Hi, everyone, it's Evangeline, and today we have our Thule Tepui rooftop-mounted Foothill tent. This is going to be a two-person compact tent where you mount it to your roof, but compared to other rooftop tents, it does take up less space and has less footprint. That way you can carry around other accessories. We are going to take a look at some of the features and I'll also show you how to set up the Thule Tepui Foothill right here at etrailer.com. I've been on some adventures where I use rooftop tents, and I've tried a bunch of different types. From my experience with these tents, the Foothill is what I would grab if I also wanna carry around a kayak or a bike and if my hitch receiver is already used up.
It does fold down to be very compact and very portable. Usually, a rooftop tent takes up all of your roof space, and the Foothill definitely helps out with that problem. However, in order to be more compact, you do have to trade some features. One example is that the ladder is not stored on the tent but has to be stored inside of your vehicle. Another example is that does take up a little bit extra time and effort to get the tent fully unfolded.
So let's start there. Let's get into that setup process. When loading this onto your roof, make sure it's facing the right way. You'll be able to see by the Thule logo as well as the location of the straps. You want those facing out because that will be the direction the ladder comes out to unfold your tent.
And when you attach it to your roof, you do get some different clamp options. So these are gonna be the bolts that you'll use with your roof rack. This will fit most types of roof racks. Just make sure to double-check that you have enough weight pass capacity to support this system. What I use is a 13 millimeter wrench to tighten these down.
These are gonna be a little bit of a hassle to tighten down because they're bolts and middle brackets. I prefer this style found on a new Thule Approach. But once this is on there, everything is secure and you shouldn't have to take it off too often. To unpack the Thule Tepui tent, you start with the buckles up front. These are held in place by hook and loop straps. Once those are off, you can then unzip the entire system. Then you have to reach up to your ladder, grab that ladder, and you're going to use that as a pivot point to undo the tent. Once that's done, you can then adjust your ladder for the height of your Seltos, and that's how you set up your Thule Tepui Foothill tent. Now inside the tent, you're gonna push on the supporting struts until they click into place. There's gonna be holes in the tent that you attach the end of the to, and then you're gonna use it to pull tension on that rainfly. Once you've patched all your rainfly rods and everything looks strong and sturdy, that's it for the setup of your Thule Tepui Foothill tent. Because we checked for clearances while the tent was in the portable position, we still have those clearances with the tent unfolded. Now if you do have any cargo on the other side of the tent on your crossbars, you might not be able to unfold the rainfly on that side. Let's say you have a kayak or a tall bike, but that's okay. You can just keep that rainfly in the folded position. Now, on the other side where the ladder is, you are gonna have to think about some things, which is if you need to open up your rear door, be careful not to hit the ladder. I do recommend entering on the other side. We still have hatch clearance in the back, which is awesome. Another tip while installing this is please be very careful when installing your rainfly rods. When you are close to your roof, hold onto that so the rod doesn't come down and scratch your roof as you install it. But once you have it all set up, that's it, you are ready to hop in and I would put out your bedding, load it up with your cargo, things like that. How it sits on your roof will be very different depending on what type of vehicle you have, but here's some general measurements. This is gonna add some length to the side of your car. So what I do is I measure from the clamp and then we go out, and I measured at around 65 or 66 inches. That's going to be about 5 1/2 feet. So, ideally, if you're parked in a parking lot, devote one parking space beside your car. If you're out in the woods or on some terrain, then that is something to be mindful of too. As with any rooftop tent, you'll want to park as level as possible so that you'r
