This song touched my heart - I felt the emotion in this song, I could hear it in their voices that this one was for Ben and his father, and every one of them sang it for them.
I cried at the end, not necessarily because the performance was outstanding, but because you could see the tears on Ben's face, and the entire group respectfully took off their hats in remembrance of Ben's dad. Friggin tears
Lost my dad to lung cancer in 2004. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Know that he's looking down on me everyday. Ben your dad is proud of you and is looking down on you! Believe that. I felt the emotions in this song. Thanks for this version Vocal Point!
My mother passed away about four weeks before this aired. I started crying just from the previews shown after the previous weeks show. I've been a fan of Vocal Point since the beginning and my heart goes out to Ben and anyone else who has experienced losing someone close to them.
I just really loved to listen to that they are really amazing and your dad is so proud of you for making us all cry like that thanks alot:( We all love you.
I feel like Ben was singing this song in a different key than the rest of the group. It wasn't good, but the emotion was beautiful, especially when his voice started shaking, coming out of the bridge. It wasn't my favorite, technically, but it was one of the more authentic performances and I'm glad they were able to move forward because the rest of their performances were good.
Awe i love this and hate seeing people crying so please stop the criticism. They worked hard in singing their parts. But its a tribute would you like if someone was criticize your videos.
@mauidude57 If you've ever listened to both the P. Diddy and the Sting and the Police version, you should recognize that this arrangement is a lot closer to the P. Diddy song. Basically, this fulfilled the hip-hop requirement because it kept the vibe of the P. Diddy version. As Shaun kind of hinted, it had the "soul: of a hip-hop song.
@mauidude57 pentatonix's version of love lockdown wasnt hip hop sounding either, and it was amazing, the theme for the week is a hip hop song, doesnt mean they have to do it like the original, they just have to say the lyrics to a hip hop song
@9kmurphy I lost my grandpa 9 years ago and every year in the 2 first months of the year I still miss him. I didn't think u should have done this song but when I look at the video nightly before I go to bed, u did an awesome job. Find me on Facebook if u would like to talk. I am under Dee Dague.
@Mrduckbear11: It is interesting that people from Australia and Britain don't usually have an accent when they sing, but if you listen to people sing from Ireland for some reason you can usually hear their accent.
@AIReject have a heart. Ben just lost his father. Of course he will cry. Also, they could have all been close to Ben's father. They are such a tight knit group, that it wouldn't surprise me. This is the only time they have had problems, and it was only pitch. Have a heart. Plus, from experience being LDS, we are very emotional....I don't know why but most LDS people I have met are very emotional, and I'm very emotional and I'm LDS.
Singers from Britain/Austrailia don't have an accent when they sing b/c the vowels they sing are usually flattened, which sounds like the mainstream American accent.
It was a good rendition, but I wish they'd have made it more like hip hop. Still, they've been such vocal chameleons in their other performances, and considering the circumstances, I guess they earned the liberty they took here.
I don't think they should have done that song just look at Ben at the end of that song, I even got emotional watching it because I miss my Grandfather that was my all time favourite. :'(
For those saying it was “pitchy “ you have to understand the validity to the situation ( Ben just lost his dad the performance beforehand ) hence why they also took off their fedoras ( cap)
one thing I am trying to understand that this was hip hop week and this version was not even close to being hip hop. I understand that the performance was great but other vocal groups got bad ratings from the judges for not being hip hop enough:) Just wondering if all the emotions got to them......we will see next week
@AIReject Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I can personally overlook this one week of pitch problems because it's never been a problem for the group before (or after, so far). Also, the emotion they put into the song was just beautiful... it wasn't great pitch-wise when they started crying, but it was still incredibly touching.
@6torigirl1 Falsely accusing of what? That they had pitch problems because they were crying and made it so that they couldn't harmonize? It's OBVIOUS that that's what happened! I'm just different from most of these comments because I'm not emotionally moved by bad singing, for any reason.
@6torigirl1 Right. They were bad on this performance, when they started crying, because the pitches broke down and they couldn't sing well. I don't see how this is even something that could be argued. Though you'll notice I never said anything about them being "horrible" but only that it got really bad when they started crying. Which is true.
@6torigirl1 Yeah. If you can find a single point that I ever said that Vocal Point as a whole was horrible because they were awful on THIS song, I will give you money. Given that they also performed the BEST on medley night, I see no way you can accuse me of calling them horrible.
@AIReject the only reason why they had pitch problems was from the crying. Even the judges noticed that. They commended them for doing this song though. So you're just being a jerk at this moment in time. They are super contenders, and honestly....the group to beat.
@AIReject I never said you called them horrible as a whole. You just called them horrible on this performance, which it wasn't. It was that one part with the pitch. Anyway, it's not like you think they are the best anyway. Let's just stop this before it gets into another argument.
@6torigirl1 Yes. I am being a jerk for stating that they were off pitch, when you yourself just said that they were. I don't care why they were off pitch. If they couldn't get through the song without crying and screwing up the pitch, they shouldn't have done it. It's laughable to call them the group to beat when Pentatonix, Darthmouth Aires, and Afro Blue are all still there. And not a single one of their performances so far has been better than Delilah's Grenade. So get off your high horse.
@6torigirl1 I don't care about WHY the sound they're making is hurting my ears. If they couldn't sing it without sounding bad, they shouldn't have sung it.
@freshmeat1112 If I had to do that, I wouldn't have sung a song that would make me sound bad! If I were singing a song for my dead father, I'd be sure that I could do it without me OR the people singing with me breaking down and crying in the middle of it, because I wouldn't want to represent the memory of my father with a poorly done song.
@ilindah I respect the fact that you may not like it, but he fact that you're going as far as cursing and calling it "awful" is just disrespectful on your part. Yes there were some tuning issues here and there, but musically other than that there was nothing wrong with it. Can you PLEASE enlighten me and tell me WHY you think this cover is sk "awful"?
@ilindah It's not that awful. Respect Ben's dad and please, if you can, delete this comment. Click the down arrow next to the reply and click remove. This performance wasn't their best, but they did it because of Ben's dad.
Ben should not have been in the lead. Period. VP should have been in the finals. This song was horrible as was the Ain't too Proud to Beg. Otherwise, they may have made finals. imo
Now that's how making a song your own works. Ben sang that so beautifully and with such emotion I know his dad would've been so proud of him.
Best talent show by far. The judges actually know what theyre talking about and the talent is overwhelming!
Kristine Silmaro true
This was lovely! ! It reminds me of my mother. She passed on a little more than 4 years ago. God bless all those who have lost loved ones.
How could anyone even dislike this? This means a lot more than being just a song.
Lost my dad to lung cancer in 2004. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Know that he's looking down on me everyday. Ben your dad is proud of you and is looking down on you! Believe that. I felt the emotions in this song. Thanks for this version Vocal Point!
I cried when I saw this because I felt a flood of compassion for them. God save them!!
Freaking amazing made me tear up! Good job ben...No fantastic job!! You could feel emotions flowing out with each word they sang! Perfect.
I loveeeed it! The pitch problems were bearable for me to the point where it sounds great!
I recently lost my grandmother..this makes me and my mom tear up a little...
Wow Ben really does have an amazing voice.
I love his voice :( it's too beautiful.
very beautiful... makes me cry...
Ross, the second guy, and Ben's voices are the best!
I feel like Ben was singing this song in a different key than the rest of the group. It wasn't my favorite, technically, but it was one of the more authentic performances and I'm glad they were able to move forward because the rest of their performances were good.
I really like this laid back version. this was amazing
Awe i love this and hate seeing people crying so please stop the criticism. They worked hard in singing their parts. But its a tribute would you like if someone was criticize your videos.
amazing and heartfelt. perfect because it was authentic and vulnerable even though the notes were not exactly precise.
Thanks for representing well guys, powerful song. Proud of you!
Ben Murhpy is the only Vocal Point member that have UA-cam Channel
I LOVE SIS SONG AND U GUYS DID WONDERFUL
Great, perfect !!!
Miss you B.I.G !!
loved Ben's voice as the lead

these guys are bomb!
this is better than the original and i am suprised they were able to pull this off cuz of the emotial toll it had on them
@9kmurphy I lost my grandpa 9 years ago and every year in the 2 first months of the year I still miss him. I didn't think u should have done this song but when I look at the video nightly before I go to bed, u did an awesome job. Find me on Facebook if u would like to talk. I am under Dee Dague.

Aww i almost cried when i saw him cry
funny...this is their lowest "scoring" performance but it's the one I just can't stop watching ... Ben's face at 4:10 is utterly sublime
I did have to laugh at the casual use of the word "reverent." Utahn in the house baby!
You Should Hear him swing hymns! He's Awesome!
I cried when i saw this
cara demasi nunca vi algo assim, vlw demais

@trona55 I completely agree. It's my favorite. They brought something in this performance that I doubt anyone but Vocal Point could bring.
@SsraepsS think about it. vocal point is a group of MORMONS, from byu, which is a MORMON school. hope that helped
I cry when I listen. Not because of the emotion, but when a few of them start crying, it messes up the harmony so bad that it hurts my ears.
OK, maybe I'm biased, but I didn't hear the pitch problems they were talking about.
R.I.P Notorious B.I.G.
@masterkayaki Sean Combs's pseudonym in 1997 (the year the track was released) was Puff Daddy. I don't understand your comment.
im crying
@gfunk449 ~
I think they did amazing. I know they were off key but look at Ben at the end of it, that's y his friend put his hand on his back.
Singers from Britain/Austrailia don't have an accent when they sing b/c the vowels they sing are usually flattened, which sounds like the mainstream American accent.
I remember this being the theme song of the waiking dead season 1
To me there were no pitch problems and this is such a beautiful song I'll get the iTune. Call me ignorant, I don't care!!
I really love Sara Barrelses she is so fun to listen to
*Hugs for Ben and his family... and hugs for everyone who's ever lost someone*
Consisted that Ben lost his father a few weeks before this. That's why he is EMOTIONAL during this song
definitely pitchy but very sweet
For those saying it was “pitchy “ you have to understand the validity to the situation ( Ben just lost his dad the performance beforehand ) hence why they also took off their fedoras ( cap)
Bunch of gorgeous men in fedoras?
And they can sing?
Day made :)
was Hayden Panettiere in the crowd?
sorry... i meant... Please DONT stop singing! _l,,/

i cried cuz i recently lost my brother :,(
HIII!!
Ben Murphey I am so sorry that your dad died but I am sure he is watching over you
@Jakewejo once they take off their hats they start to get a little flat about 3:30
they made hip hop sound like '90s boyband, hahaha.
@deviote Are we to assume he's not, and the production crew and members of the group are being dishonest? Yes, Ben is a baritone.
@6torigirl1 Falsely accusing of what? That they had pitch problems because they were crying and made it so that they couldn't harmonize? It's OBVIOUS that that's what happened! I'm just different from most of these comments because I'm not emotionally moved by bad singing, for any reason.

Did they won this competition ?
Nope but i want them to be 2nd but they just in 5th
1:54 for any of you looking for instant replay.
Ben has an amazing body
@AIReject no. I understand they had pitch problems. I just think you're falsely accusing that they are horrible because of it.
@tandumwarelephant The first, I do believe that they are not saved, and that mormonism can save no one.
Ben could go solo and make a fortune if he wanted to!
@6torigirl1 Yeah. If you can find a single point that I ever said that Vocal Point as a whole was horrible because they were awful on THIS song, I will give you money. Given that they also performed the BEST on medley night, I see no way you can accuse me of calling them horrible.
i'm glad ben folds got it. bens understand.

@otrilovethem I was just about to say, ahaha. I accidentally tagged you at first, then deleted the comment to tag the other person
i thought it was suposed to sound a lil bit like the real song because it sound nothing like it
hahaha what do we know about hip hop.....(silence)
@AIReject I never said you called them horrible as a whole. You just called them horrible on this performance, which it wasn't. It was that one part with the pitch. Anyway, it's not like you think they are the best anyway. Let's just stop this before it gets into another argument.
They had some pitch problems... SO WHAT! Kristen freakin Chenoweth has even had pitch problems when she cries. It's almost expected.
@6torigirl1 Yes. I am being a jerk for stating that they were off pitch, when you yourself just said that they were. I don't care why they were off pitch. If they couldn't get through the song without crying and screwing up the pitch, they shouldn't have done it. Ben should not have been in the lead. Period. VP should have been in the finals. This song was horrible as was the Ain't too Proud to Beg. Otherwise, they may have made finals. imo
Janet Pirate you completely missed the point of them singing this song. Miles over your head.
The Ain't too proud to beg's lead should be Mckay, Keith, and Jake
calling him puff daddy automatically points out that you are so not down with hip hop
the arrangement just didn't have the well-balanced intricacies of the other groups. i got tired of too many suspensions.
The more emotional they got the worst their harmonies were. Sorry, but NO!
Emotion over perfection
They have great voice but I didn’t like this version at all
Please stop singing!!
Jasmine Tonumaipe'a *Please stop commenting!*
OMG... I meant to say 'Please DON'T stop singing"!!! SO SORRY!!
Best comment 201* what year was this comment made again?
holy shit.
awful.
