    Thanks for the help, good to see that there're some teachers out there willing to fully explain things when in relation to statistics.

    nothing like a good old-fashioned teacher. Teachers nowadays don't explain anything, they only tell you, read this and that and then they show you a youtube video.

    This is probably one of the best boxplots with outliers teaching ever. It super simple and easy, I didnt really learn this in class when we did but this video was nice and slow so you can learn super easily.

    Dear teacher, even though your presentation looks less fancy to other videos, I really get all the main points of construction of a plot box. I finally understand the end points are the largest and the smallest numbers, except if they are the outliers so the next largest or next smallest numbers will become the endpoints. It seems no textbook explaining this matter clearly as you do. you are an excellent teacher! (I'm 50 in age but learning statistics!)

    This makes me want to cry... the reason why is i paid $0.00 for this lesson and it has been so informal and easy to follow and learn. I have dumped sooooo much money into this POS college i attend and i leave every week pissed off frustrated banging my head off the wall and more broke each time i go. Im not sure if its because its college and the teachers are just lazy or not as qualified, maybe i need to upgrade to university, not sure, but this has been a great lesson! Very clear understanding, and well drawn out going through all the steps, my college has seemed to become dependent upon "Publisher Slides" and they just speed click through them and end class 2hours and 10mins early each week. Maybe since its 2016 we could do all our classes from youtube, rather than me burning up all my fuel, and paying hundreds of $$$ for a parking pass each semester to leave angry and confused, at the very least i could just stay at home for that! Anyways Wonderful Video !

    So much better than the way that I learned... i.e. finding quartile by multiplying .25 or .75 (respectively) to the n+1 value in order to find the position and then, in the case of an even subset, taking the difference of the middle pair multiplied by some decimal number determined in the first step in order to plot an exact quartile number...
    I realize that what I learned is the technically correct formula that will always give the large number, and I realize this is necessary in working with a large data set, but the above approach is just so much more intuitive to grasp the overall point and the terminology without getting confused. Maybe it's just because I'm more of a spacial learner, but I really appreciate this style of teaching the basic system. I wish my instructor were so enlightened. Establishing a foundation first is certainly the best way to teach. I wish I had stumbled on this sooner.

    @Victor:
    1) the 5 key numbers we have from the box plot are: lowest value, lower quartile, median, upper quartile, largest value
    2) the lower quartile (Q1) is the 25th percentile. That is, the value in which 25% of the data are at or below that value. The upper quartile (Q3) is the 75th percentile
    3) the Interquartile range (IQR) is the upper quartile - lower quartile
    4) an outlier is any data value less than Q1 - 1.5*IQR or any value greater than Q3 + 1.5*IQR
    5) the key ways we mark the 5 values is somewhat dependent on whether or not you have outliers. Q1 is marked by the start of the box, the median is marked by a vertical line in the box, Q3 is marked by the ending of the box. The lowest value that is not an outlier is marked by the start of the horizontal line on the left side of the box that connects to the box, the largest value that is not an outlier is marked by the end of the horizontal line on the right side of the box. Outliers are marked with asterisks

    • @JosepiThe13th

      Süleyman Qafarlı The box shows us the overall average data, and the lines or "whiskers" show us other data that are not part of the overall average but are close around it.
