Today’s meals and recipes bring back memories of my grandmother. She soaked her chicken in buttermilk before frying and cooked her collards greens with bacon - so down home delicious.
I would love to see a kitchen tour with your must-haves for kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc. and tips on how to organize/use certain items. I think it would be such a fun video.
Yessss, I'm in here Lauren! When I saw macaroni and cheese, my soul leaped! Glad to see you add some oil to your collard greens. I fry some fat back meat after I have washed away all the salt that preserves it, then I add the grease from the meat to my greens. Next, I add a par boiled turkey neck with water added to simmer my greens. Some of my people also put two large ham hocks in the greens for that delicious ham flavor. I, too have tried ham hocks. My late aunt Elizabeth who was better known as BigMama put bacon grease and fatback meat grease in her collards. She worked for a lawyer for years not only as their housekeeper, but she was their cook. They would have her cook their Thanksgiving dinner for them every year. And paid her extra! Her food was that good. Your greens look Delicious 😋.
Where were you when my children were in school, and I was a busy working mom? Oh, I know…you were in school, too. Lol You are my older daughter’s age. But, I adore everything you do! Your energy level surpasses any I’ve ever had…even when I was in my twenties and thirties. After a day of teaching elementary aged children ( my dream fulfilled) I’d come home and be exhausted. Phew. To have the meals you create, we wouldn’t be eating until 7 at night. But, you definitely make things look easy because of your preparation and organization. You’re the best, Lauren. I do have a question, or two…do you give the veggie scraps to the chickens? And could you tell me again about your nails? I love your videos, and get excited to see what you’re doing. ❤️
Sweetheart Lauren, I don’t know where to begin. Plain and simple, u r amazing, God bless u and thank u, for all u do. The menu plan for the week, the handwriting and the cooking, all r winners. I check ur recipe always, when I am making lasagna. We love it and it always turn great. Thanks again for everything. 🙏🥰👍👏🌹❤️🌟✝️
I can't tell you how accomplished i would feel prepping a weeks dinners, like these. Like, i feel like i might as well be shooting to be an astronaut. But you can do it. So, i should try it. I think seeing someone do something that seems insurmountable from beginning to end is really really helpful. And I'm not beating up on myself, i can probably clean in a way others would find impossible. But cooking.... lol
I love Collards and turnip greens with bacon. I'm from the south. You may know this, but collards if you grow them, they are sweeter when frost hits them. It they are bitter you can add a small amount of sugar. I know you and fMily eat healthy. Just fyi. Love your handwriting.
Feel the same about Pinterest. It’s okay for general inspiration but I like to find something and then make it my own with a twist. Thank you for being you! I know you have lot on your plate and we all appreciate your videos. 💜💜
Those are some of the prettiest collard greens I’ve ever seen. Coming from a Southerner, that’s saying a lot. Your supper looked yummy. Thanks for sharing
Hi Lauren, So glad you are back to posting regularly. I am definitely going to make this dinner for my family. My husband loves collard greens but I really did not know how to make them but I do now. He will be so surprised. Thank you!
your fridge is a dream! I always run out of space in the fridge once all the containers are in. then there are all the little leftover containers. well done Lauren!
First ..you have lovely hand writing! I'm an Artist so just know you do. :) I LOVE the planners you use!! I am a pen to paper girl and I know you are too!!
So glad I’m not the only one with this process. Makes my week go so smooth. I love the printouts. Printing them off right now. Edit: the drawers!! Omg love love love. Idk why I haven’t been doing this my whole life. Thank you 🥰
I think having a meal plan and preparing before is a good idea, with your family and working. The dishes you made look delicious and easy. I always enjoy watching you cook. I like to cook and look for different recipes. Have a blessed week.
Smoke precooked turkey drumsticks or turkey neck is absolutely fantastic for collard greens.I always like to try something new. I'm definitely going to try the bourbon bacon.
This is great! I like the idea of creating shopping list AFTER I meal plan. I always do opposite and we have extra food that goes bad. Seems like common sense but thanks, I needed this!
Such a cute video, 🤗 I’m curious about your meal planning & if there’s a reason Sunday didn’t have any menu items? Do you do something special for Sunday’s?
It’s true about Pinterest, it is the same recipe after recipe. I’ve gone back to my cookbooks and favorite family meals. Thank You for added meal inspiration…🌻
YUM!!! It looks so delicious💕 I've been slacking on meal prep this summer, but as school approaches I definitely needed this motivation to jump back in it! Thanks for sharing
I naked my Mac and cheese just as you do, but I never do breadcrumbs because I don't like how they turn out. I've never thought to toast them first! I'll have to give it a try!
Good video, my family loved the chicken and collards. It was quick and easy to make. Tasted amazing. Thanks for sharing. Does anyone else get really bad gas from the collards? It got so bad my boss sent me home from work for the day! His loss! The meal was worth it!
Hi Lauren, I am not a cook but, watching you cook makes me want to cook 😂 The chicken looks delicious! I just have to try to make that Mac n cheese. Have a blessed week ☀️
Hey Lauren! Do you mind sharing where/how you got the vintage alcohol posters up on your kitchen walls? I live in a 1925 Craftsman home and I think those would look so classy in mine. I also like to pay homage to my homes identity ☺️
Happy Sunday Everybody
The same to you HarleyGirl.
