Heirloom Roses is Awesome! everything is grown on their own roots and NOT on grafted rootstock so the roses are healthy and very hearty! I have the Zephirine Drouhin Climbing rose and the first year the bare root rose I planted put out multiple 6-8 ft canes. The 2nd year the trellis beside the pergola was covered in the most delightful old rose fragrance. the third year the canes had climbed over the top of the patio pergola and was starting to cover the top. 11 years later and the climber is still going strong! I have several varieties from Heirloom Roses and all have performed masterfully!

Wow, I'm so excited by all these roses. I just wanted to clarify ; Louise Odier is a French old rose by Margottin in 1851. It belongs to the category of Bourbon roses. The fisrt Bourbon rose was found on Reunion Island, where I live. Bourbon was the former name of our island. Louise Odier was brought in England in the 19th century too. David Austin just featured a lot of old roses. That's a good thing but be sure to be clear about it. That said, I can't wait for the blooms. Don't hesitate to peg the branches to tame them.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the title of o day show! Roses!! Yay. I’m going to tell you about a rose and it’s not the cabbage rose you like but through all the years of all the roses I’ve planted it’s remained my favorite.. First of all it’s hardy. I’ve literally had to yank one out of a raised bed situation where it was sorely neglected during 100+ temperatures and transplanted it and it just kept on going. The flower starts off looking like a red bud but opens up to white inside with a touch of pale yellow, and it’s a large flower. It blooms through out the season with an occasional short rest. But here’s the kicker-the fragrance!- it’s unbelievable. I will sometimes cut some to bring in but eve more often I will grab all the petals off one that is fully open and throw them in a bowl or decorative box in my art studio and that fragrance will last for weeks. I love ‘Double Delight’ rose.

My grandmothers’s name was Eglantina (spanish version). Her father was French and he named her. Their first girl born was also named Eglantina, but we called her Tina. I googled origin and it says it’s French-makes sense She would have been thrilled to know that there is rose with her name. 😊. As always, thank you for the video, the rose garden looks beautiful. Cannot wait to see it in bloom.

Aaron gets his roses! Thought they would go in the square areas by the Hartley. I have ordered from Heirloom Roses and they have been great. Always excited to see what new project there will be. Maybe those climbing roses can go on the arbors that you just put over the stone walkway. They would be beautiful to walk through towards the cut flower gardens.

For the climbing roses, how about putting them over the archway that goes over the stone pathway? Will create shade like you want and the scent would be amazing to walk through and it would follow on from the cut flower garden

The original eglantine (note different spelling) is a very old European shrub rose also called "sweet briar" that was often mentioned in English poetry; the one specific mention I recall offhand is in Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale". It has single petaled pink flowers in spring/early summer and has actually become invasive in some parts of the world including some parts of the U.S. because the English took it everywhere. I think I had one at one of the houses I used to own that I harvested from a 19th century family cemetery that I cleaned up in the 1970s because the pictures of it online look like what I had and the stated growth habit (sprawling) matches. The ending is pronounced like "tine" on a fork. The plant you planted is labeled a shrub rose and maybe the original eglantine figures in its ancestry, or the scent is similar, etc.

Just saw "Moonlight in Paris" (avail Heirloom Roses) at my local garden center yesterday and thought "Laura would love this one!" Huge swoon. Ivory pink as it matures but the center is a smokey pink apricot the glows in the sun. Keep it in mind, Laura!❤😍

Being a Pacific Northwest person, I’ve had a long love of roses and am thrilled we all will have the opportunity of watching your gardens flow with such a tremendous variety. It was exciting watching the whole A Team working together to create the new rose home. What a great addition to your creative dreams. I always appreciated that you integrated your roses in your flower beds. I always have thought that having so many roses all planted close together while beautiful, can also be difficult to control pests and diseases. I’m sure that this won’t be a problem for you as you’ve got quality stock, good airflow, and amended soil. Looking forward to seeing the progress.💕

A rose garden! Planted by color! 👏 😍 🙌 I've long been a fan of GA, and goodness, this year is going to be one of the best yet! It's so exciting for me to see how your dreams and designs are unfolding, and I can't imagine how it feels for you to experience it! Your plan for the four quadrants is 😍😍--it's already a beautiful space, and I can't wait to see how it looks in bloom this summer and in the eyes to come. Thanks for doing the spring garden tour! If you did one complete tour a month, and then did a highlights tour to capture especially beautiful things, well, my coffee breaks would be extra fantastic. Thanks for sharing your beautiful world with us!
