On the Mount Olympus of poets & songwriters, Gordon Lightfoot has a little cottage over by the cliffs. The one where oil lamps burn through misty evenings when the seas are at peace.......I tip my pen to you, sir. #RIPGordonLightfoot
What I've always like about this song is not only the rhyming scheme but how the syllables and consonants roll off the tongue. One example among many" "and farther below Lake Ontario". And yeah, "coming back from some mill in Wisconsin". Remarkable. Great job.
Thank you so much Charles for this tribute to Gordon and also for the Seneca Creek song! I’ve walked those waters my whole life and that song is hauntingly Stellar!
Very nice! I believe Hank Erwin covered this too on his latest, "The Copper Album". Man if you can check out that last bonus track reprise "Hell or Harlan", you'd dig if you haven't heard it... and the back story to it. 🤙
Damned if we didn't just come from seeing you with Cody Jinks in Highland Heights KY. My wife said you sounded like Gordon Lightfoot.Great show, You were awesome
You sound great on this song. I sang along with you and It was slightly easier for me than singing along with Mr Lightfoot, who normally sang higher than my amateur voice is comfortable with. Your left hand was frustratingly out of frame the whole time, though, so I couldn't tell - Were you in the key of A, or slightly lower?
It's a lot of lyrics, huh? Yup. Can leave a singer-songwriter winded, like they did a quarter mile on the track, that song can. I liked the way you put your own twist on there so you could breathe a little bit 😂😂😂... I can say though, only a handful of tunes have ever netted me a one hundred dollar tip, and that one has done it more than once. It's a good choice for a Buskers night out, on a busy corner with a tip bucket. Or, perhaps a place with a more "captive" audience? Such as a laundromat? It's a great choice. If you bring some laundry, then they'll wash it for you while you're picking 🎸, in most (but not all) cases. You might get some funny looks though if you're gonna try something like that in somewhere less than conducive to live music, and the management might run you off, too... if you don't first check with them if it's okay. Usually, kinda like 85 to 90 % of the time, management has no problem with it if you're a decent sounding performer, who doesn't overpower the work environment with their sound. Even mechanics shops , make good busking places. Mechanics tip good, too. If their company policy doesn't allow radio 📻 but says nothing about live music 🎶, usually the management says alright "but, don't make a habit of it..." 😅
Thank you so much for this beautiful tribute. Rest in peace, Gord. You'll be sorely missed.

Hearing of my favorite GORDY'S passing away May 1st
One of my favorite storytellers paying tribute to one of my favorite storytellers. Wonderful.
Awesome man….I grew up 40 miles from the wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald, this hits home .

I remember this song well. My brother was a merchant marine in the early 70s. Trained at Piney Point MD.

When Gordon passed the bells rang another 29 times plus one more for the man they call lightfoot

It would be amazing to hear a cover of rainy day people or if you could read my mind

" at 7pm it grew dark, it was then....." You thought you could slip that past us? Nice try. Not bad actually.
Hope to never see a black bear in that posture.
slow down. I love it, but slow down to FEEL IT. I’m from Detroit and been to Whitefish point. Slow down. Feel it. IMHO.
What a voice. Wow
Legendary

If you have not visited the museum in whitefish point michigan I'd recommend it! I'd post a photo if I could. Thank you for all you do ❤
