Great lap Jimmy! One small correction: Amazingly, Bellof's record was set on the same 12.9 mile layout of the Nordschleife we have in AC. The old 1982 layout included a 1.3 mile hairpin loop hanging off the southernmost point at the point where the GP circuit bypass is now (in front of the T13 grandstands). In 1983, the bypass was added, because construction was underway on the GP Strecke circuit, making the old hairpin loop unusable.
That's correct. Before 1983, the hairpin loop was used, adding 1.3 miles. In 1984 and after, the "combined" Nordschleife and GP-Strecke layout has been used.
Everytime I watch Jimmy's videos, I'm just amazed at his ability to commentate with so much emotion and drive the way he does at the same time. The moment I open my mouth in a race with my friends sends me down a ditch. Keep up the good work, my dude.

I'd say he can do that because he's in a sim rig, not the real car. With the full g forces the produces applied to his brain case, his commentary would be, less eloquent.
Hey Jimmy, nice video long time watcher. Just a heads up though I live here in Japan and one of my friends actually owns a couple of these cars, he has and original Rothmans 962C that has number plates and then he has a 962C Taisan race car which is strictly for circuit. The wheels torque that you have seems to be much greater than what its like in real life, sure the car doesn't have power steering and it has big slicks on it but at high speed the steering shouldn't feel like you're dragging a bag bricks around, lower speed stuff and moving it around slower corners sure a little heavy. I think you have to remember these cars were meant to be driven for a long time, no way in hell could someone wrestle with that type of heavy steering for hours on end. I have a little bit of history with racing cars and drifting for quite a few years and I think a lot of sim guys confuse HEAVY steering for realistic driving, these types of setups remind me of power steering cars that have broken power steering belts and you have to force those front wheels to turn, like you have here in this video. Played on my buddies direct drive setup, same pedals as you as well and his setup was so insanely tough to pull around the circuit which is fine cause it's all personal preference but I think personally it's a tad crazy when a modern day GT3 race car with power steering that feels wonderfully responsive but has over 15+ NM of torque programmed into the sim wheel. As an example even an older Lotus without power steering has max of 4 to 5 NM of torque in it. Regardless of my mumbling, enjoy your videos a lot. Best regards from Japan.
What you're saying doesn't seem accurate. Group C cars were notoriously brutal, and by all accounts very tiring to drive. For example, a Derek Bell quote about the 956 (from Evo article) - "I mean, we had no power steering. Whenever it got pushed back into the garage I literally had to slip my seat belts, lean forward and grab the wheel, with my chest against it, just to turn it. The effort was massive. Of course at the time I didn’t know any different because I hadn’t driven anything with power steering. And on a warm day it could reach 150 degrees in the cabin. It was very, very debilitating, to be honest. So consequently, during a 24-hour race, you got exhausted." In this video: ua-cam.com/video/qJgdfd1r3IA/v-deo.html Niels drives a Group C with a maxed-out 16Nm DD, and estimates it to be '2/3rds or a half' of the realistic torque value. As a respected physics developer his estimates are believable, and he has another video explaining in detail how he calculates these values: ua-cam.com/video/bynp2wiadKM/v-deo.html I think real steering torque is easily underestimated when compared to a sim rig, as a real car is so much more physical due to the G-forces, and the very real possibility of injury/death puts the driver in very different frame of mind. Sims aren't able to deliver the full picture, so a high-torque wheel stands out as it feels 'too strong' relative to the rest of the experience, when actually it's probably about right (or in the case of most consumer wheels, not strong enough).
Warmbeer when I was sitting passenger in the 962C it didn't look near impossible to turn that steering wheel. All I'm saying is trying to put the whole cars inertia into a steering wheel just seems a little overkill sometimes.
The wheel is always going to be harder to turn when you are at very low speeds (being pushed into a garage) but I would be very surprised if the wheel weight Jimmy has used is realistic for the high speeds.

Just this last week I've been driving this 962 at the ring and am still learning the track and there are a few corners that still catch me out. I recall Bellof did not use the narrow banked inner part of the curve at Carousel, he found it faster to maintain ground effect going on the flatter portion of the curve using the dropped bank as apex. Upsetting the suspension and ground effect going in, and going out lost more time than the bank itself was able to gain. There may now be a video on youtube of his qualifying lap. May he rest in Peace, another great talent lost far too young. There may or may not have team orders relating to not use the concrete banking, but... most drivers used it all the time... The clever bit would be to test both pathways for time. I have seen film and now video over the years of this corner and a few take the outer track to maintain full ground effect and cause any suspension upset. Fun sim... thanks for posting it.

The record was set in a 956, the 962 was built to new rules that were made to keep the drivers feet behind the front tires (making the 956 ineligible to be used anymore), and to compete in IMSA
GuGu2P ™ the 956 is a bit lighter but also got a few HP less than the 962, however performance wise it could get better results, or Stefan Bellof is better than Jimmy xD
GuGu2P ™ the 962 had a slightly longer wheelbase to accommodate the rules for the feet to be behind the centerline of the wheels. The 956 used a 2.65 twin turbo, while the 962 used a 2.8 (a 3.0 was also used) either twin turbo's, or a single turbo (single turbo to my knowledge was mainly used in IMSA.) There were a few other changes like where the turbos were positioned in the chassis, the roll cage, etc, but the big thing was engine and length. A writeup in an edition of Vintage motorsports featured a 962 Al Holbert updated, and how Porsche followed his updates for future 962's! Such things as using a billet piece of aluminium at the front bulk head instead of sheet aluminium to reduce front end flex, moving the turbo on top of the engine (giving it a famous "hump back") to reduce turbo lag, and my favorite thing, he used STOCK Porsche 928 calipers for the front for better braking.

I thought the configuration used today was the one Bellof used. I know there was a bypass mentioned due to construction of the new GP layout and before they used to race on a 'loop' using the current main straight then left hander before looping round and on to where the new track connects to the old track, almost similar to the '24 Hours' connection.
Stefan Bellof is a legend, not well known one unfortunately. Great video! BTW if you ever run into tracking issues with your Rift remove that Heusinkfeld sticker and you'll have about twice as many IR diodes your sensors can track. =D
Nice set up, not taking anything from it but the fear is not there. Your butt isn't puckering up on turns when you feel a little slide from getting loose. Any game time will never match reality. Good Video.
Hello Jimmy that was excellent. With the dogbox you can downshift without using the clutch by blipping the throttle as you pass through neutral which allows left foot braking everywhere.

Just did a 6:27.3 Jimmy's my sim racing idol and this seemed like a great challenge to try, i totally plebbed it up though by over shooting the first carousel >.< Thank you for the inspiration Jimmy! :D
Ace vid. Great driving. My favourite track. Got a Sauber C9 on Gran Turismo with a PB of 5min 23 my mate beat me that day with a lower 23. Recently 5 min 2 seconds with F1 in Forza 7. I remember two or three laps flat out o needed a break. It's hard work. Set you have is lush.
I timed that in about 6:24 for the 20,832 metre run. Nice sim-lap, hard to see where you can shave 13 seconds. And Bellof ran a narrower and bumpier track.
Great lap, Jimmy! The sad part about it for me is that I have some assists on when I've done the nords with this thing, and I don't have my wheel turned up to the torque you do, yet I'm still ten seconds slower!
Rosemeyer ... Siffert ... Rodriguez ... Von Trips ... Bonnier ... my list is already tragically too long, and there are plenty more that can be added to it by someone with more knowledge than I have.
After pc1 I must say well done that's probly the best vid I've seen of pc2 . The in car view didn't look elongated like I've seen on many other pc2 vids . The track looked in perspective also . I'm tempted to buy pc2 but after pc1 I really dont know
