In this video, I am going to show you how to test for black mold in 5 minutes.
Now be advised, it does come with some caveats so make sure you watch the entire video. There may be better options that are more clear results. Just like anything, this method has it's pros and cons.

I just tested positive in bloodwork for all three mold types and S.Atra was so high. I have to test two houses for mold now and don't even know where to begin, so thank you for this video.
Hi, I was wondering what type of blood tests you took that I should ask for? I'm just starting on my mold problem/healing journey. Thank you, hope you're feeling okay
Lookup shoemaker protocol
@@darragh100 thank you!! 😊
What blood work did you have? What's the name of the test? Thank you.
How are you doing now?
For those of you wondering why he says "You can't even really see the Penicillium / Aspergillus one anymore.", what he is referring to is the right side of the test kit window of each test. What the narrator of this video fails to mention is that a single line indicates a NEGATIVE result. A positive result requires TWO lines, one line on the left side (obviously visible in both test kits) and another line on the right side as well. (Barely visible on the Stachybotrys test kit and no longer visible at all on the Asp/Pen test kit)
Thanks, I was definitely confused about what he was saying.
Thanks for explaining
I was like false positives are bad, glad to hear he just didn’t explain well

Yes, take it SERIOUSLY!
Toxic Black Mold destroyed my health, and took a long time to heal from! 😫
I’m glad you recovered. I’m sure it was a long grueling recovery. Mold is slowly taking my health for almost 2 years…. and I can’t get out of it. There’s a swamp of Stachybotrys and Aspergillis penicillium behind my walls. I can’t sell my house, I spent most of my money on mold testing/inspection and testing on me. If I didn’t live in Florida, I’d buy a tent and live in my yard. Mold will change your life forever.

We had black mold and other toxic molds in our home. 2 of our animals died, my young son ended up with seizure disorder, Fibro etc.
Thank you, thank you. The two tests both looked like clear lines on left side to me, maybe next time could draw out what you see and to look for? Thanks again
very informative and focused on the topic. i leanred a lot and will be doing my own air born testing based on your content
But he said in Con number 2 that the home test doesn't tell you if it's airborne or not. Pros are good things about the test kit; Cons are bad things about the home test kit.

This test kit work fantastic. I got great results.
I haven’t watch the video can u tell me the cost ? And where I can get it etc thanks
Giving me a swab to determine what type of mold and already visible mold is, is not super helpful. Finding the mold to begin with is 90% of the battle.

Mold in my condo was Alternaria, Penicillium Aspergillosis, Cladisporium, a small amount of Stachytbotyrus. There were many molds, can't remember all. Green, gray, black, pink. I lived in it long time, was so sick. Tired, forgetful, rashes. Was terrible!
Thank you very much for this information I'm pretty sure I will be reaching out to you for more advice even though my HOA is responsible for the roof that was supposably fixed and I told them I'm still having a problem they brought the roofer back he went in the attic saw nothing been going back and forth finally I got a sturdy ladder went up my self couldn't believe what I saw and he didn't..tits was raining when I went up and I had a small waterfall coming from the roof above the kitchen..I've been dealing with this for a year now and when I first reported it, it took 3 months before they got a roofer to come out and did nothing to prevent further damage..it's been a nightmare
Next time it rains, take a video with your phone. Show it to the HOA and call an attorney!
I have lived in San Diego in a rental house on Mt. Helix for the last 9 years. When I moved in I could smell a musty mold odor. The mildew/mold I've found and cleaned through the years has always been on the walls facing the outside. The walls have no insulation. The walls from the outside are stucco, wood, 4" of bare space, then wood paneling. There was a huge water slab leak under the top house. All the contractor did was permanently shut off the water line to this faucet near the driveway. My ceiling used to leak a lot. There are cracks and water marks and a droopy ceiling in the bedroom. Oh, and my ceiling is the patio of the house in the front of the property. A large patio where the rude tenants and their juvenile delinquent kids play soccer, ride bikes and jump up and down on over the years. Psychological abuse for sure. No heater in the bedroom where it gets freezing (45*F). The landlord came up the other day and looked at the mold and said, "That's not that much mold". "You're not coughing," he said. "There's no air circulation in here, open some windows". "It's in the middle of winter", I will not! He brought up a dehumidifier and wants me to run it 24/7 on my electric bill and wants to get another one for the living room. I have 5-6 of those Damp X containers all around the 1 bd house, but I'm tired of paying for this bandaid temp. fix. I tried to get a mold inspector out here to find out what type of mold, but they have to get permission from the landlord. He said NO. Even to a free inspection the other day. Still No. My joints and muscles ache all the time, and sometimes it's hard to walk. Two years ago I got a black Labrador puppy, he's not sick. No amount of mold is good, I know. The backs of my bedroom furniture had this grey film. I have pictures. So if the mold was deadly, I would be dead by now. What's the best way to kill it? Or is this place doomed to always have it? I kill it then paint over it, that seems to work for a few years. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Patty
Have it remediated by a professional toxic mold specialist !!!!

More info on mold ands its consequences on health need to be out there.
It is out there, just look for it
There really isn't definitive info. There are more than 300 thousand species of mold and it affects everyone different. There are some common symptoms that range from sniffles to extreme health problems. That goes for all molds. Stachy is the "toxic mold" however it's a wet, slimy mold that rarely goes airborne unless disturbed. Doctors have a hard time because of the numbers I mentioned. There haven't been any real studies done because of the variables. It's unfortunate but if you think you have a mold problem, call a professional who is certified by the iicrc. Their results with your doctor may help but there's no guarantee. I say that because only 5 states regulate mold so in most places anybody looking to scam someone can start a business. Sorry my comment is so long but I like to make sure people understand and don't get cheated and end up with a problem worse than what they started with. I hope that helps.

We have a dehumidifier that we turn on before we shower. It went out once and mold went wild on the ceiling! Older houses like ours (1940 build) do have windows next to tub and shower but if you live in a very humid environment such as the Florida coast, it’s not enough. Plus, who wants cold winter wind greeting you when you step out of the shower? Get a dehumidifier.
How can I find your guide
Can mold thrive or be a concern if you live in a low humidity dry climate? I live in Colorado Springs, CO and even though it rains and snows here, the air is so dry we are usually running a humidifier. I"m asking because we've been having some weird health issues lately and am wondering if this is a possibility. Thank you.
Yup. I live in a very dry area too and we gave some leaky 2indows replaced, and then ebbed yup tearing off all the drywall and insulation cause of it. My wife developed asthma and I have respiratory issues also now.
Liquid instant tests like this with a color indicator shouldn’t be read after so long, that does vary test to test (anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours) but any results are invalid and inaccurate at the least. Most accurate results should be read within the first two minutes. When lab results came back and confirmed high levels of black mold, prove my point and if anyone relied on what it looked like afterwards they might not take their problem as seriously as it needed to be
Agreed, those 'test kits' seemed rather useless as they didn't even show any line for Stachybotrys at all. So if someone got the same result after 5 minutes (like it said on the box) they would get a false sense of security and maybe even start scraping it off believing it to be harmless but suddenly find themselves breathing in a cloud of toxic mold.
The lab results on the other hand showed definite results with extreme concentrations of Stachybotrys.
Also, notice how he said that those test kits were "relatively ... inexpensive" while stating that a mold inspector varied from a couple hundred dollars up towards a thousand. However, considering that this one company has a patented technology; those kits might still be quite expensive when a test in a lab may actually be cheaper (I believe it's around $25 plus $30 for a priority fee) but simply takes a bit longer for the results. He did not say anything regarding the fees of a lab test; only that the mold inspector would be expensive. And even if that little test shows Stachybotrys you will still need to get the mold inspector and the lab tests; especially for an insurance claim. So in the end it would cost even more.
Where can you buy the test kits?
Amazon
how do you test for mold behind the walls, behind cabinets. not the mold you can see but potential unseen mold.
Punch a hole through the wall allowing access and use the test kit. Retrieve home kit by punching another hole beside the first hole and pull the kit out.
So would the furniture in the room ALSO be contaminated with mold even though they are not showing discoloration ?

less harmful , but still harmful

So the home mold kit does not work...
Please, could you give me a contact? I was thinking to send you few pictures- we have black mold on the window silicone with spine web like looking structure around. I need to check for mold we discovered in our house and here is not mold test kit in the market "Belgium". Thank you.
Silicone is relatively easy to remove and replace. If it around the window sill you may need new windows. Old windows can have water leaks from outside or sometimes condensatiom can form on inner surface of windows, especially in winter or when the dew point in air is low. And the temperature difference between inaide and outside is large. Consensation can drip down from the glass onto the frame or sill and cause mold growth. Definitely sounds like you need new silicone and probably a dehuhimidifier wouldn't hurt

I'm on that and I'm living in my apartment 3 years. I've been telling my landlord for 3 years also that there is an extreme moisture problem. Find dehumidifier sucks up 3 gallons every 3 days of water. My couch was ruined from stains assuming from moisture and dust, after 6 months of being in the apartment. For the past 2 years I've been going to the hospital over and over again with aspirbation and lung issues. I have aged about 30yrs and health's gone down. My son too. He's been here a year only and has severe allergies that nothing helps, chronic fatigue, depression,ECT. And 3 months ago I was given two years to live with a interstitial lung disease diagnosis.
Upon taking blood samples, mine showed dangerously high levels of Clatasporum and Penicillium exposure. Like 14.7 and 17.5 is normal, mine was 64.5 and 52.3. I see no mold but there's always a musty odor and seems like more and more our landlord is showing up wanting to check each apartment for leads, because they want to know why the water bill is so high. The septic was just replaced also. They completely remodeled the attached duplex attached to mine, so if there was water damage and mold present, shouldn't they seen it replacing drywall, windows, ECT?? And if they did, isn't that basically a health hazard.? Sure seems wrong if they don't tell people they're living in a poisonous environment. I can't afford to move, especially with a year lease. Meanwhile my son and I are living in an inhabitable building.
um yes there are extra fees as I ordered this kit and I got positive hits for all 3 molds, now in order to get the paper work from lab you have to ship out the swabs in kit and there is a $29.00 fee per sample and a $25.00 fee for rush testing. yes you get instant results but like dude in video says you don't know what kinds and or how much which is what you need to know asap so you will want to ship off for paper work from lab to show to code or other health professionals and especially if you rent and don't want the landlord to try and wiggle out of his responsibilites.
So where do we go to get faster results or is it even possible...

Also, if you take a Q-tip and swab your ac ceiling vent, how do you know if it's mold or just dirt? 🤷♀🙆♀

@@terrythomas790 it's so true. After talking to several people I decided to forget the mold inspectors. My AC guy came over so I could ask him to clean the ducts. He looked at it and said it's definitely not mold anyway.
You can put it under a microscope to check. Google what mold looks like under a microscope and compare.
My A/C guy assured me I only had dirt on my A/C vent, and I trusted him about it for a while. When it keep "growing," I began to worry. Fortunately, my degree is science-based, and I happen to have a microscope. I put a sample under my microscope, and it was definitely mold. I had my ducts professionally cleaned, the vent covers replaced, and the vents sealed off from the drywall after that. I haven't had any more mold or "dirt" come back since.

The first time I used the floor heat the floor boards buckled. At the time I didn't see mold on the boards that popped up. Not sure about the rest of them. However under the boards were 4x8 sheets of osb that the floor was nailed to. I could not look under there. How would I know if there is mold under there? Thanks

Everyone always hating on the "fungi"!
I can’t peel apart my rented home’s wall. Is it really dangerous if the black mold is inside the wall?
If the mold is contained within the walls, then it shouldn't be a problem, however buildings often shift with time and small spaces may form in between the drywall and the framing. Bugs often get inside the home this way. I rent, so I can't do much about what is hidden by the baseboards, but I sealed off my air ducts myself using duct tape under the air duct covers.
Ignore the previous posters comment. The answer is YES, it's dangerous. Even behind the wall it will grow and spread, and 100% will become airborne at some point. A dehumidifier can help slow it, hut to get rid if it it needs to be removed or sprayed with a anti mold product directly.
@@MrDmadness Don't be rude, dude. We don't need more rudeness in the world.
Additionally, no. If walls are not completely sealed and there is mold inside them, mold COULD get inside, but that is not 100% going to happen, even with time. That statement you made is absolutist and untrue. Mold is not guaranteed to enter inside if it is within the walls, but it could, depending on the conditions.
Also, are you a mold expert? No, no you're not. I'm a microbiologist, and actually black mold is not always harmful. There are two toxic “chemotypes'' of black mold (S. chartarum), one elaborating highly toxic macrocyclic trichothecenes and the other less toxic atranones and simple, but not macrocyclic, trichothecenes. Additionally, not everyone has an adverse response to the mold. So, even if black mold enters, it's not guaranteed to be dangerous. The answer is not a simple YES, as you put it.
This information is easily Googlable. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stachybotrys_chartarum
Why does mold form behind baseboards? I have the exact same situation in my home. And it's really distressing because my home was completely remodeled over the past few years. And already it's being destroyed by mold :(
Cause there's fucking moisture there and a food source where a spore ended up and inoculated that baseboard of yours
My guess is they're loose enough to allow moisture in and tight enough to keep it in. Or you have water directly dropping there. How's the caulking job where the board meets the wall? If it has pinholes than just go over it again with your finger (DAP kwikseal is my brand of choice, looks like a toothpaste tube).
Fungi eats wood obviously, and also rock and that's what drywall is made of- rock dust.
If I see black fungus behind my baseboards I would just replace the drywall. Why even test further?
Because mold spreads through spores in the air. If you improperly remove anything moldy, you are just spreading it around causing a greater risk to your health and increasing the mold in your house exponentially until you reach a point where you have one option: call in the professionals who will tell you one of two things:
1. It can be fixed but will be prohibitively expensive or
2. The house is a complete loss. You can't take ANYTHING with you or you will contaminate your next residence.
If you don't believe me, there is an episode on Forensic Files about mold contamination. The house in question was so bad it couldn't even be demolished for fear of spreading the black mold. Some of the family members that lived there are irreparably damaged mentally.

Turns out, even the previous renters both developed lung issues from the mold. They lived there a long time but finally moved out. Shortly after, one of them was diagnosed with lung cancer and died. My friend sued the landlord, and of course her attorney included this evidence about the previous tenants. She won the case, because the landlord knew about the issue and did not fix it or inform my friend before they moved in. Your attorney would need to hear about your specific situation to better guide you.
Every woman here knew which one was positive. Lol😂
strictly speaking to the test strip. Read within 5 minutes or (per product instruction) and know that how ever faint the line is- It is still a line. Faint is sometimes nearly impossible to see making you doubt that it exists. The line appears based on the reagents used. The manufacturers' ability to buy high-end reagent chemicals which results in stronger lines and are expensive. Instant drug tests are similar and cheap or weak chemicals are imported mostly from an Asian Country. Many a person have lost freedoms and/or the rights to see their children, disqualified as a job applicant etc. due to faulty lines.
*** Always get lab results**
I did a mold test and asbestos test in my home, bold mold was present on old styform tiles no asbestos thank God, but the air test showed
Rhodotorula spp, Aspergillus spp, Alternaria spp, Cladosporium spp, and Penicillium spp, also yeast spp this is just in on room of the house, it was an indoor pouch, with wooden walls and carpet, the land lord is removing the ceiling tiles but not the wood underneath them he only removed a portion of the one wall that had black mold, he used a spray called kill mold and he will paint over it he didn't replace the insulation , I already suffer from asthma, copd and have oxygen, so yes he is treating the black but all other molds are airborne, so would they be present in the house, and how do i know that there is no other black mold behind wall paper or carpets, what is the best way to treat the 6 other molds that showed up, to do an air test in ever room is very expensive, and its up to test it, i have to buy the kit then pay 40 dollars to send to a lab, I noticed too you have percents on each mold present in a report, i have no percents of how much is present and floating around the rest of the house, I have young children between the ages 3 to 7 in my house and do not want them to get sick, the mold inspection, just list the 6 molds and what each mold can do to you,
Ask landlord to release u from lease and move
@@storyandasong that is easier said than done, especially when the mould is being ignored like it is not dangerous. These rental units are slums and the health inspectors do not do their jobs right because judges, lawyer's politicians own houses like this. They don't give a rats ass about our health, as long as they get money.
Mold is often present in the air from the outside air and comes in whenever you open a door or window. These molds are generally not harmful, and there are thousands of different species. However, if you have allergies, it can definitely be a problem. There's really no way to tell if mold is behind your baseboards, behind the wallpaper, in the A/C ducts, under the carpet, or elsewhere in your home unless you get a sample from those surfaces. Mold in the air in low amounts is usually attributed to outside contamination. If it's in high amounts, that's when I'd worry it's actually coming from inside the home. Since your test didn't show the amount present, that means it was not a quantitative test, and it's not giving you enough information. There's no way to know the concentration unless that is including in the report, and it seems like this was the cheapest test available. More expensive tests will tell you the quantity of molds present. In low amounts that are just coming from outside air, usually using air purifiers that filter mold are good at keeping allergy symptoms at bay.
So was there black mold?
