May I offer a little history? The New Zealand Combined Army Band was invited as a guest of the Australian Military Tattoo of 1988.....celebrating 200 years of tradition. This band, without a doubt, the knockout of the whole show. No other military band had ever tried something as irreverent and remained hard core at the same time. This clip shows a whole new tradition back in 1988 that the New Zealand Army Band is now famous for. Just enjoy you have seen the first attempts at a great idea.
This is amazing!!! I was there with the US 25th Infantry Division Band. We all stayed at an Australian base with all the other bands. What scene that was! I played in jam sessions with some of these guys at the enlisted club after hours. This is priceless, thank you so much for posting it. It brings back a lot of great memories!
The white uniform was for hotter climates. It was made of lighter material. The red uniforms were 100% wool to hot for Brisbane where this video was shot.
I think these were just the band uniforms at the time, they now wear red jackets. If you go to the NZ Army website and look up the band, you'll see - or check out some of their other performances here on youtube.
Where was this I remember watching this in newzealand I was 8 years old im 33 now. That was awesome I thought ill never see this again this is rear thankyou for uploading.
Really great to see some old faces, better still listen to great sounds and marching. Well done the band members back then, enjoyed the show then and now. Taken in Melbourne? I note the band is still as great as ever.
@minxyzebra My Dad may have known your Dad he wasn't in this (he had left about two years prior) but if he had been in it earlier he would have probably known him then!) I think some family friends are in here though.
At 5:13 you will see the Maori "Haka". In the Maori way, this is both a tribal invitation and a warning at the same time. If you are the approaching tribe, you are expected to know the difference. That is why the "Haka" is deemed to be appropriate at most New Zealand ceremonial and sporting occasions. There is other proud history to it as New Zealand remains the only country that has never bowed to English imperialism, but that's another story.

I think it's one of the best performances ever from a showband!
The Fijian guy is from the Solomon Islands. We trained their musicians a part of a Pacific programme. The training still happens today.

An excellent trip that holds a lot of memories
