Great tips. I would think these would be no-brainers for assisting, but after some of the things on set, it’s always good to have these reminders for everyone. I found as long as you showed initiative, attention to detail, and willingness to learn, the right people would see that and be willing to work with you, even if you were just starting out or in the first year or so of assisting.

Glad you liked the video. I know most of this is no-brainer stuff but these little things make a big difference.

I actually slept through a 3am call time once in my assisting days, not good but it only ever happened once… if you are running late definitely call ahead, good energy is contagious

super thankful to have come across this. My question is whats the approach to contact photographers to assist them? how do you even find jobs as an assistant?

Find photographers in your area, check out their web site and see if it's the type of work you are interested in. Send them an email and ask if they use assistants and let them know you are interested in assisting. Make sure you let them know you are just starting out. You may have to be a second or third assistant till you get some experience. I would reach out to as many as you can. It might be hard at first but someone will give you a chance. Good luck!

Hey, Todd. Greetings from snowy New Brunswick, Canada. Thanks for this great video. I'm a retired stage manager and all your tips apply in theatre as well. Can you offer any thoughts on how a person would go about finding photo assistant gigs? All the best!

Hey Barry, I would reach out to pros in your area and see if you can get a meeting with them. Let them know you are interested in assisting. I would give them a little of your background as well. Most photographers that use assistants will take the time to meet with you. We are always looking for good assistants.
      Good luck,
      Todd
