      Great video as always. I have a question I think you have not answered in any of your videos (please correct me if I am wrong).
      Why using ETFs and not index funds? I particularly like IE00BYX5NX33 and IE00B03HD191, so I can invest in the MSCI ACWI with less comissions than the ETFs you mention. Furthermore, I will be able to switch to the distribution versions in the future without paying taxes (not possible with ETFs in Spain AFAIK). Is there anything I am missing?

    I would like to have your opinion on pros and cons of individual versus joint investment accounts (maybe an idea for a video). IBKR provides the option for joint accounts (interesting for married people, parents/children etc) while DeGiro does not. I am not sure what are the tax and inheritance implications. Many thanks!!

      Thank you! Yes, although it will probably be difficult to generalize for whom it makes sense, since taxes in Europe are so different. Hello Angelo, thank you for yet another great video. What is your opinion about investing in lending companies listing loans from various marketplaces (example - Credit start loans on Mintos and Lendermarket). You mentioned that you are investing in ITF group, which lists loans on Bondster, Income and soon in Lendermarket. Doesn`t this bother you as an investor?

    • @AngeloColomboFi
      @AngeloColomboFi  9 місяців тому

      You're welcome! I don't see that as an issue, in fact it could be good for LOs if they have more avenues to get funded. In my opinion it would only be a problem in case of fraud, for example in case a LO would list the same loan twice across two platforms.

    Hi Angelo, your videos are great. just one question: you always recommend interactive brokers. But i guess in Austria/Germany Flatex would be better (which handles your tax). Or else how do you calculate Dividens and especially the Austrian "Ausschüttungsgleiche Eträge" for Etfs during the year? I tried to calculate (and check) this myself with the calculations from Flatex, but mine and their numbers never really matched. Thx.

    Great video Angelo! I recently started investing in ETFs with flatex as my broker since I also live in Austria. How difficult is it to do the taxes with a broker like scalable capital or IKBR?

    • @AngeloColomboFi
      @AngeloColomboFi  8 місяців тому

      Thank you! I'd stick to Flatex to keep things simple. If you stick to the saving plans for 1,5€ and don't need to buy/sell on a regular basis, then you won't be paying much more in comparison.
      Otherwise you can of course consider alternatives like Trade Republic and Scalable, which provide you with pretty good tax reports specifically for Austria on a yearly basis. But while they make tracking easier, they still require you to file taxes every year, which eats up a bit of time: angelo.fi/etfs

    Hey Angeo thanks again for your help! I have a question if I may.
    Do you plan to sell all your ETFs at the same time when you’ll retire or one at the time? Also will you have to pay taxes on that? Cause if you do, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of investing in the first place (unless if live off dividends)?
    Thanks again man! Hopefully your family is doing good!!

    • @AngeloColomboFi
      @AngeloColomboFi  9 місяців тому

      You're welcome Sean!
      Why would I sell all of my shares once I retire? I would only sell whatever amount I need to cover living expenses in a given year and/or keep a certain amount in cash reserved for that. After all, I want my investments to last me a life-time (and perhaps beyond, so my daughter and family are taken care of as well).
      Why would taxes defeat the purpose of investing? You pay a certain percentage in taxes on profits you realize and dividends you receive. By that reasoning is it better not to work either, since you have to pay taxes? 😅
      And if you have an accumulating ETF which reinvests dividends, you can simply sell whatever percentage the distributing version pays out on a yearly basis to the same effect, while being more tax-efficient long-term.

One question about your disinterest in DEGIRO, can you be more specific about the cons about this broker? As a Belgium resident, DEGIRO seems to me the best option because they take care of the TOB (the tax per transaction in Belgium which is 0.35%) directly into account and as far I know IB do not take care of this parameter for the Belgium residents.

    Hello, Angelo! I would like to ask you: in which affiliate of Interaktive Brokers do you have an account? As I know, if it is Interaktive Brokers Ireland (for European investors), positions are insured only for 20.000 EUR. What do you know about it?

    • @AngeloColomboFi
      @AngeloColomboFi  9 місяців тому +1

      IB Ireland. That is sadly the low level of extra "protection" most European countries offer, it has nothing to do with IB itself. That extra insurance should never be needed since assets are fully segregated from the brokers assets and only belong to you. Thus in case of bankruptcy, they can be transferred to another brokerage account of yours.
      Luckily with IB many positions are actually custodied by IB LLC, which covers up to 500k:
      "To the extent that your securities (or cash balances, to the extent they are acting as margin in support of a short stock or option position carried by IBLLC) are custodied at IBLLC, they are protected by SIPC for a maximum coverage of $500,000."
      Plus a $30 million Lloyd's insurance.
      Based on my research so far, our ETF shares are also registered via IB LLC, so we should be protected under SIPC as well. But it's something I'm investigating further - might make for an interesting video topic!

    Hi Angelo,
    Do you buy the VWCE IBIS2 ? I found only that etf for VWCE on IBKR but it does not show any dividends data. Can it be that I bought the wrong etf? For VWRL I see that it pays 1.98%
    Thanks in advance

      I believe VWCE is the accumulating version of the VWRL. Accumulating ETFs don't distribute dividends which is useful for investors in countries where dividends are heavily taxed but other than that they're basically the same fund.

    Hi I have a quick question: how's possible that Interactive brokers changes me 3/4 euros on transaction worth about 50/150 euros? It is normal having those fees on ETFs or I'm doing something wrong? (I bought from Borsa Italiana and the London exchange) and if I'm doing something wrong, how could I pay less fees?

      Ok then you're definitely using fixed pricing (starts at 3€). Here's a pricing sheet you can use: angelo.fi/ibpricing

      @@AngeloColomboFi Thanks Angelo, fair enough, but I have been hearing this argument for decades , and it was rarely the case, the 2nd part of it is easily refuted. while the NASDAQ this year was giving great yield it's only one sector and thus extremely volatile, not for the faint of heart.
      Apologies if it comes out as criticism, and if it does it's because I don't know how to frame it any better and have my question be understood, because I am really curious, and maybe I can learn something.
      Here is the thing about the SPX, it's composed of the biggest 500 multinational companies in the world that register with US exchanges (So not only Americans), in 11 different sectors that seem to complement each other, it's always the 500 biggest, if one drops its ranking its kicked out, and a better one is selected. close to 100% of the time it outperformed the VWRL, by a noticeable margin.
      With that in mind, the answer that the 500 biggest US-exchanged multinational will be dethroned any time soon is not very convincing for me(Do you see why?), and even if it were, why not invest in SPX and move to VWRL when the trend changes?
      Sorry again if I come around as too harsh, but we are here to learn and improve our finance, and you graciously provide the venue to sate my curiosity, so I am hoping I am not abusing it.

      I only said it was easier in this case for me to have all the distributing Vanguard FTSE All-World shares on a single account. There's nothing wrong with having assets on several accounts (I do as well). The protection you mention by the way should never really be relevant though (only in case of fraud, for which we have strict regulatory oversight), as your stocks/ETFs only belong to you, even in case of bankruptcy.

      Just sent you a reply via email. You didn't get charged that amount, you didn't even execute the order, which showed 1,25€ as minimum commission, the way it should be. The way smart routing works is that IB always shows you the best and worst case scenario looking at all exchanges, since they try to get you the best price for your shares across all exchanges (incl fees). I've never been charged more than 1,25€ plus a few cents extra at times when the order is executed via IBIS. You can use this sheet to calculate fees from now for VWCE on using tiered pricing: angelo.fi/ibpricing

    Luckily in the case of Switzerland, there are no capital gains taxes - so you just sell, get the money, transfer and buy at the new broker.
