I’m a teacher and it’s true that no matter how small we get paid, we still prioritize what makes our students happy. We’d buy school supplies, treat them, buy prizes etc.. specially if you’re deployed to areas where students could barely buy their snacks during breaks. That’s why, even if it hurts, we have family that rests on us so we have to apply overseas and leave our previous schools that we first loved. Even working abroad is challenging, money is a bit higher but challenging to manage. So we still have to work harder just so we can save. So, for my co teachers out there, i know this is a big challenge that we are currently facing a pandemic and some school don’t pay during summer, but hang on. Soon, you’re gonna get what you deserve be it intrinsically or extrinsically.

The least the students could do is respect them and smile at them whenever they are walking past them. Idk what other people think but being a teacher is one of the most hardest jobs in the world. You might not take my comment seriously but teacher's need to spend most of their time marking your homework and explain the mistakes you did. My mom is a teacher, she has to wake up really early to get ready and go to school, then she stays for like 2-3 extra hours to clean up and get ready for the next day. When she gets home she only has time to clean and do even more work, she never has time to spend with me and my siblings. Teachers don’t make money over summer as well, which is also a struggle
I guess it depends on what subject they teach and what school they are at.
Still, most public school teachers get weekends off, summers off (but probably have to get another job to help get by through the summer) and a ton of vacation time throughout the school year. What other job gives you like 3 days off for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks off for Christmas and New Year's, plus snowdays, mid-winter break, and a week for Easter?

A U.S. History/Government teacher would probably have an easier time planning lessons than a math or chemistry teacher would. I mean half of that stuff you can just throw on videos for the students to learn from. I remember back in 9th grade we spent like 2 weeks just watching The Men That Built America. Much better than reading some boring textbook

Some schools parents pay others teachers pay. In my school student's payed for school supplies and teachers payed for books to read.
I used to have to pay about $100 per son for elementary school supplies. 6 packs of Kleenex, 12 rolls of paper towels, 10 packs sanitizing wipes, a case of printer paper etc. We usually couldn't afford all they were asking for. Some teachers were really rude about it. I could barely pay for my two sons to eat lunch because we were $27 over the max to get reduced/free lunch. I know teachers don't earn much, but some parents don't either. We had one teacher that called us out after we gave her 4 bags of stuff for her classroom. It wasn't enough according to her. We were one of the few who did try and she put us down. I know there are amazing teachers. We voted to increase the school bond one year. It was suppose to go to classrooms. What we saw was new furniture for the principals office and district office while the kids went without.
