I've played a lot of galaxies over the years, however I think I've finally found my match; Welcome to the Line, a galaxy type that REALLY gets on your nerves real quick. The sheer amount of displeasure I got from playing this is horrible.

The worst is that something like this is, while highly improbable, not entirely impossible. This year we discovered a “Star trail” following a ejected a supermassive black hole that is 200.000 light years long!

    • @Loregamorl
      @Loregamorl Рік тому +59

I think I heard about that too. Either that or I heard a different theory that it was a gamma ray burst? Since a supermassive blackhole might leave a lot more behind, or it was actually just a flat galaxy that was lined up well. Or again, a gamma ray burst could do the same thing I think (destabilize interstellar clouds over long distances causing star formation).

This reminds me of something you'd see in an (imagined) Star Trek Voyager episode, where Voyager runs into a transdimensional rift, ends up in 1-dimensional space, where the Borg are trying to assimilate the Whale Probe Species from Star Trek 4 there, but can't wrap their Collective heads around 1-dimensional space since all their ships are shaped like 3-dimensional objects. The Whale Probe Species initiates a Halo ring-like "tidal wave" in their galaxy, meant to flush out all the Borg to the tune of Tool's "Aenima". This of course fails, when Janeway violates the Prime Directive, and makes a deal with the Borg to harpoon all the Whale Probe species if the Borg will send her back to our regular-dimensional space, marginally closer to Earth.

In the latest patch I've stopped building corvettes.
They just die too quickly and dont have the tactical flexibility of destroyers.
They charge unto melee regardless of settings and get killed giving away war score.
And battleships are only useful against battleships and cruisers. So i usually go for carrier/spinal battleships to bring hurt to cruisers and battleships and get the fighter count up to shred corvettes if the engagement lingers.
Thus I build Destroyers to either Brawl or Outrange the opponent depending on my technology and their own with Missile spam or disruptors, and my Crusiers get split three ways.
    Long range, Brawling, or torpedoes.
Torpedo Cruisers are really nice around battleships, titans and Starbases but do more poorly against all other ship classes. So if facing the Kahn or Fallen empires they are invaluable, but the AI tends to prefer a light ship fleet, so Brawlers beat most light craft, while using Artillery AI to encourage disengagement and keeping close to the Missile spam cruisers who deal the alpha strike and bulk of the damage.
Because missile spam eats destroyers, cruisers, battleships and corvettes alike. The Ai really tenss to ignore those Point Defence.
Heck my fleet usually adds a few point defence mounts on my missile destroyers to lower my damage!

Piece of cake, now that I know the ultimate fleet design. Nothing but Corvettes. All missile weapons, Regenerative Hulls, and Picket ship computers. Nothing larger except a Juggernaut should be built for your fleets, once this is available and built, it should become the core of your main attack force.
This yields more military power than you'll ever get from fleets of mixed ships. Missiles have best range, so full attack power can be maintained at too far for everything else.

How did you get it to work without crashing? I can download it on the latest version, but it continuously crashes. I know it has nothing to do with the ai empires because I haven't even met any yet and even if I had I only put 25 instead of your 100. The strangest thing is I can play a pretty solid amount of time before it breaks. I tried twice, one where I made it 12 years and one where I made it 32. I checked out the error logs in the game files and it said it had something to do with the version, but you had the council in your game so it can clearly run on a newer version.
I have never had trouble running the game before so I know it has nothing to do with my computer, but I can't think of any reason as to why it would break decades into the game and not on the first attempt at an autosave. Is there a way to fix this, or can I just never play The Line?

Hey Aspec, can you do a post or something on how useless the various leaders have become? There's literally no point to Generals, and Governors have been neutered to the point that they've actually become headaches to manage if you want anything useful from them. Your input would be most appreciated, and maybe with some poking and prodding, Paradox might include some actual mechanic upgrades while they're rethinking the leader displays in the new update.

Fascinating watch! Out of curiosity, what difficulty settings do you tend to use? I find my games get quite impossible (it might be that I’m not that great but I feel like I know what I’m doing 😂) on Commodore or higher as AI on the other side of the galaxy just get so unbelievably powerful that I can’t seem to match them! Thinking maybe the best one to go for is the setting where they don’t get bonuses?

With a galaxy like this, you really need to perpetually move your ship production closer to the front lines. What you end up with is a situation where it takes your ships way too long to reach your fleets and by the time they arrive they're outdated and outclassed.

As a Chemist, I can confirm that Diamminetetrathiocynatochromure, is an absolutely not an actual chemical. Chromium is a metal and must be in an oxidation state to form a complex with the rest of that meaning the proper name should be. Chromium Diamminetetrathiocyanide. It has 2 ammine groups(-NH2), 4 Thiol groups(-SH), and a Cyanide group(-CN). This chemical is entirely non-nonsensical as there are no other carbons to actually attach all these functional groups together, unless somehow all of these compounds each individually formed a complex with Chromium . . . which is also impossible as that would require an oxidation state of +7, which Chromium can only form up to a +6 oxidation state, and it more likely to just steal the electrons of these other compounds in that state.

So... i remember my first game of sillaris... I went with the origin that starts with a defunct gateway in their home system. And i made use of that technology around mid to end game of that game. Now... every time I play I and I get to around 50 or 60 years in I think to myself "this would be less painful with gateways..." and I remmeber hearing that the origin that I started with was F tier as far as orgins goes... maybe thats true but it has colored every game Ive played since.

I've already stopped buying DLCs with the newest one. Stellaris won't get better. It'll just bloat. Paradox's marketing strategy ensures this.

    • @eyeball6793

The game has bloat, bugs, and an outdated engine. Its fun but HOLY. Def needs to be a stellaris 2 eventually that takes and refines the base features of the game while removing bloat and bugs, until of course they start adding new updates and dlc yet again. such is the cycle. I also wonder if any features from that one startrek not-stellaris game would be incorporated into a sequel.
