    all demos should be like this... straight to the point, all info on screen. If you need someone to tell you the amp has EQ and volume knobs in the front and connectors in the back, you should not be playing guitar.

    I have this amp. I love this amp. It's the best sounding combo I've ever had. And I run it through a 4x12 Marshall cab. What's nice about this setup is that if you're on a smaller stage, you can just use the combo. But if you have a bigger stage with more room, this combo will easily push a 4x12 no problem.

    • @heythere6983
      @heythere6983 3 роки тому +1

      How do you run a combo through a cab like that? What ohms speakers are in the cab?

    • @no3rdseat
      @no3rdseat 3 роки тому +3

      @@heythere6983 I wish this was a proper forum so I could post pics, but on the back of the DSL40CR there are several cab output jacks. My 4x12 has 4-8ohm Celestions so I just plug a 1/4" cable from the 4x12 into the jack that says 1x8 OHM. If you have two 8 OHM 4x12's (a full stack), you would plug them into the jacks that are labeled 2x8 OHM. There are also 1x4 OHM and 2x16 OHM jacks, as well as the factory 1x16 OHM jack. But you HAVE TO unplug the factory speaker from it's jack before you plug the external cab in or you'll burn it up.

    This is a great resource to get started. I watched from my phone and I pinched the screen to zoom in. I didn't have any trouble making out the dials. This amp is very versatile. My only gripe with the amp is their doesn't seem to be one good setting that makes all 4 channels musical. Two is definitely feasible. If that's true I see why it comes with a two button f/s instead of a 6 button. I am curious whether anyone disagrees. Maybe I can learn something about how to set it up better.

    Excellent demo so many of Marshall amp demos talk to distortion but it's so good to hear the clean tone to see what you're beginning with! Classic green channel is so crisp - not as warm as i typically play on a strat but rolling off the tone a tad would def help.

      I have this amp- it can be bright if you want, but turning the master up to 10 changes everything. Also adding some Resonance and Bass plus experimenting with the "Tone Shift" button could definitely put you where you want to be.

    Thank you for this demo it’s awesome, and your playing is great I like it! Your sound is very good, thanks to you for your times ! No talk I like :) Me I was playing so long time with Fender, Vox, Peavey, Rocktron, and modeling Amp. The list is too long… They was good but when I have tried a Marshall DSL RC Series ? It was awesome, and honestly my testing amp was a DSL RC 1w or RC 5w but I don’t remember very well, don’t Blum me sorry, I was in Germany and I was so focused on the sound and I was so captived. For me it was sounded great. Ok sounded great don’t mean nothing! What I won’t to say, the sound was organic, whith a body, brillante and alive than you don’t have with the Oda amp, it was my impression. The sound was deep, brillante and very inspiring. Tomorrow I’m going to test the DSL CR 20 W, because the store where I’m going they don’t have the DSL CR 40W, causse of transistor issues and fuc..of pandémie... That why I’m here on your topic cause I planning to buy the DSL40 CR. And in this DSL CR 40 Amp you have 2 channels, every channel have 2 differents modes, than it means you have 4 channels in one Amp this is awesome. Ok we have a little problem because the EQ is not independent on each 2 channels and is shared with the both channels (oh my god, why Marshall doing this ???) for me it’s a non sens ,ok the reverb is separated but not the EQ, and why ???, clean and High gain should be work the same Mr Marshall ! ) . Ok the reverbe is not good too because is numeric and you have to push it in the max to ear it. But, you can buy your own pedal reverb if you need a great reverb if you like reverb. Tel me what Combo amp have the best ever reverb ? But with the tow master channels you can do many things and manage the EQ. Don’t take this as a bible because I have to test this tools so long time before I buy it. You have to do the same. For me any combo in this price sound like a DSL CR 40. A good musician could find an issue to fix the EQ, Dont Make a mistake for the DSL series, because the DSL 40 C (the old one don’t have 4 channels suitable) only the DSL CR 40 (2018) have it. This is my opinion, non a commercial or some thing like this. I recommande people to go to the guitar shop, testing to by they self and approving the instrument before buying and not just listening sound compressed on UA-cam and no body know how it’is recorded . I will to say some thing other, when I was playin the amp DSL, I was astonished by the gain ant the warm the am gives to me, and this inspired my playing and I never feel this in any amp. Keep rocking !!

    I will get mine next week. And I already own a DSL 1 CR. This little thing is very good sounding already. Can’t wait to try the 40 watt version ! Oh, and I could pair it with the 1 watt combo for very quiet playing and I would get a more voluminous tone out of the 12“ speaker this way.

    I bought one and put a creamback in it. Sounds "fuller". Bottom end is much tighter. The only thing negative I can say it that it still has a bit of "fizzyness" at higher gain settings. "Real" Marshalls don't seem to be fizzy but you have to have them at sperm damaging volumes to get a good sound.

      Fishing, Gaming & Guitars I just got the dsl20cr as well. After some reading I thought I'd immediately upgrade the speaker to celestion classic lead 80 and the tubes as well. An extra 250 dollars and I was actually more pleased with the stock tone. No need to upgrade anything with the CR seriously. As much as I hate the celestion 7080 speaker....it fits the amp extremely well and is a solid choice. Perhaps better than my classic lead 80! Just wanted to let u know, it's sweet as sugar just the way she is. No need for the fancy upgrades.

Its a bargain for the price big time. I love it. And its so versatile. Hey did you find the amp grew on you in a certain way? It did for me. I was so used to solid states modelling amps that it seemed to trick my ears. I got used to the speaker and amp. I think ive nailed a good eq setting to. Just only thing is need to put a bit of gain on the classic channel for a more balssy clean tone. Its the best amp ive heard through my guitars

    I think the emulated-out could have been dialed in better. Basically, treat the emulated-out as an entirely separate entity from the main amplifier - it responds to EQ changes way differently and ignores the master-volume entirely.

    All good! Thanks for posting. While the amp settings in this video are excellent ... some of them are difficult to see because of the lighting--seems to be a challenge with all reviews of this amp. In addition to the excellent clean settings in this video ... do you (or any followers) have another clean CLEAN settings suggestion for this amp you/they can share? For some of my band's material I need an excellent clean sound for MoTown, ballads, some pop. I have a Les Paul with this amp. I also use a Strat on occasion. Of course the dirtier OD & distortions are exactly what I wanted from this amp. Any and all suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. BTW ... please don't suggest I go buy a Fender, Katana, etc. Been there. They don't sound like Marshall's! Am I expecting too much out of this amp?

It's a fucking guitar and amp and these prick can't be bothered to pay the extra nickel for the parts and labour to hand wire a fucking box and a little electric guitar . greed over quality and as long as we keep looking at these companies thru our nostalgia shades and continue to except their inferior products it will never change. marshall isn't great just because it's called a marshall. they still make some good amps but they make some shit ones as well. bit it's says marshall on it and that's good enough for most

      Adam Watson you are a fucking moron. Marshall hasn't handwired their amps since the early 70s. History and blind tests have proven over and over again that PCBs sound as good or better. Reliability isn't an issue either. I own several vintage handwired pieces and they still have their maintenance issues too. Please just shut the hell up and play you're freaking guitar. If you play different genre,i suggest the dsl,the overdrive on the hot rod is not terrible and as you can hear,the clean on the marshall is ok!

    • @JoshChristiane
      @JoshChristiane 3 роки тому +2

      I'm 2 years late, but better late than never for the other people watching. They are in two completely different leagues, I bought both, played with both, and instantly sent the Fender back. The Fender was horrible, the amp buzzed really badly even at low volumes, so perhaps I got a lemon. But in terms of tone and quality it was pretty good, nice cleans, very smooth and warm, but a bit on the "dark" side so to speak. The Marshall is a lot more "lively" and active. I think it has a much better speaker in my opinion. The A Type has a weird shrill to it on certain notes that I don't like. I preferred both the clean and the distortion on the Marshall. Something about Marshall just has a special tone I love.
      In terms of build quality absolutely no contest, the Fender covering, the grill, the tolex, the stripped screws, the body shake, the back panel that never fully tightens, etc. The list goes on and on. The Marshall is built like a tank, even if I hadn't gotten a lemon the Fender reeked of poor quality craftsmanship and shoddy manufacturing. I probably will never buy another Mexican made Fender product after that POS.
      In terms of the clean tone, which is what I chase after, the Marshall is brighter, and somehow fatter on the bottom end but without being harsh, though it has more compression than the Fender.
      The Fender clean tone is a bit more dynamic despite being much less bright, so no compression issues there, and with the bright switch engaged it's not quite as dark, a little better. But it still lacks clarity, if you want the best pure clean tone get the JC40 or JC120 IMO.
      So overall for my test the Marshall was better in every category with no competition whatsoever. The Fender just sounded like your average old tube amp, kind of warm and flat. The Marshall is alive and begs to be played loud to allow it to sing its beautiful British voice.

      @@JoshChristiane Hey nice Video man_greetings from Austria. One Question: I bought the Dsl40cr same as yours, but there is a lot of fizz and that only goes away when i crank the amp. But i want to play in my apartment with a good distortion quiet without that fizzyness. WOUld it help to change the Vtype speaker to an Eminence texas heat or creamback like u have done it? Appreciate very much if you or someone knows...

    • @JoshChristiane
      @JoshChristiane 3 роки тому +1

      @@musik4life24 That will depend on what the fizz is coming from. Is it coming from the preamp, the power amp stage, or the speaker? You'll have to isolate that issue first. My guess is that it's coming from the preamp, in which case you'll have to keep messing with settings to get the right sound if possible. Another option is to just go all clean, super clean, and buy a distortion pedal if you're unhappy with the distortion built into the Marshall. Marshall's distortion preamp at low volumes really doesn't sound that good. So my advice is to pump the preamp stage really hot, and bring the master volume down (the right volume knobs). If you're still unhappy with the distortion then definitely recommend a distortion pedal, buy yourself an R2 or some nice pedal like that and you'll get a sweet tone.
      If I'm wrong and it's actually coming from the speaker then I'd advise you put in a super clean speaker with great headroom, in your case I'd put in a Celestion Lead 80 as that speaker is ultra clean with massive headroom, sounds great at low volumes especially. The creamback would be the next best bet, but I wouldn't put the Eminence in. You want something ultra clean and clear at low volumes, some speakers are muddy at low volumes and only become clear at higher volumes, kind of a weird effect.

      Christian Nueva easiest answer ever. Go for the dsl40c, both of them are well known marshall users and you will get their tone with a marshall better than a fender (To get a slash sound on the dsl i would reccomend going to lead 1 with the gain at 10oclock, bass at 4.5 mids at 6.5 and treble at 6 and some reverb, and if you can afford one, a boost pedal like a seymour duncan pickup booster or a ts9 copy. Slash is my favourite guitarist as well =D )

      I was going through the same thoughts between Fender and Marshall. I thought I was originally leaning towards the Fender amps, but after hearing the higher gain sounds of the Marshall and how terrible the Hot Rod Deluxe sounded, I was sold on the Marshall. My only question now is between the DSL40cr and the 20 watt head or combo. I think for $150 more the DSL40cr makes more sense especially since I would probably want to immediately switch out the 70/80 speaker so there is the $150 difference. I think I would seriously need an attenuator for either amp anyway.

    Which one would you choose between this one and DSL100Hr ?

    • @frostycanuck1711
      @frostycanuck1711 3 роки тому +4

      They are essentially the same thing except the DSL100HR is a Head that goes on top of a Cabinet. You cannot use the DSL100HR without a cabinet. The marshall DSL40CR is a combo amp which means it has all the tones of the DSL100HR with it's own amplifier. Now you can use the DSL40CR as a head all you would have to do is unplug the Speaker from the amp and then plug in the Cabinet in either the 8ohms or 16ohms Plug in jack. You do have to find a cabinet that matches its ohms so be wary of that. The DSL100HR has more watts than the DSL40CR so it will be louder when plugged into a Cabinet but you cannot play at bedrooms levels or even close to that unlike the DSL40CR which can be played at bedroom levels and small to medium sized gigs. Hope this helped!

Maybe you can answer how YOU get the un muddy sound he seems to get. Anyway his words "Watch this video..at around 4:10, he ups the gain on red channel, eventually going all the way to 3'O-clock.
    There is NO WAY IN HELL this amp will run like this in stock condition!!! I played through 3 different DSL40C's at Guitar Sinner and ALL of them behave just like mine. Don O's DSL40C was tested (graciously by him on my behalf) and his responds in the same fashion - gain past 12'O-clock is total muddiness."

      nighttrain022 If you’re playing with very high output pickups that may happen...modern amps have so much gain on tap you don’t need them anymore. Even a JB is too much. With my DSL or 5150 I think that the 59 or pearly gates sounds the best. If you want to go the high output route though emg’s will sound very open and articulate

    I don't know if to go with the 20W or 40W. I live in an apartment with 3 other roommates and we're all college students. Is the 40W ridiculously loud or can it be brought down to a low volume without interfering with tone too much?
