You’ve inspired me so much in how I view my own closet. I started doing the quarantine method with clothes and I love it. (I call it a “shopping box” where when I feel like shopping during seasonal changes I can go in my box) Watching your channel has changed a lot of my shopping habits and made me realize a lot of the unhealthy overconsumption views that my mom passed down to me. My boyfriend now says to me “what would your UA-cam girl say about this” every time I want to make questionable decisions LOL

omg I love this so much 💕 I like your name the shopping box, that's so much more fun than a quarantine bin. I think I may use this myself. It's also a more fun way to think about your stuff and encouraging you to shop your clothes so to speak. I'm truly delighted to hear that I've had such a positive influence

The quarantine thing is great ! I konmari’d my wardrobe 6 months ago and never bothered to bring the clothes to a reseller so it was still in a bag in my coat closet and in the past two weeks I just fished out 6 items, that I have worn since. 👍

Something I do is contact either rehab facilities for women reentering society in need of clothes and high schools. Some schools will keep little closets for students who are either out of code or under the poverty line or have accidents who need something. Our school did that and kept a little thrift section in our student store.

There are also some companies who will take old clothing to reuse the textile.

i feel the same about decluttering. i always sell my items, to make sure they go to someone and don't get thrown out. i also personally don't want resellers profiting from my items, which is another reason why i don't give my stuff to thrift stores.

The sweater with the yarn spot that looks like a stain - have you looked into visible mending? Like a tiny heart or something cute embroidered over the spot would make it look personalized and very cool!

I'd love to hear how you balance your declutters and new acquisitions. I feel like my style is constantly changing, or I'll learn more about what I actually do and don't like, and then I feel bad about decluttering things that really aren't that bad just to purchase something else to put in its place.

I loved seeing your process on how you manage and rotate your closet. And am so impressed with your conscientious decluttering, especially the time out box - i often wear something on repeat then stop for a while, but come back to it. I watched a video the other other day about identifying clothes that bully you (for either fit, sunk cost, making you feel less than) when you open your closet and see them - and identifying them being a great start to gaining control over your wardrobe and I really liked that idea. I could see a few bully clothes in your reviews of some items. It was great to solidify the concept for me.

I just found your channel and am enjoying it so far. One lesson I learned is from watching Dawn from the minimal mom is if it’s not a clear yes then it’s a no. That is one thing I use when decluttering and simplifying my clothes. ❤

I’m a thrifter I do it for the majority of the wardrobes within my household and extended family. As a thrifter I see why some items should never been donated in first place. Stains, dingy, dirty, holes, or cheaper new (falls below baseline sale prices. I really appreciate when people donate rather than toss out if item is in good condition. Agreed if I can hand it to a person I’d rather.
Quarantine bin, is how I live to, size fluctuations low budget often easier to hold on to the higher quality items than find them or similar used in future at my budget.

  • @colettegjuka9604
    @colettegjuka9604 Місяць тому +3

I have worked in a thrift shop and can give some insight.
A lot of thrift shop waste is from people donating items that should be thrown out for condition problems. Items that have tears, stains, are almost worn through, buttons missing or zippers that are broken, and items that should have been washed first.
So my first advice for people who want to reduce waste is to make sure the items are clean and in good condition before donating.
If you want to increase the chances of the item selling, you can do that in a few ways.
I'd pick a smaller local shop that doesn't get as many donations. Big chain stores get more items and rotate out things that didn't sell more often.
Don't donate very seasonal items out of their season. Winter coats don't sell as well in July. Unless you live in a warm climate, shorts don't sell well in winter. Most stores don't have a lot of storage and will put them out when they get them, and they might not sell.
    Hope that helps some.

Your rules for shopping have helped me a lot so far, at this point I just hear a second voice in my head asking me if I really need this item I'm having my eyes on and most of the time it's a no 😂 Also another idea for upcoming de-influencing videos: advent calendars. I'm thinking mainly about these in the beauty/make up category. I've never bought one but they seem quite excessive to me. Would love for you to look deeper into the advent calendar "universe" 😂❤

A couple of thoughts on getting rid of unwanted clothing. I joined a buy nothing group on Facebook where I give things away to my neighbors. Any clothing that isn't in that good of shape anymore, that I don't want to repair, I make into shopping bags. I often give these away too.

here is my method of figuring out whether i want to keep something or not: i count all the items with a similar function. so, a fitted t-shirt for example. if i already have 15 of those, and i prefer probably 5 out of them as favorites, there is probably no chance of me wearing that 15th t-shirt ever. it is just math. i might wear it a single time when the season allows for it - but is that really worth keeping?
so i regularly have to check myself and consider the fact that realistically, i just cycle thru my favorite pieces and some clothes - altho stylish & in good condition - will never get worn based on the number of days we have in a season.
obviously, it is also good to consider for what occasions i can wear a piece - work (most days of the week), out with my dog (daily), ... or is the shirt just better off evolving into a cleaning towel?
great video, kind of a cozy vibe - subscribed.

I am currently living in a country with all year summer, so I basically hide half my items for a month or so and hang absolutely everything in my closet except underwear, swimwear and workout clothes. I only have about 40 hangers in there so I hang the remaining items so I literally can see every item, and doing this has made me wear so many clothes that I like but I forget I have. Every month or so, I do a switch, and then I have all these "brand new" clothes I haven't worn in a while.

    1. I think you're overthinking it. If something is making you stressed/miserable it's OK to remove it from your life. You don't need to torture yourself over it.
    2. Perhaps because you have a tough time getting rid of things, you wave wayyy more clothes than I expected for the content of your channel! I'd be curious to know how much of each type of item you have (tops, bottoms, etc)
    3. Idk if you did no makeup or low-make up but it looks good. :)

This kind of thing makes me happy I live someplace with pretty consistent weather. I’m a jeans and T-shirt person and the only difference is for winter I have a couple of long sleeve T-shirts and I add a hoodie or a rain jacket. That’s pretty much it. also I don’t really care about clothes. I don’t know why they don’t interest me. They never have. It’s not just because I’m overweight because when I was not overweight, I still had no interest in clothes. They were just easier to buy.

A clothing swap is when a group of people get together and each person brings items to swap. I've done some with friends and have gone to organized swaps. Sometimes you can take whatever you like other times it's a ticketing system where 1 brought item = 1 ticket to buy something.
