Wow Kristin is lucky to have you as a friend! So many 4” pots / plants!
She’s a good friend and we love sharing gardening stuff!
Amanda you did have a lot of success with your seed planting. ❤ The elephant ears look amazing, I’m sorry about the bulbs that did not come up. Maybe putting them outside will give them a boost. Can’t wait to see you plant up all your seedlings.
Thank you so much!
I tried elephant ears a couple of years ago and it a very long time for them spout and see some life. Give yours a little bit longer and they still do something.
That’s good to know! I’ll keep them going!
I agree with Shirley. I planted 3 bulbs and one of them is much slower than the rest. It also took a long time for them to sprout. Yesterday the largest one’s roots are coming up to the top so time to pot it up today.
I'm behind on my seedlings too. So much to do, isn't it glorious!😊❤
Agree. I grow every years x20 yrs and it can take a long time. Suggestion- the one not germinated, just stick out side now in partially sunny area like your back porch.
Thanks for the nudge on more seeding fertilizing!
❤️❤️❤️
As a beginner gardener I love your videos and your approach. Thank you for sharing your successes and failures. You encourage me to just try it and see what happens, learning along the way. We are all human! ❤
You are so welcome!
Yeah, I agree with what someone else said. Unless the bulbs were bad, one of mine took over two months! But, I did dig around to make sure it was still firm because I was worried it wasn’t going to sprout.
Good to know! I’ll keep them going!
I’ll be watching that fall planning video for sure! My flower bed has improved immensely since I started watching you!
Yay! I’m so glad!
I love the back porch staging area ⚾️
Thanks!
Your own garden center to choose from!💚
Love that!
So exciting! So nice to have an update on all your seedlings. I’m sort of struggling as well with spider mites on my seed-started dahlias. I don’t know what it is but I find dahlias to be susceptible to insect pests no matter what😅 they need constant maintenance! It’s been so grey and windy recently but I’m hoping to plant my tender warm weather annuals either this weekend or the next, once it warms up a little more ☀️😊
Yes the spider mites showed up early this year!
Love this type of video so informative!
I'm so glad!
I’m enjoying your video. I bought a 4 pack of elephant ears bulbs and planted them in pots April 4th, and still not seeing growth yet, but I’ll be patient and give them more time. My first time ever trying to grow these.
Yes several people commented that it can take up to 2 months for growth to show up!
A reminder that I need to pot up my Dahlias and the seeds I winter sowed
🌷🌷🌷
Thanks for another great video. Always excited to see when you have a new one posted. FYI I also bought Costco elephant ear bulbs that grown but I had them outside.
Sorry have NOT grown
Oh good to know … looks like we can return them if needed.
Love, love, love your channel! I always learn so much with every video. I enjoy your personality so much.
I'm so glad!
Good morning. Don't we all have good intentions and then life happens or we forget and then when working on one set of seedlings we remember about the ones we forgot. It all happens. Would I be disappointed perhaps but then if I had started them from seed I would not be out of pocket by too much so. I would have to reflect and see if I had done too much or did I really want those flowers/blooms. Anyways it all happens. Enjoy the rest of your day and looking forward to seeing any updates from your garden.
🌷🌷🌷
I did several Elephant Ears from bulb as well and do have to say the Walmart ones did the best! I bought from Costco the Aloha EE and only one came up. Just gave a lot of seedlings to gardener friends because as usual I got carried away!!
I’m so glad your worked out!
I so much appreciate your advice to feed seedling! I almost gave up because of such disappointments...
Glad I could help!
I'm amateur too, but learning a lot from you. Thank you
Glad to hear it!
It brings a sense of commradery to see others' challenges with seed starting. My Fama white and blue are barely making it through but doing better now they're in the ground.
I saved seeds from my seed started dahlias last year to see if they would grow to be the same or different. Part of my problem is that I have about 20 plants and most of my dahlias from last year, left in the ground (Maryland, Zone 7) are coming back! I know, tough problem to have!!😂
Now I need to figure out where I'm going to put them. I may see if my neighbor wants some.
I bought my caladiums from Costco and only 5 of 10 have sprouted. And these are Longfield corms. Although I did have success with their bare root bleeding hearts. I guess you never know.
Sharing with neighbors is always fun! My fama scabiosas took forever!
I'm already thinking about fall planting 😊 will you continue with your seed starting series for starting fall flowers?
That's the plan!
I'll be watching you plan the fall garden and seed starting. Learning along with you!😊❤
Yay!
I think you just got bad bulbs from Costco. The other elephant ears look great. WOW! the loofahs look great :D
You might be right!
Oh no...that is such a bummer about your dahlias! The spider mites and thrips are out of control this year and so early this year, ugh. On the other note, your elephant ears look amazing!
Yeah it’s not looking good for the hot weather 😬
Great information! Love the bamboo sticks!!
Glad you like them!
Great video! I’ve been growing caladiums for years and the large green ones sprout early. The colored ones usually do not sprout until June. Your gourd plants look amazing. I may try growing those next year 😊
Thanks for the info!
🤗 lots to plant. Going to be very pretty.
I hope so!
Thank you so much...just what I needed!!!
You are so welcome!
Very helpful info. I'm new to seed starting and have mixed results.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video for sharing, 19👍❤️🌱🍀🎉
Thanks for visiting!
I had the Costco bulbs a few years ago and they didn’t get going until it was really consistently hot outside.
That’s good to know, thanks!
Wow your Zennia seedlings look amazing mine aren’t looking as great I may have to start some more love Zennias
Don’t forget to fertilize them!
This was right on time. I wasn't sure when to fertilize my seeds of even if I should. Now I see why they are not growing Thank you so much.
Will you be doing a UA-cam on key words you use when searching for items on Facebook Market place?
Yes! I’m hoping to do one during the summer when there is less gardening for me.
Clara Joyce gave me similar plants last year. I see a massive difference in my plants from Kings Mum vs Clara Joyce in the garden. 40% of my Clara Joyce didn’t make it. They are also are 2/3 smaller in the amount of growth. Blue Perrenials did pretty similar to KM. Also, KM and BP had much larger buds in the spring. I’m letting some of those plants bloom now. CJ have much smaller buds and they won’t make it in time before the heat comes. Mums are really hardy IF they get their roots established in the ground (vs pots). That’s also why size matters bc you can put them in the ground sooner. I got a few from Goose Creek Gardens which were slightly bigger than CJ, but I got them 3 weeks after KM, which is a big deal.
Year 2 is where the magic will start with them bc my one plant has grown into 6x6 plants and even a few 12x12 in the larger varieties. That helps rationalize disbudding and getting much bigger center flowers. So one plant will give me 50 large center blooms with some varieties. That’s insane.
I also cut them back last week and I’m not doing it again. I got flowers into January this year and a few died into the freeze. They bloomed much later than I would prefer. I’m going to see how this works out. I’ll also see with those that flower if I will get a second round of flowers. I’m thinking heirloom mums may be the south’s version of dahlias!
Yeah I’m a little disappointed in the quality … they did just ship one more variety that was back ordered and I received it today … they look much healthier and were wrapped in plastic this time 🤷♀️
Costco has excellent return policy. If you bring the cormers/bulbs they’ll refund you, no questions asked. I believe within 90 days. I have returned some cannas that was not looking good.
Good to know, thank you!
The bamboo sticks are a genius idea! How long do you store your seeds, or do you use them all up?
Some of them are a few years old … germination is lower but still worth starting.
Elephant ear take forever to come up. They barely sprouted end if summer last year (1st year). This year they are up and growing already!
Good to know! Thanks!
$25 - $30 is a lot of money for me too. I couldn’t believe when those Chrysanthemums arrived that they had no moisture and were totally dry. Any plant that I have ever ordered online has always had some sort of moisture added in some way, usually in a plastic type covering so it doesn’t leak out. I can’t believe that they would be sent to you like that especially as they were $5 each. I feel extremely upset for you, no care was taken at all. 😢
I’ll see how they do and if they fail, I’ll contact the company to see what they say ❤️
❤

❤❤❤❤❤❤
🌷🌷🌷
Hey Amanda, I watch you and a few other gardening channels that sometimes have spider mites, and I still don’t get how you know you have spider mites. 🧐 What is it that you see on your plants?
Thanks for pointing that out … I’ll be sure to include what they look like on the video that comes out tomorrow!
😁😁🌼.

I am to forgetful and too lazy to start seedlings. Can you help with some great ideas on direct sowing success?
My go tos for direct sowing are zinnias and sunflowers!
Where did you find that gorgeous apron?
It’s from TEMU but you can also buy similar ones on Amazon.
If those elephant ears are Longfield Gardens, if you have the pkg and receipt, the company will replace them.
Good to know, thank you!
Have you ever grown eskimo marigolds thats what i have growing right now
I have not!
I have a question, why don't you plant the zinnias and mints outside? It is a good weather outside. May be you are waiting it to be warmer?
We just had a massive rain storm that morning and it was too wet to work in my garden.
Also at the end of your video you said you will do some direct zinnia planting, did not wait till the end 😁!
Should i pinch profusion zinnas?
Yes!
What if my seedlings are turning yellow?
That’s a sign of overwatering or under fertilizing.
The shelves are empty! Jeez I’ve never seen that.
😂
I will be following along when you starting your seeds for fall in September, I’m also glad you let us know your in zone 8 many people don’t , you do such a great job and details to be successful!!
my seedlings are struggling as they are in the shade. no other option
They need at least 8-10 hours of sun per day.

🌷🌷🌷
Rabbits came and ate my seedling 😢😢😢
Oh no!
I’m gonna have to call you out those nonsense bamboo toothpicks. That’s just a gimmick! just plant the marigolds deeper like you do with tomatoes. Have you not done that before?
I have not done that before! Do you also do that for long seedlings like cosmos and dianthus?
❤
