- In this Civilnet interview, former Turkish Member of Parliament Garo Paylan provides an insider's perspective on the rapidly deteriorating human rights situation and democratic backsliding under President Erdogan's increasingly authoritarian rule. Paylan, a prominent Armenian-Turkish minority voice, offers insights on the elusive path towards reconciliation between Armenians and Turks, the high-stakes implications of opening the Armenia-Turkey border, and the legacy of his friend Hrant Dink, the slain Armenian-Turkish journalist.

He sounds like a Armenian Parliament.
Paylan has a very refined mind… 👍👍👍
If opening the border depends on Erdogan, then why you are giving this interview to Armenian media and not to Turkish media, to convince Turkey?
Also why should Trump help us, what will Armenia give him in return?
Armenias location alone is good for US plus Russians will not have any power in Caucus
@Josephsfafsassfd I would like the journalist to ask such questions. Russians have much power in AZ, but US and Israel are fine with that.
@@edikmarina Israel yes but US they got there own interests
@@Josephsfafsassfd Israel is US in the region. They are like a province of US. And they have already bases in AZ. So what can Armenia offer US in return, since they already have the location in AZ through Israel And they have military in Georgia too.
@@edikmarina Russia will have no access in the region at all and Georgias relations are kind complicated because of there new government and Russia is fake friend we cannot work with them anymore
As a Turk, I care about democracy. But we are people who work and pay taxes to the state. It saddens me that a person who gives interviews like an Armenian officer lives a rich life with the taxes I pay in TurkeyYou are a politician of Armenian origin in Turkey. The problems of Armenian citizens living in Turkey should be important to you. The strategies of the Armenian Army should not concern you.
@andreqasparian1008 no mr delusional you don't get paid based on your voters all get paid the same. Most of his voters don't even pay their utility bills, let alone taxes.
@andreqasparian1008 well you lack basic ethics that's why you have difficulty in understanding what I say. You can't get your money from a nation you're working against. He can't talk about Armenia as "we" and continue to get Turkish taxpayers money. Whoever voted for him is Turkish and garo is stepping against Turkish benefits. Got it? I can't dumb it down anymore.
14:21 so you left Turkiye and you're holding a Turkish passport also are you getting your pension from Turkish Grand National Assembly?
yea His retirement salary will be paid with the taxes of the Turkish people for the rest of his life, and his children will partially benefit from it as well
@gokhanmurat396 such a shame but for honorable people not garo
@@NeskrdgliWhy isn’t he honourable elaborate?
@@NeskrdgliI would say it doesn’t matter the Turkish republic was founded on blood money.
Arminin take it easy 😢
Thank you so much for this conversation. Dear Garo, hopefully you are safe!!!
13:32 so according to you if a country invades us we shouldn't fight them back because it's massacre and according to the presenter it is genocide? So I assume that would be ok if Azerbaijani army invaded Yerevan you shouldn't do the genocide. Right? Hahhahhah so delusional
I assume you didn’t watch the whole video. He said it himself, Armenia needs to be strategical rather than emotional. We can’t expect Turkey to recognise the genocide when they’re nation is led by a dictatorship, but the chance is bigger if one day they become a democratic state.
@mrpeperoni2519 dictator or Democrat you can't recognize something that didn't happen. I assume you forget the facts.
@@NeskrdgliEven the Turkish state says something did happen they just lower the death toll. Either way I would loss my fate in Turkey too if the people are like you.
@SoghomonTehlirian1915 definitely we accept sth happened and keep the death roll real not according to your hallucinations. All of agree expelling of rioting armenian gangs happened it was not genocide. In fact, Armenians in the hopes of creating a country killed kurds and Azerbaijanis in Jilolough, and Ottomans had to send troops to stop it. Your lies aren't facts no matter how loud you shout them.
@@mrpeperoni2519 we will never recognize the so called "genocide"

How can a retired Turkish parliament member call Armenia as "we"? Does he serve Armenia or Turkey?
Beleive or not he is enemy of Türkiye as well Ermenia. He is puppet of west.
people can be from two countries, nationality and ethnicity dont have to be from the same country.
Very good convo. This is what ive been saying, US Armenians can easily convince Trump , but you only do that if you either pay him directly or introduce another partnership or benefit for him, for example by helping the oldest Christian nation in the world you can be know in history as the savior of all Christian people Mr. Trump.
Didn't the Turks just help the Azeris destroy the Armenian democracy of Artsakh? Don't the Turks still illegally occupy the State of Armenia (Western Armenia)? "Leveraging international pressure to reform", not break up Nazi Turkey? Good luck :)
North and South, Bridges, tunnels Sisian-Khajaran highway, nothing going east and west.
Focus on our alliance North and South.
We love you very much Garo. You are great ❤
It does not seem possible for these Armenians to get better. If the diaspora, which includes Garo, does not lose its importance in Armenian politics, the situation of those living in Armenia will never get better.
No one can help Armenians, but the Armenians them self and no one can help Türkiye, but Türk's them self. Take out the 3rd parties and talk straight to each other and complemize them in the middle and make a peace for all. This will be a benefit to Armenians
The biggest problem Ermenian Diaspora...
@@kavvame They tied their whole personality to the issue, and they face no consequences for Armenian failures. They actually prefer the contsant struggle and victim mentality.
Ephesians 6:10-12
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
I am once again convinced that you are a very valuable politician for our society.
10:55 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 funny nation
Always motivating listening to Mr. Paylan , indeed nations settle on a reality that may not be righteous , and settle for mere a Just-full agreement, depends on the influence and strength of a nation this gap is minimized . The D-escalators strategy is the way forward for AR, at least for the short term , in the meantime frantic diplomacy on Trump to exert pressure on Turkey and AZ, however , would consider forging a strategic alliance with India too , China would drive Trump nuts against AR, and India sits very neutral with Putin , beyond the military and economic colab , suggest actively pursue strategic alliance with India , not just partnership !!
Lol no martsakh 😂😂
@2751; if understood your ref to ‘ martsakh’ , then no Othoman Emp , done and dusted , eventually but surely now a mere state for political Power , no more power of the State, with AZ funded to sustained a failing economy!! 🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Garo jan, I do think clerly and rationally --in spells, on & off but it happens :-D
Rubio is our best chance.
😂 😂 😂 😂 Bye bye matshkh
We Ares honoured of you Garo, love you. Türkiye'den bol selamlar..
Nope he is arminin lol
No genocide
Azeris are right
Sensible and logical statements
When USA looks away, Turks come out to play!
Mr Paylan's English has improved significantly due to his stay in the USA. Yet he still has the Turkish accent in pronounciation.
And what is your problem? Are you not willing or able to move to the USA or to improve your English? Having an accent is normal for migrants of the 1st and maybe 2nd generation. Try to speak Turkish with the Turks in Europe. Then you will hear the difference.
It is very very funny to see somebody with the name Ali commenting on the quality of English language! Very funny! Considering his own stylistics are quite clumsy!
Lol he apologised for his poor English that arminin
He is not well speaker of English, Turkish and as well Ermenian language... Like his affiliation...
