GREAT VIDEO! can you show us how to change a pre-made outdoor solar security light? maybe how to make them turn on & off when we WANT instead of being motion detected? and maybe add a ?? dial if possible? to turn them up brighter or down for lower lighting? Then finally my biggest question! Is there any way to use these solar power lights for an alternative purpose? by maybe taking OUT the light, probably double up the batteries? and add a USB charger? I have 8 brand new ones, and I've already separated 3. Placed the solar on my outside & the light on my inside for motion detected lighting inside, but really they're brighter than I need. They stay going 3 days now so far with overcast! Free lighting! Yay!! (free solar phone charging would be AWSOME!

Collector max Current: -0.15 A for A1015 transistor and current of 1W LED is: 1W/3,3V= 0.3A. We have to add resistor(may be 10-12 Ohm) between collector and anode pins. It"ll be save LED"s life (and battery, too).
Why do you need a resistor? in my calculations it is not needed. The batteries when full charged 'll be: 4.20, the LED is about 3.3v, so you have to reduce: 0.9v, so (0.9v / 300ma) = 3OHMS. Not 10000, Am I right?
@@ronaldd.1355 Dear Ronald, there is such a thing as "instantaneous current value", which affects the moment the load is turned on. This current exceeds the rated current by 5-6 times. Goodday. What a simpel and great solution for this application. Is there a way to make the LED go on when it is a bit more dark? Mine is going on very soon...
Your 2x 1watt 6 volts solar panel are verry weak to charge 2x 2000mAh lithium battery. Cuz your 2 panel can only produce 0.333 amps of current, not much. (P/E or V=I) you do the math. And the TP 4056 will ignore it. Cuz TP4056 have a minimum accepting current of 37% battery capacity. So if you have 2x 2000mAh battery, you need 0.740amps of current from the panel to charge your battery. It means u need 5watts 6volts solar panel that can produce 0.833 amps of current enough to charge those 2x 2000mAh battery. But overall, i love the video. You work clean.

Is the transistor working as some sort of current regulation there, or is the LED straight up getting the full battery voltage? If the second thing is the case, use a 3.3v regulator (if it‘s a linear one, it can still waste up to 800mW with a 3W LED but the LED will get a constant current).
its working as a switch it turns off the leds while the solar pannel is providing voltage which charges the batterys, but when the pannels are not producing voltage the leds turn on and use the battery voltage

@@samwallin9694 I know, it‘s a PNP type transistor. I just don‘t know if it has a internal resistance, because it‘s the only thing between the LED (2.6 to 3.3V) to the battery (2.6 to 4.2V).
@@samwallin9694 How does the current flow from batteries to the 1W Led (+) lead at night? The PNP transistor turns ON when it is night? If it is, the 2SA1019 transistor doesn't drive much current, just 0.05A, and the 1W LED needs at least 0.300 A... Greetings from Argentina!

It will be better If you use a MOSFET P-CHANNEL instead a bipolar transistor (e.g. IRF9640)... Greetings from Argentina!❤
There's no need. You're losing some voltage across the transistor. I recreated a similar project (I found where I made a mistake when I previously use his scheme) and the voltage on the diode was 3.17V (so for white LED is ok), while the battery voltage was 4.1V
This is a pnp transistor. Shouldn't the base be connected to the negative of the solar panel? Wouldn't connecting the base to the opposite polarity be causing a short? It should honestly still work since electrons move from the negative to the positive terminal so it'll eventually reach the base but still i can't help but think it is causing a short somewhere.
Not at all. The base is connected to the right pin (+), because when the sun lights the panel, the +V of the panel _BLOCKS_ the PNP transistor, and _when the night comes,_ the voltage of the panel fall to zero, activating the transistor, and driving current from battery to the Led across the collector... These transistors commonly are rated for 300-600mA. A 5W LED could draw 1.5A at 3V. So just look for one that has such current capabilities and is PNP. Also, don‘t connect the LED straight up to the TP4056s output and use a buck regulator instead.
it was not used when i made this i used a 20 ohm resistor inline with the negative side of the led and that drops down the voltage as i was worried about burn out
There is a lot wrong with this circuit, and you spotted one of the issues. The other issue is that there were no diodes used to prevent backflow energy. Normally 1 or 2 Schottky diodes are used to prevent that in 1 or two places in the circuit. The thing is you don't actually have to have a way to set the current in this setup since the 18650's are 3.7v nominal (but can go up to 4.2v) while the 1w led wants about 3.5v. Personally, for longevity of the LED, I would use an XL4056E right before the LED and set the current there so no matter what voltage hits it the current is what is driving it (which is what we want).
