      I have a pet chicken that's 10 years old and she likes coming inside the house so much that she waits outside the door or flies on the window sill for me to bring her in so she sleeps in my room on a towel,she also prefers being around me and my family inside the house rather than being outside with the rest of my animals which she will peck if they go near her and I absolutely love her and she has never pecked me or any other people❤️🐓

    #20, best advice of them all. Practice practice. People say to me (when I play the piano) how "talented" I am. Nope, not talent. Just as you are not a talented artist. You are a practiced and dedicated woman who chose to spend her time becoming great at something you chose.
    I only bought a piano 4 years ago and started playing by ear.. I cannot read sheet music, I only watch people playing on youtube while sitting at my piano for hours upon hours playing until I get it right.. there is no talent in that.. only practice and dedication.
    I wanted to be able to play and now I can.. I was hoping you'd mention practice- because therein lies how you become great, is really putting forth effort.

    • @LisaTigressHardy
      @LisaTigressHardy 7 років тому +6

      Wow! I have a friend from church who learned to play piano by listening to others play. She can read sheet music but prefers to learn by listening. I thought she as the only one who learned by listening. she plays beautifully too.

    • @SanaDesigns
      @SanaDesigns 3 роки тому +1

      Agreed on practice but not on no talent. The thing which made you choose piano, the thing which made you sit hours without getting board, the thing which helped you pickup music without learning sheet IS CALLED Talent. Talent is God given but it needs practice too.

    I just bought a piece of MDF board today and started painting on it already, I'm typically a very tight painter, so it's great how smooth the paint goes on and how nice it is to add small details! And it was a 2x4 ft piece that I got for $7 and got it cut down into 18 great pieces!

    Art should never be put into square box, your reassurance to many artists is a vital factor for their success. I didnt paint for years only because i thought I was doing it wrong, not the "right" way. And only now I can say that this mind limitation is over and this amazing thing you do about sharing important points with others is truly important! Love your work! :)

    I showed your video to my high school art class yesterday. They enjoyed it a great deal, and found your tips useful and reassuring. And your personality hit a chord among quite a few of them.
    They told me to 'like' it, but I already had.
    So consider this your informal second 'like.'

    The problem with using hairspray (for drawings anyway, not sure for paintings) is that your art will yellow over time. Just use fixative, it ain't that expensive.

    awwwwwww lil baby chicken ;A; and that natural lightbulb tip is seriously the greatest thing. i suffered with gross yellow light for a couple of years before i was like 'why am i torturing myself' and i went on a hunt. i told my family because i was asking them if they knew what exactly the bulbs are called (LED daylight bulbs) and my bro ended up finding them for me and getting them for me! it's FANTASTIC! i have a two bulb tall lamp in my room, and the movable head i put the bulb in and the other stationary one is the yellow one. i keep both so i don't kill the natural ones so quickly and the yellow is good for just general use and not feeling so awake with the natural light one haha.

      LOL, Terrific. I like having separate sections, but any smooth non-porous will do. Have to ask, what type of cereal? Last request. I was trying to do a project painting on rocks with acrylic but it came out too thick and unnatural. Any suggestions or tutorials? Thanks Always

    • @RobinSealark
      @RobinSealark  7 років тому

      XD honey bunches of oats- i don't eat cereal normally, but I borrowed from family I was staying with. Im surprised it came out thick. I wonder if the paint itself was getting old or dried out. It'd be fun to do a 'painting on non-traditional surfaces video'

    • @stephensalzman6444
      @stephensalzman6444 7 років тому +1

      I think it might be me. My traditional medium has been pencils, markers or chalk. I love chalk cause it's like pastels only So Cheap. Anyway if you have a tutorial on paint prep or brush work I'll watch it. Honey bunches of success to you and yours.
      P.S-Tried charcoal transfer yesterday with client (I'm a therapist) Didn't transfer perfectly but working on it. Thanks again.

    #1 I use paper plates (for oil and wax) or a piece of plastic. With acrylic, I use 4 mil plastic to cover a table, instant palette. And when the acrylic dries, I lift it up and reuse it with gel medium. :-) Negative shape painting and voila.
    #2 I use low tack masking tape. But good idea.
    #3 Only one? I bought a set of 14 pottery/sculpting knives for $16 and it included a nifty case.
    #4 Good idea. I like it. Normally the paint settles to the bottom anyway.
    #5 Skip the chicken and go for a plant.
    #6 Of course. For an interesting take on a color wheel, see Bob Burridge's color wheel.
    #7 van Gogh used a picture plane to help with his drawing. So did all of the Renaissance painters.
    #8 Great idea. You can color match that way. ;-)
    #9 Gesso Transfer. Nice. (I look forward to your tutorial.) Or you could use a substrate and print on your surface of choice, coke cans, chain mesh. See Kathyanne White ua-cam.com/video/-R39_5pIDS4/v-deo.html (I look forward to your tutorial.)
    #10 OK. Of course.
    #11 Studies. Always was the best way to learn is to copy a master.
    #12 Good
    #13 I always tell our students, "Don't throw that board away, give it to me. I've been given everything from acrylic boards, to gessoed watercolor paper, to pristine boards. Yay!"
    #14 I spray with whey as I go. That fixes it. Whey and alcohol. You can get the concentrate and use a cheap Russian vodka. Van Gogh used to pour a glass of milk over his drawings to fix them. And most probably Degas as well. I find newsprint does not smear as much as good drawing paper.
    #15 :-) Right now all the art supply stores, Cheap Joe's, Jerry's, Dick Blick, are having their 40% or more off Summer Blowout Sale.
    #16 Even for acrylic this is a good idea. But for oil it is essential. I usually have a couple of drawings, and at least 4 paintings, normally 6, going on at the same time. I often paint in a series, always a good idea, and even paint 3-6 paintings at the same time. :-) =:-0
    #17 OK. OK. I subscribed. :-)
    #18 Of course or use a picture plane. I had a guy stop buy selling wonderful wooden version for big dollars. Handmade but you can make one with a sheet of plastic and a picture frame and a marker. Good times. (ua-cam.com/video/rlskGj4qfKk/v-deo.htmlm24s BTW, Edwards should sue this guy. ;-)
    #19 Indeed. My old friend Richard Thompson used to have a skylight in his studio and he only worked when he had the light. Most artists I know use daylight. Church was a studio painter and had huge windows in his very posh studio. Full Spectrum lights are a great idea.
    #20 As my good friend Bob Burridge says, he goes into his studio and does gesture drawing and painting to loosen up for an hour or two and then paints for 8 hours. He does this just about EVERY DAY. If you can't paint, draw.

    I'm new at learning how to oil paint. My husband is a supervisor at a company that builds all types of things from wood. I mentioned MDF boards and he said that there was tons of scrap mdf boards he could get someone in his crew to cut me some various sizes for free! I got 12 each of 11x14, 10x8, and 4x6. He forgot the 5x7s but that's ok! I gessoed a bunch of them and can't wait to try one out!!
