@@mongreldogproductions Your videos are pretty good! :) It's amazing how you can see so much of your big beautiful country while staying on dirt. Over here in the US that would be a lot harder.
Right up front, I've never been to Australia, but from all the things I've seen, Australia has some beautiful places for motorcycle riders to navigate and enjoy. But Australia also has some places that I would never go alone on a motorcycle, and likely not in a 4-wheeler either. It could be a death sentence. Preparedness is a must, and being resourceful sure doesn't hurt. But of all the possibilities, that "driving on the left side of the road" would be the death of me. 😂 Injuries and flat tires aside, it looked like an awesome ride. ~GREAT FOOTAGE!~

Excellent video...great views of the Outback. If that was you reading the poem...then beautifully read. One day, post bloomin Covid I will get over to Australia and ride in the Outback!. Thanks for sharing the ride! Cheers, Steve
Hi Stephen Eldridge, no, not me reciting the poem but I think the poem was relevant as that is my attitude toward my own mortality and the inevitable. Glad you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
Great video 👏🏽 22.20 - I read that poem out at my brothers funeral .... his influence inspired me to follow him onto motorcycles and is the reason I'm watching this video today. Ride safe 🙌🏽
Hi Ian, I hope I didn’t trigger any sad memories of your brothers funeral...I guess the poem is meant to celebrate life and help people heal. Glad you like the vid.
Mongrel Dog Productions - no fella, had a big line of bikes behind me on the worst motorcycling day ever....... only proper bikers would ride in those conditions so he'd have been well impressed 👌🏽
I enjoyed this video so much I watched it several times. Excellent filming and storytelling, you really capture the essence of motorcycle adventuring. My favorite part of your video is at 22:17, it really hits the soul. Thank you, I'm now a new subscriber!

Good on him for knowing his limit..........lots of silly buggers push on until they become a problem for everyone else.......I respect what he did there...
Steve, another excellent video!! Rather sad for the rider who had his first day mishap on the journey! He did stay with the support vehicle but eventually left the trip. Some great adventure out there certainly. The places you go are always fascinating and trying to get that last kilometer our of your tires, love it! Thanks for another great adventure video and keep 'em coming!
Hi Rick Poulin, yeah, sad for the Rider who had the ‘ off’. I don’t think his injuries are long term. He probably just needs to build up some confidence in the snotty stuff. Thanks for the praise about the Adventures. So much to do ; so little time.
Hi NN, glad you like the vid. It does pay to have at least one sensible Rider in the group just to keep the others in check lol. We have been REALLY fortunate here in WA with very little disruption during the pandemic because of our isolation which has allowed us to continue to explore and be nomadic. Thanks for watching.
Nice video, I remember driving on those very roads some years back. Tom Price & Mt Nameless. Total respect for the outback, you are alone out there, in the serene silence. I vividly, happily, and almost proudly remember it all; and I still can, even now. West is best.
Hi Roger Hargreaves, we are lucky here in WA. We have very few restrictions in place ATM and the State is SO big you could get lost for a long time if you wanted to. I do enjoy the harsh beauty of the Outback. Thanks for watching.
Enjoy those videos I've given up adventure riding due to injuries and hitting over 50 body can't do it anymore I'm going to miss it but I've just bought a nice sports tourer so I'm still on the road
Great trip those PAR get a ways rides becoming popular was out that way few weeks before you guys, Nice little reconnaissance on the 2021 Dessert Raid i had gear rumors of it being in Cathedral Gorge way up North? As always thanks for sharing and hope to bump into you out there one of these days.
I saw an interesting method, I think it was from FortNine, for setting a bead on a tubeless tire. He had a hose with a valve stem fitting on each end and a valve in the middle. Connect one end to each wheel and open the valve. If it doesn't work the first time, put more pressure in the good tire and try again.
Geez Ross, I dunno. It sounds like the sort of thing you’d have to practice at home to get it right. I’m not sure there would be enough ‘oomph’ to get the tyre to seal. Worth tryin’ I guess. Thanks for watching.
Thank you mate for sharing, can't wait to start driving wa, I'm all set up with my trailer, but I am in Sydney and waiting for the bloody borders to open, all the best, great video..
Hi tony pucheta, glad you like the vid. We are lucky here in WA having such a HUGE backyard to explore and very little restriction atm. Grab ya gear; let’s go!
Great videos, visited the murchason roadhouse about 10 years ago and worked on woollen Station which is local. Don't get scenery like that here in Yorkshire!
Hi JL, yeah, bit of a difference between the two regions (although I have not been to Yorkshire) and I always get drawn back to the Outback. Harsh but beautiful scenery. Glad you like the vid. Thanks for watching. 👍🇦🇺
@@mongreldogproductions next time your in the mchsn region look up David and Francis, they run wooleen Station, amazing placing with some great scenery and history. They have rooms to hire in the homestead and a few great little camp spots. I'm just checking out some of your older videos.
Hi Benny, correct. If the wind is blowing across the road we will do that to prevent getting covered in dust. We just have to make sure our movements are deliberate and obvious to the trucks or cars so that know what we are up to. Its not that uncommon. Hope you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
Next time you think you may have to set a bead, make sure you have a ratchet strap with you. Set the strap around the center of the tread and tighten. Compressing the center of the tread pushes the sidewalls out and setting the bead becomes a snap.
@@mongreldogproductions yeah which is good. Cos that bike is in Vic at present! And I suspect I'll need this amount of time to pass in order to be able to go back and collect it!! Cheers
An excellent production as always. But this one was particularly watchable. Loved the poem with the footage. More of that please. Also good to see Pieter’s Honda NC mixing it with the “real” adventure bikes. I’ve shared your video with the NC group.
Hi Honda NC750X Stuff, that bike of Pieter's really surprised me. I love the idea of a rear tyre on the front wheel. I could use some of that myself in sticky situations. Glad you like the vid.
Once again, great video, watching you for few years now, can't understand how you only have 6.4k subscribers. Guys you are missing great content, Chris, big off roader, maybe you will visit Ireland someday.
Hi Christopher Lyons, glad you like the Channel content. I guess I could promote the Channel better but I’m happy just to coast along. I’ve got no plans to visit Ireland in the near future but never say never.
Its true what the say, scratch a truck driver or tour rider and just under the surface you will find somewhat of a philosopher and a poet lurking quietly. It must be the long hours alone on the road . Gives a man time to think.
Great Video Steve. What's with all the oil drums at the side of the track at about 24.30 in the video. Love following your adventures keep them coming and be safe mate :)
Hi PB, they've started mining (something) on Lake Disappointment near the Canning Stock Route. Those drums and Truck were Avtur for a chopper LZ. Right in the middle of Bumf*** nowhere. We were hoping the mining company may have improved the roads out there but their roads were 'closed roads' and didnt help at all. Glad you like the vid(s).
Amazing footage, love the drone shows a different perspective. Great places, brings back some good memories. Sorry about Neal hope he has a speedy recovery that brought back some not so good memories. One trick re seating the bead on the tubeless tyres in case you are not aware of it. In the army I saw unimog drivers reseat the balloon tractor tyres by looping the winch cable around them. I scaled this down by using a thin ratchet strap on the 1150. Takes a couple of goes to position properly sometimes but it pushes the sidewalls out and makes it a hell of a lot easier. Thanks again for taking us along on your adventure
Hi TR, we tried that (straps) a couple of times to no avail. I had CO2 cylinders as well to try and give it that initial boost of air. In the end, it was easier to travel the ten km to the nearest Homestead in the hope they could seal it for us. Thanks for watching.
Yep it took me a few goes I will admit and I only tried it on the conties. If I had an alternative I would have used it also but I was a couple of hundred ks from a compressor. I also tried Over-pressuring the front tyre and connecting it with a hose from a kit I had to the rear but that did not work for me. Now experimenting with tubliss, see how it goes. Glad to see I am not the only one that tries to make his tyres last 10k 😂
16:40 ... I had a TKC80 and learned the hard way on the Dempster Hwy that there was not nearly enough thickness on the tread between the knobs to take a plug. Then, my silly bicycle tire patches would not completely stop the leak. Tubes not an option due to (I know, not an ADV bike) F800ST stems. Was kicking myself for not getting better patches -- though days later at Eagle Plains even the very competent garage mechanic with an air burring tool and truck patch couldn't stop that leak. Thankfully, had a spare road tire, a Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT the gents at the Bike Shoppe in Edmonton had recommended -- AWESOME TIRE - went up & down BOTH the Dempster & Dalton on a severely over-packed bike (1,100 lbs including rider) -- AWESOME ROAD TIRE. 19:15 ... Wry grin hit my face, mate. I carry a 2nd set of Motion Pro irons -- otherwise my F800ST beads simply cannot be broken with irons -- also -- didn't see it in this very excellent video -- thank you once again for the hard work & sharing -- perhaps you had tried a ratchet strap around the tire to help set the bead? ... Back on the Dempster, not even two hefty ratchet straps cinched down to the max could help set the bead on my Edmonton Michelin, a method that had worked successfully with my other road tires, a trick an old boss & dear friend had taught me. Then, after the Yukon grizzly left that had stopped by for a visit (true dat), somewhat exhausted I paused and looked at the fat little Michelin Man icon on the sidewall and asked: What's your secret? ... Then it dawned on me: try a little finesse (French?) with your brute force. So I tried using only one ratchet strap, cinched fairly lightly, while carefully lining up the tire beads evenly along both sides of the rim's interior, and, voila!, those oh so satisfying bead pops! "Grab yer gear"!!
Hi Kradius, I did try a ratchet strap twice...no joy so kept trying other options. I guess as long as you remain positive during hardship then eventually you’ll figure out a solution. Thanks for watching.
Great video sir, really shows the desolation of the outback. I am a great believer in the good old tube tyres for remote riding, there are times when tubeless are just not up to the task. Yes they are easy to fix if you get a hole but as you showed not if you get a few, the biggest problem I find is breaking the bead, just to put a tube in, tube type tyres are so much easier. Just an opinion and maybe food for thought.
Hi WhiteDRguy, I run a DR650 as well so know the benefits of both tubed and tubeless tyres. Its all about packing the right stuff for most instances that could arise when Outback in the hope you've packed the right gear.
Always enjoy your films , couple of questions the poem for one is it published and by who? Second what was the problem with the tyre bead? Cobberdog 🇨🇦
Hi Dave, poem link is here; en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Not_Stand_at_My_Grave_and_Weep I downloaded a copy from UA-cam to include in my vid. Thanks for your interest in the vid.
Fantastic Adventure vid! Listening to you reading the poem towards the end Made my eyes misty.. how would you have fixed the tyre if there was no mate with a spare while you run out of plugs? Best from Amsterdam 👌
Hi Frank Van Leer, I do carry tubes which will fit a tubeless tyre in an emergency situation. I have used those before when I was stranded in the Outback. I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. Thanks for watching.
No..all to do with the wind direction and the dust trail. As long as you don’t make sudden moves and time it right, the Truckers will move on the opposite side so you don’t get covered in dust. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions very sensible, not surprised the truckers will do that, they are 99.9% great drivers and very considerate if shown the same courtesy. Thanks
Here... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Not_Stand_at_My_Grave_and_Weep You can here the poem on UA-cam....just type in 'Do not stand at my grave and weep'.....something should come up. Thanks for watching.
Hi Bryck Robin, there are some very good well formed unsealed roads out there in this vast country of ours. It is easy to avoid the sand if you want to. Start networking with like minded fools and just get out there. Glad you like the vid.
Hi LL, Suzuki DRZ400 and DR650 are very popular for this type of riding. I lean toward a big Adventure bike (BMW R1200) because I usually cover big Outback km in relative comfort. It would be based on your budget, level of experience and type of riding you want to do. Thanks for watching.
Great Video Steve. @ 22.54 was that guy heading opp direction at speed into your dust on wrong side of road WTF. Welcome to Bum F--K brains as well then.
Fear not Lucy Mooch. It depends on which way the dust trail blows. If we know we are gunna get covered in dust, often we will make a very obvious change in direction to the opposite lane. Most drivers get the idea pretty quick. If there is any risk then we would just pullover to the right if the driver doesn’t quite get the hang of it. Thanks for watching.
Such a shame you couldn't have gone up to Cotton Creek and beyond. Went up the Tallawana in the early Eighties and camped at Cotton Creek before there was an Outpost there. I found caves that still had rounded Quartz stones used for grinding ochre in neat pairs/different colours and Spears resting upright on the cave walls. Left there by our brothers when they were exited by the authorities to use their land for a crash site for rockets released from Woomera in SA. Some nice natural pools up there to swim in and the Cotton Creek had plenty of pools along its way to the Rudell as well. I never touched the artifacts/hope they remain but Mining has happened up that way now so ..... ? Camel Country and Gold if your looking. Lasseters Lost Reef is still out there I believe. And I think I know where. Lake Disappointment is a disappointment but everywhere before it is amaaaazing! Check out the Bull Finches for water. Where they fly off to is where it is. Cheers
Hi Bob, i guess its easy to forget that Australia's first inhabitants have a culture that goes back thousands of years and that Australia would have pockets of their history all over the place never to be seen by white fella. Usually the remote communities are in idyllic landscapes (and rightly so) far off the beaten track. I am blessed to be able to travel the Outback so freely and am always drawn to its harsh beauty. Thanks for your input in the comments. Hope you like the vid.
Hey Steve Really enjoy your videos. Question for you... When you were heading for Georgia Bore, why were you riding apart? In the video you said that you had to go back and found Shane had pulled over... etc. I'm just curious why you weren't riding together as it was just the two of you.
Hi BP, we were travelling close enough to see the high beam light from the guy behind or see his dust trail. The problem we faced on that day was the wind was so strong that it was picking up a lot of dust and blowing it in the direction we were travelling. I thought Shane was right behind me (a few hundred metres away) all the time. It was not till i stopped that i realised he was back a few km. Glad you like the vid(s).
Hi TT, Welcome to the Channel. Thanks for the Sub. Australia uses the Metric system, that is, all speeds and distances are km per hour and km, not miles. Sit down, strap in, enjoy the journey!
Didn't read through all the comments, but is there a secret 'rule' I don't know about keeping right on the dirt roads in WA? Twice I saw you on the right and oncoming utes passing to your left. Very curious.
Very perceptive... If the wind is blowing across the road we will do that to prevent getting covered in dust. We just have to make sure our movements are deliberate and obvious to the trucks or cars so that know what we are up to. Its not that uncommon. Hope you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
Steve, I am highly opposed to people leaving groups to venture on their own, my motto is everyone leaves together and everyone comes home together, you are so lucky nothing serious happened to you mate, I know you are experienced but those flats could have been a disaster.
Hi Titanium308, thanks for your interest in the vid and your comments. Without sounding too cocky, this was not my first Rodeo and i have been around the block once or twice. I take sensible precautions and size up the risks with any ride. I have systems in place and my rides are monitored by friends and family who can track my rides in real time. I also carry sufficient food and water to last me days if i strike trouble. I always carry a PLB and on some rides i carry a satellite phone. On this occasion i did not feel that i was in any real danger. The other reason that i find myself on my own is that other Riders are not always available to go for extended rides due to work of family commitments. I'm not gunna stay at home and watch daytime TV just because others are not in a position to share my passion. Thanks for watching. I hope you continue to enjoy future vids.
Was waiting for this video for ages. , thanks man. By the way , I hope you didn’t leave your old tire back on the roadside ? Didn’t see it on the back of your bike or on the bike from Shane.
Hi Kiwizz 21. There were a couple of 4WDs that came along...we tried to use their compressor to re-inflate the tyre but that didn't work. They took the old tyre for us and were going to dispose of it when they got to town. Glad you like the vid.

You don’t have to take too many chances to enjoy an Adventure Ride in Oz but I’m attracted to the harsh beauty of the Outback. Glad you like the vid.
If you ever come here watch out for drop bears, they can and usually will do you a mischief .
Fantastic Steve .....those deaths are a hard reminder of how hard our land can be.
Hi BtB, it can be tough out there for the unsuspecting. Thanks for watching.
Great video 👏🏽
22.20 - I read that poem out at my brothers funeral .... his influence inspired me to follow him onto motorcycles and is the reason I'm watching this video today.
Ride safe 🙌🏽
Hi Ian, I hope I didn’t trigger any sad memories of your brothers funeral...I guess the poem is meant to celebrate life and help people heal. Glad you like the vid.
Mongrel Dog Productions - no fella, had a big line of bikes behind me on the worst motorcycling day ever....... only proper bikers would ride in those conditions so he'd have been well impressed 👌🏽
blody good stuff, just found your channel, not a off road guy, but like the biking
Thanks mate regards Mark.
I enjoyed this video so much I watched it several times. Excellent filming and storytelling, you really capture the essence of motorcycle adventuring. My favorite part of your video is at 22:17, it really hits the soul. Thank you, I'm now a new subscriber!
Hi MA, welcome to the Channel. I’m glad you like the content. I’m just a schmuck with a camera who likes to share the Adventure. My reward is when viewers write comments such as yours. Thanks for watching.
Good on him for knowing his limit..........lots of silly buggers push on until they become a problem for everyone else.......I respect what he did there...
Yeah, gotta know when to pull the pin. We are getting too old to heal quickly after an injury. Thanks for watching.
Always enjoy your videos. Epic adventures mixed with some down to earth common sense. 👍
Hi Jeff Bourdette, glad you like the Channel content...thanks for watching.
Oh wow........... that would have been an adventure PLUS!!!
Nooooo............. I wanna see more of that orange/red dirt............. don't want to you to stop filming......
Hi KO'D, it was good to get Outback again. Hope you like the vid.
Great video Steve, always good to turn back if someone’s not happy, I miss W/A the emptiness, sunrise & sunsets keep up the good work
Hi NN, glad you like the vid.
Hi Steve, greetings from South Africa, I'm new to your channel and enjoyed this video, have never seen the outback, an eye opener.
Hi Zeplin, welcome to the Channel...hope you enjoy the content. Thanks for watching. 👍🇦🇺
Enjoy those videos I've given up adventure riding due to injuries and hitting over 50 body can't do it anymore I'm going to miss it but I've just bought a nice sports tourer so I'm still on the road
Hi Thomo, I would’ve thought 50 is a bit young but we are all different. Enjoy your sports tourer. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions rooted knees and back mate can't stand on the pegs all day
Great trip those PAR get a ways rides becoming popular was out that way few weeks before you guys, Nice little reconnaissance on the 2021 Dessert Raid i had gear rumors of it being in Cathedral Gorge way up North? As always thanks for sharing and hope to bump into you out there one of these days.
Hi ADV-MOTO-Rider 72, Cathedral Gorge would be VERY challenging...probably too much so. Glad you like the vid.
Just found your channel ! What a great upload this was to watch I feel like I was on the adventure too
Hi Alex, welcome to the Channel; sit down, strap in, enjoy the ride!
Man ,you make some great motorcycle videos!
Hi Bill Cotton, thanks Bill. Glad you like the Channel content. 👍
I’d love to do this
I don't even ride bikes and I love your channel. Make more content mate!
Hi IO, I'm glad you like the Channel content....watch this space (for another vid).
@@mongreldogproductions 👍👍👍
The desert baths in Rudall River woukd be a good meetung point
We were there a couple of years ago
Hi 2906ry, we were there in 2013 for Desert Raid....stunning landscape. Video link is here.... ua-cam.com/video/-2z12G2AFyU/v-deo.html
Great video
My friend your tyres have had it.
Do ya think???? I reckon’ there was a bit more life left in ‘em

Excellent few days. For a couple of times I saw you pass oncoming vehicles on the wrong side on the tracks?
Hi Benny, correct. If the wind is blowing across the road we will do that to prevent getting covered in dust. We just have to make sure our movements are deliberate and obvious to the trucks or cars so that know what we are up to. Its not that uncommon. Hope you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions Yeah I loved the video - every opportunity to see red dirt...
Yes common practice on remote roads
Next time you think you may have to set a bead, make sure you have a ratchet strap with you. Set the strap around the center of the tread and tighten. Compressing the center of the tread pushes the sidewalls out and setting the bead becomes a snap.
Hi George, tried that…didn’t work. Thanks for watching.
It’s always interesting to see how people live in so far out places, nice content 👍🏼😁
Hi FB, glad you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
Steve, Another Africa Twin!!. OK. Next Desert Raid I'll ride my AT ('93 model) to the Raid!!
Hi Steve, you’ll have to wait now till 2023. See you on the other side.
'Uber tyres' 🤣👌
Thanks for the giggle.
Also, love your work! Great content and editing.
Hi JW, Glad you like the Channel content. Shane does have a sense of humour. Thanks for watching.
Ripper footage and brilliant soundtrack Steve, love your work man!
Hi John Flynn, glad you like theChannel content...thanks for watching. Sometimes the soundtrack is the most difficult part. I think I am mellowing. 👍
Ever tried the ratchet strap technique to seat the bead?
Love the footage mate
Hi Diidly Pepper, yeah, we did. Twice. No success.
Great video Steve. Still running your tyres till you kill them. 😂
Hi Mike, yeah, i do like to get my money's worth. I probably crossed the line this time! Glad you like the vid.
Always enjoy your films , couple of questions the poem for one is it published and by who? Second what was the problem with the tyre bead?

Fantastic Adventure vid! Listening to you reading the poem towards the end Made my eyes misty.. how would you have fixed the tyre if there was no mate with a spare while you run out of plugs? Best from Amsterdam 👌
Hi Frank Van Leer, I do carry tubes which will fit a tubeless tyre in an emergency situation. I have used those before when I was stranded in the Outback. I’m glad you enjoyed the vid. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed this video, thanks. In a few spots like around 23 mins the traffic is driving on the right instead of the left. Is this an editing reversal?
No..all to do with the wind direction and the dust trail. As long as you don’t make sudden moves and time it right, the Truckers will move on the opposite side so you don’t get covered in dust. Thanks for watching.
@@mongreldogproductions very sensible, not surprised the truckers will do that, they are 99.9% great drivers and very considerate if shown the same courtesy. Thanks

Great vid mate , I’d love to get out there one day ! Once I master deep sand !!
Hi Bryck Robin, there are some very good well formed unsealed roads out there in this vast country of ours. It is easy to avoid the sand if you want to. Start networking with like minded fools and just get out there. Glad you like the vid.
What size bike do you think is best for this kind of riding? I can see it's all about reliability, tires and fuel millage/range.
Would love to have a copy of the death poem.

Plenty of O shit moments down under Steve. But very entertaining vid safe riding to all you guys. 👋😎☘☘☘
Hi Jim, once again, glad you like the vid. ‘Safe Riding’ is optional lol. Thanks for watching.
Did they casivac the kangaroo back with Neal? 🦘😢 👍🏴
No...but guess what was on the menu that night.
Hey Steve
Really enjoy your videos.
Hi just scribed great videos. Can you tell me if your road signs are in mph or km per hour ?
That’s why it should have been changed before a big trip ?
Yep, I’ve got all the gear; and no idea.
Was that an Africa Twin to the rescue of the BMW
Hi Rockbiter Hd, I’m not a proud man. For all I care, it could have been a Vespa Scooter lol. Thanks for watching. Hope you liked the vid. 👍

Thanks mate , I was pretty sure you’re a sensible guy and would take care of our environment. ( just wanted to make sure you didn’t chuck it somewhere beyond a black stump as many other people would do.)
Keep the vids coming , love them.
Great vids mate....such a shame though, ya let 'scam ads' on your vid such as the shonkster who says he can make millionaires for nothing just by using his 'system'. There's a few of these here on youtube..that's the 2nd one Ive encountered. Yep...they're scammers. Otherwise though...your vids are terrific with some good common sense such as camping and waiting for the water to lower at Gibson river. Cheers mate.. ps..Im a Victorian who has a VFR800...but my next bike I want is the 1250GS...so youve done it a great advert promo..thx to ya! :)
Hi Kent, I don’t have any control over the Ads…
