Noice. I went to a few of the BTCC races during the Super Touring era and I loved the look of the cars. The Laguna looked good in BTCC guise. Shame that Lagunas have mostly disappeared from the roads now. They were a good looking car.
After watching the BTCC in my late teens my second car had to be a Renault Laguna. I managed to get a 1.8RT cheap, lowered it, and stuck on some touring car style 18" alloys. It was all I could afford to do. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Good luck on the project. 😊
Now this is cool. I used to love touring cars back in the day. You had tiff needel, Jason plato, bishop, matt o niel etc,. The racing was always door to door excitement.
Hello, I have a question, did it seem to me or did you change the engine for a Clio Sport 172hp? If so, a very good idea, I congratulate you for recreating one of the most beautiful BTCC cars in history. Hugs from Buenos Aires Argentina...!!😍🤘👍👍🏁🏁🏁🏁
@@ChrisTheCarBuilder The work you are doing is excellent my friend, I love it, I congratulate you on the way you are doing it, I wish you the best and I am looking forward to seeing that beauty finished, I know it is a lot of work and it is a pleasure to see you do it... 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🏁🏁🏁🏁❤️
Following along on Instagram too, I’m building a 850btcc replica, also following a BTCC Mondeo too. Brilliant to see that I’m not completely alone lol.
3:13 not like that! 😮 By using your open hands - HIT first right side of the rim, and then left side. Do it in a fast loop in sequence. It sounds not logical (because you press/subtend steering wheel more) BUT that force will quickly release tension and wheel will pop up. BTW. The same trick is with the car wheels. Loose bolts and sit down on the ground and during sitting, using your legs/feet - hit right and then left side of the tire in a fast loop sequence - then the wheel will pop up
Nice work, always good to see a different build! I noticed you removed all the seam sealer between the floor panels and sills etc. so do you plan on doing any stitch welding?
This is great, thanks for sharing, can't wait to see the next stage. Did you swap the engine because the 172 engine is going to be powerful enough, or because its a better start point for future tuning?
The project is nice and all but what stroke me the most was how mint that Laguna was considering is a 90's car and is the kind off car that people abuse the most for not being expensive nor having a "premium" status.
A mate of mine back then was race mechanic for Alain Menu, he told me at the time that the Laguna was a terrible race car and that to make it any good they had to move the engine right back and much much lower. He said that it was unrecognisable under the bonnet as a Laguna because of all the mods needed to make it handle. Of course this isn't uncommon in any race car, but his view was that they had chosen a car that was handicapped by bad design and that the work needed to make it effective was unfair to people looking at the race car as proof that buying a Laguna was a good move for the road. Nonetheless, it looked like the dogs doo dahs and your project is cool.
I've seen the engine bay in person and he's not wrong! It sits about 30cm further back, and a dry sump allows it to sit easily 30cm lower. It's also tilted back, so much so that the diff on the gearbox which is normally at the back on the bottom is actually at the front on top. The offside driveshaft runs in front of the engine under the intake manifold. Madness! Will be interesting to see if mine makes an enjoyable race car after all this effort
Hi guys I need some advice instead of buying a Laguna 1 and a dropping a Clio 2 RS engine do you think its viable for tuning purposes if I buy the 2.0 F4R Laguna just outright? Would like to read your thoughts. Cheers
Yes it's fully possible but it's a de-tuned version. If you wanted to make it fast it'd need the Clio 172/182/197 intake manifold, exhaust, cams etc and run the ECU mapped for that
Oh my god! It's the project that I've been dreaming about for a couple of years now :o BTCC Laguna my dream car! Can you please tell in couple of sentences what is needed for swapping Clio 172bhp into Laguna shell? Is it plug n play or there is some work needed? and also Focus ST170 as a daily :)))))) man you are literally me
Hi mate! You need the engine mount from a 16v laguna, you need to keep the gearbox mount and torque mount from your own gearbox (clio gearbox housing is the same so you can use that). You need to use the 172 drive shafts, I'm not sure yet what hubs you need to fit the drive shaft splines. The wiring doesn't need much work, around 7 wires need moving to get it to run.
Any chance of finding an actual used BTCC engine and suspension? I’d think that might be the coup de grace for a build 🤔! Of course please excuse my ignorance if such things are un obtanum 😂
Parts are getting harder to find too these days. Hopefully by doing a clio 172 engine swap it'll make it easy enough for me to source parts and make it a little more reliable

Now, that's an amazing project right there
That was a clean Laguna to begin with!Had a 1.8 r reg in 2004-lovely car.
It was! But no rust means a clean slate to build from
Agreed-best not to have to weld and repair the car before you starting the build.Good job.
That Laguna was is great shape & very clean..!!
Fair play to ya buddy. That’s a hell of a tight build. Bravo, sir. 👏👏👏👏
That is one seriously clean shell 👍🏼
42k mile, zero rust. Was so nice to pull apart a car that didn't fight me the whole way haha
Love this era btcc cars 🔥🔥🔥
How great! In future I want to renovate my 21yo laguna 2 from strach
Mate… great swap. Love this
Ahora me siento más orgulloso de poder tener un Renault laguna igual al que reformaron!!!
Vivement la suite !!!!!!!!!
Fair shout dude. My favorite car "in the world" when I was growing up 😂. Best of luck. Will be sweet 👌👏
Fingers crossed!
That was the most mint p reg in the UK when you got it. But now I actually want a go in it when your done. Got to keep your viewers happy.
It was deffo a mint car! No point buying a pile of rust though, gotta start with a good canvas
this guy took 1 1/2 year to make his car undrivable. thumbs up
18 months and I've made it worse. You could say I'm a car guy 🤘🏼😂
Cool project love to see the final result of it 😎
I had a 2.0 8v one of these I loved it wish I never got rid
best laguna model too
Wow this is a exciting build. I’ve been thinking of doing a Camry or Primera replica (SATCAR) here in South Africa.
Great work. Thanks for the videos.👍🏼

I was planning to, but probably won't now as I just want to get it back together and I'm told it's a very solid chassis anyway
@@ChrisTheCarBuilder the stitch welding helps with body flex through turns keeping the wheels in contact with the road.

nice work and funny swap haha 🇫🇷🇫🇷

This is great, thanks for sharing, can't wait to see the next stage. Did you swap the engine because the 172 engine is going to be powerful enough, or because its a better start point for future tuning?
Bit of both mate. It bolts in easy enough and they can make 200hp+ without much work

What do you use to clean the engin bay and remove the blaskon ?
Gun thinners on the sound deadening, Gunk engine degreaser on the engine bay

Standard pain gun thinners mate!

What product are you using in your sprayer to clean the engine bay ? Seems very usefull !!
Standard paint gun thinners mate!
@@ChrisTheCarBuilder thanks for the advice !
you have to tap the steering wheel right and left to remove it.
Félicitations.

Hello, Nice work.
I have one question, Witch Brand from suspensions?
Avo
Nice work so far! Any updates on the build?
Roll cage is being fitted at the moment!
This is top tier content! Why were you trying to break the wheel off btw?😄
Pulling the wheel off the spline to replace it with an aftermarket racing wheel

please what is the part number of the coilover shocks? In France we do not find any for the Laguna B56
Use front shocks from a Clio 182 Cup! But you need to make custom top mounts for them
