      I only ask this as as question. I understand the used market, being a better choice. What would it take to make a good rider out of it?
      Upgrade the euro, better tires, rims, shifters and gearing , were would the bike be??? Many years ago I rode a “Sears Freespirit” many thousands of miles. It’s only real flaw was weight, and I still miss the center pull brakes!!! I’ve ridden a Cannondale R1000, and now on my third Trek Madone.
      Racing is a light weight sport, can that heavy weight be shaved off the frame. Realistically to have a good rider, Or is it already a good rider? To the none racing class.

    • @Penalist
      @Penalist Рік тому +5

      There is a fair risk that after you have upgraded practically everything, the bike is still unpleasantly heavy and that the frame breaks in the near future. Ergo: buy something else.

    It appears Norcal and GCN have both left out a critical test at which the Eurobike would excel, and which is an established genre on UA-cam; riding the bike off a dock into a lake (with or without a jump ramp). The Cervelo could not be ridden off the dock in good conscience, while I would predict full send on the Eurobike.

How about selling the EuroBike to someone, then actually do a deep dive into the 2nd hand market and give yourself a tight budget. Lets use 1250$ or maybe 1000$ and buy a bike, and then see how you perform. I know it is a lot of money, but the amount of money you can make with the content should be spectacular. Especially if you upgrade that bike "Down the line" with some "speed upgrades".

    Strip the Euro bike down to the frame and rebuild with something like retro shimano 105 then see how it performs.

    I wonder how much of the difference are the tires.

      When I upgraded my tires and tubes to GP5000 and latex, from whatever stock tire my budget 2013 Specialized Allez came with, I easily saved 30-40w around 20mph. The difference was huge.
      Retest with matching tires!

    Those bikes are made in China. I may be wrong but that same facility seems to make a ton of different brands and they sell them in Amazon. I bought one some years back. Mine was branded “Lamborghini”… yes you read that correctly “Lamborghini”. It was not that bad. I put roughly 2k miles on the bike. I only changed the tires after 1k miles or so and breaks. Yes, it was heavy. But it did what I needed and it saved me a ton of money.

    It's all about branding- names.
    Just like the iPhone - only takes a few cents to make but they upcharge hundreds of dollars.
    If you're not into racing and just tryna get a decent workout/commute just buy a few hundred dollar frame and buy some decent parts. Boom fully functional and reliable bike.

    I would love to see the same race with the soloist vs. eurobike but with some upgrades done to it. Like better tires, a better groupset like a used 105 or smth like that, frame and wheels stay the same tho. That would be a banger of video

      the eurobike weighs 35lbs or 16kg so you would need antigravity upgrades to make it usable

    • @esenel92
      @esenel92 Рік тому

      Better groupset is probably not even necessary per-se.
      A tourney crankset with 48-50 teeth, and some cheap chinese road shifters which might total like $70-100 total and you won't be running out of gears that easy.
      These bikes are crap for experienced riders, but can be good for those starting out, as it leaves them budget to change things as they see fit. Most people starting out don't need high gear ratios yet, and have no clue what they like or don't like. So as long as the frame and wheels are ok, having plenty of money left and a cheap bike to experiment on can be a huge advantage as well. Not to mention that maintenance is cheap on this kinda stuff.
