This is the first show that Sutton Foster has played the leading Lady that I have ever missed because I suffered an injury that has restricted my ability to travel. She is one of the best Broadway ladies of the last 25 years.
1. She’s to old for this role,Marian is young not 47 2. She doesn’t have the right kind of voice for the role and they never should’ve hired her,she ruined my white night
@@catherinesusann5182Aha, well, art has imitated reality. Seems they are now an item and secretly have been for a few years...as they dumped both of their real life spouses.
Her vocals are beautiful. So pure and harmonious, brings peace and warmth to my heart. Everytime I hear this piece I don't know why I have a tear in my eye. They make a handsome couple. lol
Comparisons are ODIOUS. Ignore the nitpicky pedantry in the comments. Sutton is wonderful. She imbues every single word of every single lyric with genuine emotion, feeling, and meaning. And a delicate touch. Laying the stress at exactly the right place, exactly the right tone. Breathing at exactly the right spot. She alone makes me feel like I'm hearing a song I know all too well for the very first time and she sings it like she is feeling those words for the very first time. That's a true talent.
Sutton is a great actress. I saw her in her very first preview on Broadway in Millie. But no one compares to Rebecca Luker in this role and it's almost unfair to compare them. Luker was built for this role and, like Sutton in Millie, I also saw Luker in previews and in performance. I love, love, love Sutton, but sorry, no one compares to Luker. Also, tap doesn't belong in this show, it's just bizarre that they added it.
I was stoked to have found this and other recorded clips from their shows! What I'm wondering is why they never sing together (duet)? In other versions of this musical Harold and Marian sing the last part of the song together, but in this reprised version they don't. Anyone know why that is? Just curious.
00:56 very confused by how she says “roses” at 1:05, sounds like she added an extra syllable? it’s not like that on the cast album so maybe I’m just hearing things lol anyone else hear what I’m hearing here?
Was this recorded 12/30? I was at that show. By any chance did you capture when Hugh and Sutton were laughing? I loved that part. That was so genuine and real. This has become one of my all time fave shows.
Am a great fan of Ms. Foster but I agree with many others that this is not the role for her. This role..and the voice that has to fill it, is a true soprano, as many who've done it in the past. I was hoping that they would have given it to Sierra Boggess, but her name does not play on Broadway as it does in London....yet. Laura Osnes is another who could've. Not going to begin about the hight disparity between High and Sutton and that I don't think that he was great, either, as a choice for Harold Hill. Oh well, next revival.
Just way too much vibrato, to the point of being annoying and distracting from a sweet, beautiful song. Shirley Jones’ tops this, but Beatles’ version may just be the best of all.
Both Foster and Jackman are wonderful; two of the finest Theatre performers we have. But as a Theatre professional myself I must say that this is an illegal video. Your camera should never have been allowed in the theatre, and the performers and the show a great disservice by distributing this video.
Im aware that is illegal, and I posted these videos just after the show ended. Mostly for the people who couldn’t see the show. I would have loved to see a show that was playing in 2004, I was 1 year old at the time ahaha, and tbh I’m glad someone recorded it illegally and shared it on UA-cam, that’s the only thing that made me see that show and I’m grateful for it, illegal or not. I wanna do the same thing for people who weren’t aware of this show and found out about it only after it ended, or for those who couldn’t go. 🫶
@@thecutehuey I appreciate your comment, Huey. You bring up the only validation for illegally recording live shows; being able to allow people to see incredible performances AFTER the show has closed. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to ensure that that's what is happening. As a working professional actor I have ample reason to fear that too much distribution of videos or films like these while a show is still running cut into the bottom line of all the performers and technicians and creators of the show. Too many people see a video of the show and think there's no longer a reason to go to the live show; and it closes; and I can't pay my rent.
I said that the show was over when I posted it, don’t you think I know what you said, I’m supporting hugh, I would never post videos when the show was still going. And I already wrote that in the other comments up there, try to read better next time
@@thecutehuey Sorry, Brother. I've looked everywhere and the first time you mention the show closing is in your reply to my comment. The first and only time. I'll happily read everything you write, but you've got to write it first.
I was expecting so much more from Sutton on this song. It was disappointing to hear her vocals very narrow, pop-ish, and closed sounding. I understand she’s more of a belter than a soprano but everything from her consonants to her using of phrasing did not help her cause. She’s a phenomenal actress and I’ve loved her for years, but this is by far not her best.
No, she’s not Barbara Cook because she’s not boring, but Cook was a far better singer for this role. Rebecca Luker was magnificent as was Shirley Jones in the film.

She’s a wonderful performer, but totally wrong vocally for this part. Have you heard what she did to My White Knight because she couldn’t sing it as written? Both Meredith Willson and Barbara Cook must be spinning in their graves.
They actually didn’t mean to copy what they did in the past, is just different. If u saw the show, also Ya got trouble is slower compared to the original song. Why it has to be traditional lol?

I think there’s no loss, for the actors and the production itself, the show is over. I recorded these in April, and didn’t post because I knew it was still playing.
Nothing will ever top Shirley Jone's story about singing this in the film version while pregnant. She wasn't showing much, and kept her pregnancy quiet but when she hit the high notes, her baby, kicked Robert Preston on the bridge scene. He looked shocked and asked her after what happened.
