid case backs it’s impossible to see finishing).
This is a great breakdown you clearly put a lot of research into. Unfortunately, you felt the need to use that information (and some beautiful pictures) to add more watches to both my attainable grail list as well as my never gunna happen variant. Thanks, I guess?

Great video! Just a note though I wouldn’t necessarily call the movement. Some of these brands “pedestrian”. I think just saying mass-produced would be suffice.
I have collected watches for 40 years and have very high end and lower priced watches. I buy what I like and price and name have never went into my decision. I have been fortunate to be in that position. If you are not, there are so many great watches out there that you should have to compromise on your decision.
Wow… other than Tudor / Rolex and Swatch / Omega / Blancpain, and Seiko, I literally have NEVER heard of ANY of these watch brands which tells me I have a lot to learn and don’t have the money to even consider the “cheap” versions of the more expensive brands.
Funnily enough, AMZWATCH's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. This was a highly informative video. I was unaware of most of these brands. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Appreciate that! Thanks for the comment!
@watchchris I appreciate the content you've been doing on lesser known luxury brands. This is really something missing in the watch content space
It's crazy we live in a world where $5000 is considered cheap 🤯
For watches yes
If you can wear it for 10 years and sell it for $5k, it’s the cheapest watch you can own.
You really don’t understand anything going on here, do you 🤦♂️
@@BillLaBrie You're not gonna sell a 10 year old beat up watch for what you paid for it 😂
