Finally!!! Only Bernard Hermann, Il Trittico and this version do justice to Raff's music. Also first time in direct video performance. Thanks million to Croisé.
@@CCROISEC The 2nd is SO fun, I know you will love it. I hope beyond anything that Raff will get more exposure on the stage because of people like you.
Considering the repertoire for cello concertos is limited it’s surprising that this first class work is not heard more often. The ways of organisers for concerts/recordings are strange indeed. Ok it may not be as fine as Dvorak’s or Elgar’s but variety is essential in all walks of life and music is certainly no exception. I love the tone you elicit from your wonderful instrument M. Croise, absolutely gorgeous :-)
I think first class is a bit kind! There are at least 20 greater cello concertos than this that have not yet reached the standard repertoire...Try the Englund, Finzi, Moeran, Bliss, Goldschmidt, Koppel, Sallinen, Caplet, Albert, Vainberg, Hindemith 3rd concerto, Ridout, Miaskovsky, Atterberg, Williams concertos! Let alone the Barber, Walton, Schostakovich 2nd, Dutilleux, Lutoslawski, masterpieces all, that still remain only on the fringes of the repertoire in terms of number of actual performances.
@@greatmomentsofopera7170These are not absolutes, of course. Most people would rate the Saint-Saëns #1 over any of these, if only because of familiarity. And many are entirely different works than the Raff. What you consider a "top 10" concerto depends on you; it's not an intrinsic property of the work. Personally, I consider the Elgar to be grossly over-rated, for instance.
Pablo Casals wanted to play it in concert deep into 20c Cent but was denied for fear of Raff's tarnished or unfamiliar name, stupid Music Establishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neeme Järvi did a pretty stellar symphony 2 and 5, honestly.

Beautiful. UwU
This is not a criticism, but the finale reminds me of the finale of Mozart's 39th Symphony..

thats crazy!
Raff sidelined inspite of his extensive compositions. I think his creativity should see more light.

this concerto is not any "easier", I think, than the others...
