It's amazing to see how well people take care of stuff in Japan and how neat and tidy these thrift stores are. In the Netherlands thrift stores are for 95% filled up with used garbage.
Had to laugh when you said you nearly didn't show the lemon sour sign because you were thinking of buying it, because I saw it and was pleading for you to focus on it because it looked so cool and absolutely the kind of dumb impulse buy I'd make. Such a cool store
I work at a pawn shop and go to a lot of second hand markets in my area. Seeing those clean kitchen appliances makes me wanna cry. Everything is so nice and clean
I'm really amazed at how clean and well-organized everything is, especially at those prices. That's so cool! I've yet to find something comparable here in the Midwest US
Not sure where you live in the Midwest, but I live in the Chicagoland area and there's lots of thrift/resale stores similar to this. If anything, the prices in this Japanese thrift store are a bit on the high side compared to places I've been to lol.
These videos are always such a treat to watch! I could get lost in a store like this for hours upon hours. But if I had to pick just a few things to buy, it would be a couple of the plates I saw, and a few of those signs. I want things I can see or use every day!
I always love your thrift store videos. I'd never get to see all this cool stuff if it wasn't for you, Norm (I'm sure a lot of people do similar videos... but I think you were the first person I saw doing it)
I am an antiques gal through and through, I would have loved to see the antiques they may have had, but also the porcelain items, glass and decor period. Either way, this is a fabulous place, a gold mine! Thank you! ♥♥♥
I think I'd be overwhelmed with stuff I didn't know I really wanted until seeing it! Being a hobbyist for many years, I'd be looking particularly for Tamiya branded items that are rare or discontinued, plastic kits, RC car kits, parts and options. I guess something like a Hobby Off store might best be suited for this? Love your thrift store videos Norm!
Really long shot, but the original Bubble Bobble and Legend of Kage. Also, vintage kimono, yukata, and obi. Possibly Cardcaptor Sakura and other figures, stickers, pins. I have a love of ceramics/pottery and classic/historic furniture and chests too. DEEP TROUBLE is how I view these shops. 😅 🫣 💜✌️🐦
Thank you so much for the amazing video!! I always wanted to go to Japan to shop, but im still young, so your videos really make me look forward to visiting one day. Keep up the amazing work as always, Norm!!
Great video of a really fantastic thrift store. I would probably grab a rice cooker because I need one. And I would more than likely but some game cards just to feed my addiction, Once you came back down to the first floor you neglected to give us a close up of that plane you spotted from above. I feel that would have been worth a look. Loved the video. Great job.
Do I need a Minion fridge?... No! Do I want it?...Yes! I'd find a place for it.😂 That place is overwhelming. There were so many things you passed by that I would have bought. I'm glad you got Emilio a friend.🤖
The fact that you can find such a variety of items, all in fairly good condition, is spectacular. You could easily furnish a new apartment, if need be, at a decent price. Glad you got the robot. Does it have a radio in it, or something else?
16:28 The Minion fridge is a cosmetic fridge. Some cosmetics apparently work best cold. I found out about this while looking for mini food fridges. The most logical place to put it is in your room
Kita-Ayase mentioned! I`ve lived here for about a year now but I hadn`t heard about this place yet, I might give it a visit next week. Adachi is such a great place, it`s a shame most people don`t know about it
Awe man, that gorgeous little stand with the hexagon drawers. That was beautiful and I would have snapped that up if it was in a local thrift store in my area. So pretty.
Am Canadian. Can confirm that, outside of clothing, the majority of the stuff in thrift stores are well-used. In some cases, there have been shoppers who damage items even further, mostly electronics. You can still find some gems, though. For example, I found a small collection of vintage cameras that were in decent condition.
Used in Japan means Like-New. I import lots of used books and toys from Japan and they are always immaculate. They take a lot of care and pride in their stuff. Even 80's and 90's stuff looks remarkable.
I love places that look like that on the outside! Usually the best place to find something you didn't know you didnt need but fall in love with❤ real alcohol in a thrift store?? And you can buy frames for most style of puzzles (im a puzzle nerd [dissectologist] 😝) Globes tend to be in thrift/junk stores because they were a sign of refinement/everyone had one in the 70s/80s/used for school projects/gift from a family member who either did or did not like you
I had one of those omni-bots when I was in my early 20's - it used cassette tapes and you could program it by 'recording' the movements from the remote control onto a blank tape and then play it's program back. I kept it in immaculate condition for years (even had the original box) - lasted all of 30 minutes when I gave it to my brother for his kids (they got so much stuff they didn't appreciate/value things.) The store looks awesome - I'd spend way too much time and money if I wen there.
Love these adventures Norm. I guess as a Tourist I honestly am interested in that sign you pointed out and the Asahi poster.. but if I were to move there and they make sure everything is working I’d definitely be on a rice cooker and some appliances. This place seems like it has a great selection.
A bit late but, fantastic video, coming to japan soon so I might go to this store. A lot of people think second hand stores are amazing in Japan but theres fantastic used stores all around the world you just have to look for them.
I feel giddy every time I go into Japanese thrift shops. In local shops here, I usually make a beeline for the toys, but I also will go through the home stuff for organizers and things. But if I find a gacha machine, particularly the small/table top one, I'm buying that.
I like places like this. I collect those little Tomica cars. I also like real Japanese kitchen knives. So I would look for those two things right away. Lots of interesting items in there.
There’s so much that i would love to look at and take home but the number one thing that you showed that i really really want is that huge magnum/jeroboam of Carbon - as an F1 fan…that one is GOLD…its Japanese GP branded and was only available from 2017-2019 with that F1 branding.
Cool Shop ... Just Surprised the TV prices are so High even for thrift shop's ..Compared to here in Ontario .. I get Mini TV's (15-27 inch) for $15-20 CDN and Big Screen for $50-70 CDN.... Awesome Show thanks for Sharing this Gem of a Store!!
The vibe of the store is pretty cool and chill, but definitely for somebody looking for a bit of everything. I might still just drop by seeing the place is only 1/2 hour from Akihabara.
i would definitive have had a longer stay in the kitchen stuff section, since i need a new rice cooker, but in a size Cherry got. But those are difficult to find in Germany in a shop!
That CARBON champagne bottle is exactly like the ones they spray on Formula 1 podiums these days. Imagine if that's actually from a Japanese Grand Prix... in fact, I think the gold label on it says Formula 1! Maybe it is!
Amazing video. Definitely checking this place out. And, if your studio is in Akihabara, I should buy you a coffee when I get there in a couple weeks. I owe you for all the inspiration you've given me. I wouldn't have gone back, if not for you... and greatest experience of my life.
I would have picked up the Candy Candy toy set (in the rack above the Omnibot). Also, we have a Sega Mark III version of that loose controller over the Twin Famicom (it also exists for the MSX), and it’s actually pretty good!
There are also those "NEWS" used furniture shops, they look similar in big ware houses. one of them around my place has stuff like old Coca Cola tables/chairs, old Japanese VHS of stuff like Mel Brook's Dracula, and a huge wood-carving wall-sculpture thing of The Last Supper lol

I need to know whats in that "Hyper Hobby" Star Wars box lol. I've got the video on in the background while I'm finishing up work and saw a Stormtrooper out of the corner of my eye lol... And I should have waited for the end of the video. Tiny black Storm Trooper is kinda adorable
