Or the cultivation stage of the ghost? I'm thinking of starting ghostia as an aux path when it releases, do I have to farm lower realm mats to level up my ghost?
I have not encountered such a situation you are talking about. However, I believe it is possible to use a higher stage of material than your Ghost's cultivation stage but not lower than your Ghost's cultivation stage.
Also, I'll try to be clearer in my explanations next time. It's always a bit stressful for me to do talking videos, resulting in these mistakes in properly conveying information and my thoughts.
