Nice overview of ArtRage Vitae Daniel. I also really enjoyed watching you work. I've been using ArtRage for a number of years now and love it. I've had the latest version for a month or so and am really enjoying it. I agree that there has been a lot of work "under the hood" and it has made everything smoother. It's a real joy to work with. By the way you can flip horizontal or vertical without a script. It's simply a keyboard shortcut - H or V
Thank you for the video. It does a better job of underlining the value of this update. I’m still on the fence, because a lot of the touted added features are of less significance to me, but the performance update is nice. Part of the reason I chose Artrage over Rebelle was the snappiness. Clip Studio Paint is still my primary art program but Artrage is fun and different.
I always appreciate your videos. The new desktop Vitae does look great. I have to admit, after initial excitement at the iOS version, I've felt a definite letdown. So much has not made it into the iPad version. It's too bad, since my iPad is now my primary digital art method. I would've been willing to pay more than iOS Vitae cost me for more parity. Oh well, can't have everything! It's not all bad, some of these limitations (not just Vitae, but other art app shortcomings) are getting me to spend more time with traditional artwork.
I see what you mean. The mobile version still needs better transform options, the custom brush tool, and I think... a visual overhaul. Maybe a vitae pro will come out eventually!
Thank you for showing where the tile settings are! I could not figure out where. I think this was a good update and I'm hoping to see some of the more technical tools like the selection wand and layers get some updates.
Artrage Vitae Update... I've found Vitae to be horrible for multiple monitor use, especially if your primary monitor isn't your Wacom &/or has a different monitors have resolutions. For example: I have 3 monitors. 2 are 4k including my Wacom Cintiq. The other is 2k. Sometimes I do switch the primary monitor. Yes there is a reason why I do as each monitor has a unique function. Apps in general do not like multiple monitors (or at least the switching primary). However, Artrage Vitae seems to hate it. Among other reasons... Vitae is a waste of $$$, particularly if you own Artrage 6. Those who say it is great for updates, are lazy. Updating is easy. Updates can also cause issues. With apps you're forced to update. If it's a bad update you're stuck until a fix. Lastly, it's not like Artrage rolls out updates all to much to begin with! Food for thought but, an important one. Most people who use a Wacom have/use an additional monitor. Software is always greater than apps. The only time a app is perhaps more beneficial is if you have a tablet, such as a Surface for example.
Hello!! I was wondering as a digital artist, would it be better to up the PPI, Pixel per Inch when drawing on a much larger canvas, so that the digital art isn't pixelated? Example: 1500 X 1500 with a 600PPI? I am still trying to get use to ArtRage Vitae, but so far it's a really good art program!
@@urfriend1840 it is a great application! I always set the canvas to inches. And work at something like 10 x 10 inches... But then make sure to work at 300 ppi on the 10 x 10 inch canvas. That makes the pixel dimensions 3000 x 3000
I can see on their forum, on reddit, people are confused about that version to know the differences with V6. The company doesn't even mention the comparison on their website. So Artrage Vitae desktop is an improved Artrage 6 ?... People are not happy about the obligation to use Windows Store to get it. I have to think what version to get , there is a discount 50% discount for Artrage Vitae desktop version, $40 (+20% tva of course) till feb 15.
here an email by them : " You can think of ArtRage Vitae as ‘ArtRage 7’ It’s the next edition of ArtRage after ArtRage 6. So it has all the ArtRage 6 features as well as additional features and enhancements."
The biggest issue I have with ArtRage vs its competitors is the absolute crap that is the state of support and basic tutorials from the publisher. They have NO youtube page, the website is pathetic in the extreme if you are looking for features and tutorials. Overall, a decent program hampered by what I feel is a throw a new version out and pay a few content creators to talk it up....and nothing more every year or two. I don't think they even release manuals for the software anymore...just a few pages of addendums, and you have to piece it together from the last 3 versions and addendums. I think the last one with a full manual pdf was 7-10 years ago.
I think those are all incredibly fair criticisms. It seems to me like they're a small team who's slowly adjusting to the current marketplace realities. Just seeing the time it took them to get onto the Microsoft and Apple stores is evidence of that... And that's actually part of the reason I'm so in favor of this update. It's not a real full number update. It works as a pretty important engine and platform update... Setting the stage for some really cool innovations to its brush engine. Beyond that, the support and help has always lagged a bit. I've noticed some of those gaps as well. I sent a proposal to one of their team members regarding a tutorial based manual almost like an ebook for how to use the software. I hope they'll take me up on it because I have it half written already!
I am VERY interested in understanding the new scripts feature. Could you do a video on how to set up the "flip canvas" one? I've always wanted to have a "permanent" flip to work on a piece instead of the the quick flip that is available. A deep dive into the power of scripts would be really cool.
Hi, I downloaded the xp pen that you have, but not working with Mac - ArtRage isn't recognizing the pen in order to draw in the software. Any suggestions?
Can you tap with a brush with a different pressure and it always makes a different texture like different bending brush hairs? Need that for painting foliage somehow like Bob Ross taps trees, bushes and grass.
That's the best question you could ask! And I should have covered it more clearly in the review. Thank you for the good question. If you consult the feature list. The difference is, bigger canvases, bigger brushes, better performance, faster loading, faster saving, better brush performance, new app store availability, easier updates, seamless texture mode with tiled canvases, high res monitor compatibility, cooperative painting, and a host of other performance and engineering related upgrades. I would deem this as rage 6.5 more than a full outrage 7.0. but it acts like our age 7.0 in the sense that it's a significant update to the brush engine and the software performance. The most important part of this update is that it sets the stage for the development of new tools new tool assets and more variety and brushes for future updates. For a long time, our age was surviving just on its amazing oil painting engine. But it's needed to upgrade its performance and sort of the background of what's going on for a long time. They bundled all of those changes along with it's availability in the major desktop app stores to make for a better user experience for purchasing updating saving etc. If you have heart rate six, you're not missing anything in terms of brushes or major features. But you are missing out on some of the bigger canvases bigger brushes better performance and some quality of life issues with updating and saving. I understand that both are age 6 and Rh 7 will coexist for a little while. Especially for those people who can't update through the Windows store due to the lack of availability of the Windows store on older generations of windows. Sorry if there are any syntax errors. This was all done voice to text!
Daniel what are some of the day to day canvas sizes you use. I find myself trying several but I have not printed any of them yet i really dont know acceptable sizings
I use at least 10 x 10 inches at 300 dpi for my paintings. 15 x 15 for more size options later. I feel confident I can go bridge without as much lag on this new update
You have gotten me to stop using Rebelle (at least for a while). I have a couple of questions about the Brush Settings and the Brush Designer. In Brush Settings how do I add things like "Aspect" and "Rotation?" I noticed on your custom brushes that these settings sliders were not there. I use a Wacom Art stylus that allows for brush rotation (which I cannot live without when I paint) and I know that you don't use this. But is there a way to add these to the Brush Settings panel? And the little icon that appears when you have "Aspect" control you can see the outline of the circle or ellipse that represents the brush shape. When I use the knife tool, even though it is more like a flat brush, it is represented by a circle outline so it is hard to tell the actual angle of the brush before the stylus hits the canvas. Would be nice to see a line in there that shows the angle. Thanks, Dan, I really would like to see a totally in-depth tutorial on all the nuances of the Brush Settings and the Brush Designer. I have watched all of your tutorials and am a Patreon supporter.
Thank you and thank you for the support!!! I will do my best to make a video that answers all of these questions. I am so happy to see that Artrage is working for you! For oil painting it is the best!
Thanks for the reply. Look forward to any tutorials you come up with. I noticed that all custom brushes, in the brush designer, do not have aspect. I might be missing something but can you do a small one on just setting a new preset from, let's say, an existing oil brush using the Brush Designer?
