Nobody whose mom is Sonya would want school made lunch!! My baby is now in his first year of college and my husband is retired so I'm no longer packing lunches but my husband usually packed the lunches so I was lucky. I usually do a grocery run on Sunday. I then often prepare enough salad and soup for the week and do my first 3 days of cooking
You have to be the most organized person I know. You are an amazing wife, mother, nurse, teacher and cook! Thumbs up! Thank you for sharing your daily life videos. Cleaning, cooking, stocking, teaching, etc. please keep the videos coming!
Sonya, in addition to cutting up melons and keeping them in glass containers in the refrigerator, I also cut up mangoes. They last about 6 days in a glass container in the fridge. Thank you for sharing your routines and tips with us! You inspire me to be more giving to my family and neighbors. Peace, Dear Lady.
My most favorite person on UA-cam! I wait for all of your new videos! You are absolutely wonderful, my dear, and I love your little family. l'm 76 years old and always learn something new from you. I did not know that I was Jewish until my mother passed away - she was afraid to tell anyone until just before her death - which is so very sad!! We came from Munich, Germany and I know that during the war my father (non-Jewish) saved my mother and family from the train (during WWII) because he was a Sargent in the regular German army and he paid to get the family (my mother, siblings, Grandmother and Aunt) off of the train and told them to run into the woods and hide and keep going south. Anyway, I was born In a little village called Schliersee - 30 minutes south of Munich near the Austrian border. I know this is a long story, but I just wanted you to know how thankful I am to you for showing and teaching me (as well as others) all of these Jewish recipes. I truly enjoy making these dishes and try to learn more about my heritage - and you help with that, my dear! I just wish that my mother would have told us sooner because I always felt that I was Jewish and always drawn to the Jewish culture - guess it was my heritage! Thank you, sweet Sonja - you have become like my family!! You are a real sweetheart and I love your little family and adore your wonderful husband!
😭OMG this was so touching, it brought tears to my eyes. What an incredible journey. What an amazing story. Wow!!!! I can almost feel the fear that your mother had to hold such a secret for so long… now that you know there is so much to learn and to discover and I am honored to be a small part of it 💕.
I just found your channel and I have been watching all your videos. I grew up in a drum family and spent most of my younger years as well as teen years in crown heights and going to Bais Chana in New Haven. I have backed away from being frum and now that my children are getting older they are asking me a lot about my childhood and why I chose to live the way we do. I am so glad I found your channel and I can’t wait to share your videos with my kids. I am making shabbos this weekend for the first time in a very long time. Good shabbos
I cut apples in half, carve out just the middle & the stem, then put the halves back together & wrap the apple up tightly in a plastic bag. - If you push down on the stem of a bell pepper with both thumbs, then cut it in half, you can just shake off the stem & the remaining seeds. - I hope this works for you, too! 😊
So not only are you the best wife a man can ever ask for but also the best mom. After I saw those lunches you packed for your kids, I was like, where was I all these years in school.
Shana Tova! I defintely do food prep for the week… I love making egg salads, pre cook meats, etc… I work in the office twice a week… the night before I put my food into smaller containers to bring: ie, risotto, fruit, salads, I also pack humus and healthier chips, etc… I agree set up is crucial… I know I’m going to be tired in the AM and don’t dare leave it for morning of… 😴🥱
Hii Sonya... I am indian...and i love Jewish people... 🥰 because I have read about you guys in the Bible.... And in the Bible, God says that I will bless the one who blesses and i will curse the one who curses you.....our blessing are with you.... 🤗God bless you Jewish community... Love you so much😊❤❤😊 love for Israel🇮🇱🇮🇳 🇮🇱
You are right. Apples and berries do not do well if they are cut in advance. We do melons and grapes (find that they last longer in glass containers) We also cut carrots and cucumbers (and my kids LOVE RADISHES.........which is a veggie that 90 year olds, from the "old coutnry" enjoy. Boiling eggs on Sunday is a must as well. Also packing the home made granola bars so that they are ready for the week is a great help
Thank you for sharing another wonderful video with us Sonya! You really are Supermom!! 🦸🏻♀️ I really admire how you organize everything and it’s such a great idea to prep for the upcoming week. I’m definitely going to try this. Your kiddos are so sweet to help…you are so patient. Your little guy is so darn cute! I love watermelon 🍉 too!! Have a blessed week.
When my four (now grown) children were growing up, I always kept a supply of boiled eggs and washed and prepped fruit available like you do. But I would also prep veggies like broccoli, califlower florets, baby carrots, celery sticks, and cucumber and tomato slices. I also made sure I had plenty of homemade dressing/dip as well. They could help themselves and often I would put a bowl of raw veggies and a bowl of dip on the table while I was finishing up supper, and the bowl would be empty before suppertime! I found that a child will readily eat a certain raw veggie that if served cooked, wouldn't touch. When they were teenagers, I kept a pull out clear bin stocked with everything they would use to make sandwich on a shelf in the fridge, including condiments and washed and prepped veggies, as well as fillings. (I kept the bread/wraps on top of the fridge.) That way they could pull out the bin, take it to the table, make their sandwiches, put everything back into the bin, then slide it back on the shelf. It was easy to keep stocked, saved a lot of time and mess, and best of all they could help themselves! Each child liked different stuff on their sandwich, so it was a sanity saver when they would be coming and going at different times. The clear bin wasn't wide, but it was deep and they were inexpensive.
Great video! I love to prep food for the week. It’s just my husband and I now that my boys are grown and gone, but I still meal plan for the whole month, shop once a month (with a quick 2 week fresh food restock halfway through the month) and I also have a cleaning schedule. So for the meal prep, I brown and season hamburger and just have it in the fridge for quick tacos. I also put a bag of chicken thighs in the crock pot, season and when done that also goes in the fridge for quick chicken meals like tacos, BBQ chicken, stir fry or chicken salad. I also make hard boiled eggs and precut veggies. I usually make a simple mixed berry salad with whatever berries are on sale. We haven’t had any problems with mushy berries, I don’t do anything special, lol! I make my husband 5 single containers with basic lettuce salads every week, with lettuce, olives, green onions but the cut up tomatoes go in their own container so they don’t get icky. My husband pulls one of the containers out, adds meat, dressing, cheese and avocado and it’s his favorite lunch when I’m at work. I also will make 2 casseroles when I cook, one to eat that night and I freeze the other for later. It’s amazing how just a little effort to prep like this saves me stress and money in the long run. Take care!
I am the same way! Even though my four children are grown and gone and my husband has passed and it is just myself, old habits die hard! I still wash and prep all my produce at one time, so it is ready to go when I need it. I will still get a family pack of ground beef or chicken when It goes on sale. I will brown the whole package at one time and divide it up into zippy freezer bags and only have to deal with the grease once. Since the meat is already browned, it doesn't even have to be thawed out before using it, by the time the rest of the dish i am using it in is ready, it is thawed out and hot. I also will make up a family pack of ground meat into meat loaves/balls. I wrap the meat loaves up in foil, and flash freeze the balls, then pop in a big zippy freezer bag. I do the same with chicken, as cooked and shredded/chopped chicken is a base for so many meals. I put it into the pressure cooker or InstaPot, until it is falling off the bones. I let it cool and then debone and chop. The broth chill, skim the fat, and freeze in repurposed plastic jars and ice cube trays. I then pop the cubes out and store in a zippy freezer bag. Rarely have to buy chicken broth and can use couple of the cubes anytime in making other dishes to give extra flavor and nutrition.
How do you stay so thin with the magnificent meals and coffee latte that you drink????? You are amazing, I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much for having this channel ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love berries. They would always spoil before I could use them all. I learned to let them soak in a vinegar and water solution and then dry them well. They then can be re-packaged and put in the fridge. The vinegar kills off the bacteria and molds that cause the rapid deterioration.
Vinegar water solution is great; even saw The Doctors & Dr Oz in YT clips saying how well it works. I once kept fresh parsley for 6 weeks! And it’s the only way to prep wash fruits before storing, plain water just encourages rot. Encourages eating fresh fruit & veg too when it’s all ready to eat.
No little ones at home for us, but I still do lots of meal prep on the weekends since we both still work full time. I wash and store grapes and strawberries. I also boil eggs for a quick snack. I really see what looks good at the grocery store and then fly by the seat of my pants.
We are just two but I buy large packages of ground beef at Costco and brown it all, half with chopped peppers and onions, half with just beef. I buy a large bag of onions, cut a third of them into half inch squares, a third of them into slices and freeze them on trays and then transfer them to ziploc bags. The final third I keep whole. I buy a big bag of tri-color peppers and cut them, half in strips and half in small pieces, and freeze as above. I use a lot of tiny, chopped vegetables in soups, etc. so I do onions, celery and carrots in the food processor until they look like rice, then freeze as above. I also do broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and onion all processed finely and frozen as above. I buy pork, chicken breasts or thighs and put them whole or cut up in a Ziploc with seasonings and veggies and freeze the whole bag. I make and cook meatballs and freeze them. (Usually one or two of these projects per weekend) Then, when it's time to make dinner I just throw whatever ingredients I need together quickly and then into the oven or slow cooker. 15 minutes tops to get the meal going and set the table. Then I relax until its done. I love having things done ahead of time so I don't have to stress when it's dinnertime.
Hi. We are empty nester bh. With married kids and grandkids bh. I amazed how organized you are. Strawberries will keep well in plastic containers. After you wash them take off the top cut each one in half. When I had kids at home I was very organized as well but not like you. You really amaze me. Have a גמר חתימה טובה. An east fast and a happy New Year.
Great video! Your kids are so cute helping out! I found with strawberries that if you give them a few minute water bath (any longer they will mush up) with a splash of vinegar they last longer. I wash the container they come in and put them back in there after washing.
Hi I also try to prep as much on Sunday for the week by sautaing a pot of onions in advance, since many of our traditional bucharian dishes require it as a base. I also try to do my stir my vegis ready for the week by getting that done especially if we are having chineese food on one of the weekdays. As far as the menu, I also dread of the thought of thinking about what to cook during the week and I found a way to even get my kids in the menu planning by using an old game board to put all of our helathy as well as favorite dishes on it and every Sunday after breakfast my kids take turns in rolling the dice and writing down 7 breakfast, 7 dinner ideas for the week and even the weather and i have a display of our menu of one of sry erase self adhesive post its so there are no fights. LOL we even added the weather and the parsha for the weekly menu as well. If your kids are too little to write then have them roll the dice .They will have a lot of fun doing it.
I never do prep because I'm just lazy, so that's why I like watching you do it. About the only fruits I get are the ones you mentioned that don't do well with advance prep- berries and apples, since I'm allergic to melons. One thing that I do if your kids eat oatmeal, I get fresh blueberries when they're on sale and freeze them on a cookie sheet so they stay separate and them put them in a freezer bag. Put them in the oatmeal before you cook it and the cooked blueberries pop in your mouth and are so yummy.
I take care of my Mom, who still lives independently and works from home. But she's in her early seventies and she needs a little extra help with things. I discovered this when she started working from home because of the coronavirus. My brother and I were doing all the shopping to keep her out of stores, and I started asking if she wanted help with things. At first I thought I would do housework and fix things, but it turns out she likes doing that herself. She actually wanted help with meals. I think she is a little tired of cooking since she has cooked for her five children for five decades now. So I talk to her about what meals she wants and then do inventory and make a meal plan. On Sunday I shop and bring the groceries to her place. Then I spend a few hours preparing vegetables and salads and entrees. I'll cook four or five pieces of fish and a few pieces of meat like brisket or beef shoulder that she can reheat. I buy a case of matzo crackers at a time and make sure she has a selection of cheeses. In summer, she doesn't eat a lot starches, but in winter she likes to have hot food like soups and pasta and mashed potatoes. Usually I try to leave her about 10-12 meals and/or options she can mix and match for what she feels like eating. I think my tip would be preparing herbs and dressings. I leave her with four or five bowls of prepared herbs that she can add to her meals. Parsley, dill, mint, and savory herbs. I also leave her a few different containers of dressings, including some of your recipes. The herbs and dressings really elevate the meals, and she is quite creative with them. It's sort of amazing that if she has a lettuce in the fridge, she doesn't want to do anything with it, but she will happily make herself a nice salad if there are washed lettuce leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, and dressing. It's just amazing how much food you can make on a Sunday afternoon.
Sonya, you are wonderful!!! I love watching your videos... You have super ideas for lunch and everything is prepped so nice! Your family can and surely is happy about you. I like you so much! Nice greetings from Germany, god bless you and your family. I am christian but I love your jewish kosher kitchen very much. Hello and bye from Jacky.
Hi sonya H r u'll doing this Wednesday afternoon ,, As always ur shows are very interested,, we're all adults,, i usually cook a very big dinner on sundays and it lasts until Wednesday,, i love banana bread plain or decorative,, yes i would enjoy more of ur shows ,, keep up the great work
Great job! I am sooo glad that I subscribed. You are a fabulous wife and mother. I am interested in what fruits are easily storable like how you do it with the melons?? Thanks
I love your organization! The lunches look delicious, certainly better than the school lunches. I’m thinking I would benefit from doing something similar for myself. Thank you for sharing.😊
Great job, as always Sonya ❤️ If you want to make it very easy to peel your eggs then boil water, submerge the eggs for exactly 12 minutes and when you take them out place them in a bowl with lots of ice
Hi,Sonya, thanks for sharing this video,as usual, you are so organized, and I admire you so much for that, but again, you have to be in order to manage doing everything in day by day life with your beautiful family! I don't have to do anything of the kind, because my 2 sons are grown up men, even if they are still living with me and my husband,(it's much more convenient for them),I prepare everything when they need it,I have all the time because I'm in pension now!Only before Shabat and other big holidays, I prepare in advance everything we want to eat on these special days!🤗🥰🙂So,congrats from all my heart for everything you do,and as always, MAY HASHEM BLESS YOU AND ALL YOUR LOVED ONES, ALWAYS AMEN ve AMEN!!!🥰🤗💞🤗🥰💖
Unfortunately we don't have Sundays like this in Israel. We need to be very efficient as soon as Shabbat ends and if we're not, it definitely impact our week. I usually prep on Tuesdays when the groceries have fresh produce/butcher and we have the fridge empty from Shabbat leftovers. 🧡🍷🇮🇱
Oh Sonja - one of my most favorite foods (since my teenage years) is noodle kugle! I still make it to this day - and absolutely love this dish. Can you prepare one for us? Don't know if it's just Ashkenazie (which is what my family is) or not, but I love noodle kugle!!!
Ok. I don't have any tips on fruit, but I have a question about hard boiled eggs. In the Bible there is a verse that talks about not eating/drinking blood; Deuteronomy 12:23. And, I've seen how each egg is to be inspected well, to make sure there are no specs of blood in them. I'm not Jewish, but I think this is an awesome rule. Thank you G-d. But, how does one check the eggs that are hard boiled once the whites turn opaque?
As always. your organizational skills are thorough and well thought out! 😀❤🍉🫑🥚🍆 Your instructions on how to accomplish all of it was so easy for us to follow right along!
I dont buy Colgate toothpaste no more I buy a flouride free toothpaste much healthier for my 3 year old. A vegetable garden is a mist with food shortages coming. Stick up on bulk items . I watch prepper video as well. Fois shortages are Coming.
The thing that I like about Jews is that they are very clean and hygienic people who take regular bath and don't eat pork and rely on strict kosher diet
@@SonyasPrep oh. My kids say the same thing that they like cold lunches and don’t like them heated up. I just see the pancakes and French toast and hotdogs and I want to warm them up
Hmmm, seems like you prefer he uses his right hand. What is that about? So many incredibly creative (although perhaps not easily controlled) individuals favor their left hand.Always enjoy your videos and wishing you a sweet New Year!
Sonya knows her own child. She is a nurse and would NEVER do anything to disadvantage her own kid. She is with him all the time, so knows if he is right handed. Kids his age (BH have six of my own) do not yet know with which hand they are dominant. Parents just help their kids, as that is what a parent is supposed to do.
@@alizafuchs4867 Yes, that is what a parent is supposed to do. She is a lovely individual. Due to schedules and life, her many kiddos are left in the care of others. Makes perfect sense. A tired mother can only see so much at the end of the day. Also, making a point to reference what hand is favored demonstrates preference by the family and shares this with the viewers. Understandable, as the world is made easier for right-handed people for sure. Sonya is delightful and we all love her. Hope that this is the take away message here.
I'm left handed, so was my dad and older sister. Mom said that when my sister showed she was a lefty mom tried to "help" her be a righty but Debbie wouldn't switch lol. When I came and favored my left mom said she didn't bother to correct me. My younger 2 sisters were right handed. It is hard to be left. Everything is geared for right-handed people. The knives are sharpened for righties, scissors ✂️ and machines. All for right-handed people. But we adapt. I was a hair dresser for many years, all the scissors were sharpened wrong for me. After many yrs, I finally found a scissors sharpened for lefties. And I found i couldn't use it lol I was so used to cutting with a right-handed shears (I had adapted) that I couldn't use a left-handed one. Thankfully I could return it. Yes life can be hard for a lefty, but we learn how to make things work. Now with moms 7 grandchildren, non are lefties lol weird how that works! Love your head coverings. Wish I could find something like that for myself!!
@@NanaPapa123 My "many kiddos" as you put it are not left in the care of others, but my own!! What a way to make a passive aggressive comment. My middle son is a lefty and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't twist my words around.

I love having things done ahead of time so I don't have to stress when it's dinnertime.
wow amazing!!! So effecient
💕💕💕
Thank you for sharing your reset. I'm going to start cutting up our weekly veggies too. Great idea for saving time!
Yes it really does. I will take any shortcuts I can get to make the week easier
Great video! Your kids are so cute helping out! I found with strawberries that if you give them a few minute water bath (any longer they will mush up) with a splash of vinegar they last longer. I wash the container they come in and put them back in there after washing.
We are on the same page, I Sunday prep too. Boiled eggs, cut veggies, ✂️ , snack bags and some pasta pre cooked for a fast meal.
Yes!!!!
Hi
I also try to prep as much on Sunday for the week by sautaing a pot of onions in advance, since many of our traditional bucharian dishes require it as a base.
Love this what a great idea
I am so glad I found your channel... It's very inspiring.
That means so much, thank you for watching
Shana Tova, hope you and your family had a wonderful Rosh Hashanah lots of love 💓
Thank you
I never do prep because I'm just lazy, so that's why I like watching you do it.
I totally have to prep my foods on Sunday. Helps with the week! Thanks Sonya!
Perfect!
You have great ideas. Yes, more videos.
Thank you Sonya, this is what I was hoping to find 🤩 thanks so much for your work, it's highly appreciated!

Outstanding video Sonya. I totally loved this one. Thank you!

Great job, as always Sonya ❤️
If you want to make it very easy to peel your eggs then boil water, submerge the eggs for exactly 12 minutes and when you take them out place them in a bowl with lots of ice
Great tip
I wouldn’t want a school lunch either if my packed lunch was that yummy. And prepared with so much love and care
I bet all the kids at the school want a lunch that Sonya makes. They look wonderful.

Honey dew melons, cantaloupe, and watermelon prep very well. Will hold up for several days!
Awesome
G’mar Chasima Tov Sonya! You’re an inspiration! Great video!
Looking forward to your Sukkot decorating and prep.
Coming soon
@@SonyasPrep , yay! 😀
That is really tough. It’s so hard to manage.
Oh Sonja - one of my most favorite foods (since my teenage years) is noodle kugle! I still make it to this day - and absolutely love this dish. Can you prepare one for us? Don't know if it's just Ashkenazie (which is what my family is) or not, but I love noodle kugle!!!
Yes Lynda I have a video on it. I will link it below

Hi, where did you get the shelves for your kids' closet? It looks so organized!
From Home Depot
❤️❤️
I realy want to see your lanches box please🙏
Sunday for us in Israel is just the same day as usual😊
Which knives do you use? They add to your speed in prep.
I use Misen knives. I have a link to them in my Amazon Storefront in the description box of the video

Great school lunches but don’t they get cold by the time they eat lunch
There are certain types of lunches that my kids don’t mind eating cold, others that have to be warm usually go into a thermos.
@@SonyasPrep oh. My kids say the same thing that they like cold lunches and don’t like them heated up. I just see the pancakes and French toast and hotdogs and I want to warm them up

Great video how old are u by the way,I would say your 30?
My middle son is a lefty so I know the difference lol. I have no issues with a persons natural inclination to be a righty or a lefty 😉
@@NanaPapa123 My "many kiddos" as you put it are not left in the care of others, but my own!! What a way to make a passive aggressive comment. My middle son is a lefty and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't twist my words around.
