You need world class goalkeepers to compete with the best players in Europe and the world. Where are the great Scottish keepers? We'll see what happens with *Cieran Slicker* of Premier League-promoted Ipswich and Scotland U21, who are doing well in the U21 Euro qualifiers. We need to be at that tournament next summer to help Scotland build for the future, we haven't qualified for U21 Euros in decades.
The elements are there for Scotland to become a very good national team this decade. These Euros are a big deal, but being in the next two World Cups is what every major footballing nation is feverishly focused on. Nations League counts towards the criteria for getting into the World Cup playoffs (12 teams compete for 4 places) and Scotland have to play Portugal, Croatia and Poland. World Cup qualifiers begin in September next year, mostly groups of 4 teams.
We need to come at least second in Nations League 2024/25 and come
second in our World Cup qualifiers group, it would seem.
Huge task, huge-huge task.
