You're a beautiful and wonderful person, thank you!
Grog’s bartering is hands down one of the best moments entire campaign. The looks Laura gives her husband are priceless as he proceeds to barter up the price.
Reminded me of Patrick and The Flying Dutchman
It's great when you watch his face when she always tries to bargain
It's the "what would Grog do?" look of deep thought, followed by the "this is funny and will annoy my wife" grin as he delivers the line
The perfect blend of playing his low intelligence character, wanting to comedically annoy his wife and other party members, and also probably wanting to get some of the (likely rotting and decaying) shit out of his bag of holding.
@@Moola868 In fairness, organic material can't rot in a bag of holding since it's a vacuum and no oxygen to allow it to decompose. So, if you store stuff in there it should stay good for pretty much forever.

shes a great character but not my favorite. I get she means well and i like her and the characters she plays but shes not my favorite
Pike, yes. Yasha, no. And Ashley... she seems like a lovely person but I wouldn't describe her as my favourite. It's like she refuses to learn how core mechanics, spells or class abilities work yet gets a degree of leniency that no-one else does. I know, she misses a lot of sessions. Never-the-less, it slows things down and I'm not a fan of the double-standard.

Travis is honestly just amazing. The narrative in my head was he tried to haggle like Vex because he enjoyed the pity kiss earlier and wanted her to be proud of him. But as he is Grog with a glorious intelligence of 6, he has no choice but to haggle in reverse because that's exactly what Grog would do and you can just SEE the sheer combination of glee and "Oh god am I really doing this" in his face as he makes that trade.
This might be the best Grog moment in the series as it's such a beautiful in-character moment that is just hilarious.

@@kaeleastlord That's so crazy! So far, it seems unnoticeable, at least for me. I'll have to look for signs. :3
I noticed the episode before last that when Kashaw was complaining about Keyleth and Tiberius said she's like that, Keyleth asked "Is that how people see me?" and Vax immediately answered "I don't" with just the right tone that I could see he was hinting at how he sees her. I mean I only notice it knowing where things go, but it was clear he was playing into that already.
I feel like this might go back to when Vax did an insight check on Keyleth, when she was uncomfortable with Lady Kima joining the party. There were DM whispers, and Vax was really sweet about calming her down without denying her concerns.
The advantage of watching 5 years late is that "we'll be back in two weeks" means nothing... I don't know when I started watching, but I believe that I've blown through these 22 episodes in less than a month. I'll soon be "caught up"
This is why I never watch all the way until I've caught up with every episode. It makes me anxious to wait. I just rewatch until there's a lot more new eps. I might have a problem.

Yes it's very noticeable, especially when contrasted with the last few sessions. He's a fun player when he's on form.
Dude yeah, noticed that too.
That does seem to be the case this time around, yes. Even if it's just in-character, he gets very irritable with NPCs, but he's much more level-headed and silly in this session. It's nice.
I feel like Liam took it up himself this session to subtlety guide Orion to a more teamwork based play style. Paying for all his stuff, because of their combo and Tibs big part in preparing the kill and helping with the light spell with his cloak to support him
Damn I didn’t even think of that because it also seemed so natural in the moment but you might really be onto something there. No matter if it was intentional or not, Liam is just such a bro
if only it worked. as much as i hate orion for all the despicable things he did (most of them offscreen), it’s truly sad to see this long standing friend group fall apart right in front of the camera

So far, this has been my favourite episode so far. A lot of good feels, some sad feels, Pike returned, Tiberius was actually fun for the first time in a while, drunk Vex is the best thing, and Grog was in it.
Grog simply existing is enough for an episode to be good.
Agreed, but I can't help but miss my boy Scanlan. And right when Pike came back too. Big oof
Agreed, I miss Scanlan, though. I do however chuckle imagining him getting "lady favors" from 3 Tieflings while the group is in the fire plane fighting 3 druids in fire elemental form!

I'm glad that Matt overruled Keyleth being on fire as a water elemental. Too many DMs just follow the book instead of saying "wait that's stupid."
I thought that was so funny! Just the visual in my mind made me laugh!
Yeah I love how not even Matt could properly imagine/describe it
Well a way to describe that, is that her body of water, was boiling as the fire touch her and she her self was around fire, hot air, burning soil, and fire itself.
But yes you are right this is something i had to give some thought, mathew came up with the best "in a moment solution and logic".
During the right circumstances you can actually make water vapor burn... just putting it out there. Still liked that matt ruled it that way tho :)
I agree with Matt's ruling. However if I had to make a call like that, I'd say the spell wouldn't create flames and flavor it as boiling damage.
"You are always part of our journey, no matter where we go, Pike" was possibly the sweetest thing said until now.
And then "Kaiteiake" happened and I'm not so sure anymore!
I absolutely love Liam’s unabashed enjoyment of Matt’s performance. It reminds you that all of these guys are professionals and he’s just appreciating great work from a colleague and good friend.

You can see the characters saying it and imagine the tears streaking down Grog's enraged face. Incredibly moving. Bravo.
Grog's was a long shot.
I feel like they are going to say this down the road (new critter watching from beginning)
HARHEE Its funny thatcha say that.
Yeah. I was actually starting to feel the sorrow just a touch. These folks are goooood at what they do. :'-)
At what minute is this at?
Sickly dragonite: 200gp
2 warhorses: 600gp
Heroes’ Feast: 1000gp
Grog’s participation medal: priceless
There are some things gold can't buy. For everything else there're Critters
Vex: "...WHAT! HAPPENED!.."
Percy: "...i-it all happened so fast....i-i was sad about the carpet, a-and....oh my god [facepalms]"
He's huge! What was I going to say?
Laura playing a drunk Vex is my favorite. A serious reminder of how incredibly talented these people are. Every episode my favorite character changes.
"... with the loudest librarian on God's Green Earth." oh Percy. You've been having a rough few days, huh?
"Even though you are a water elemental, you are on fire."
".. Actually no, that's stupid."
Really shows how Matt adapts his narrative to be the most ideal for his and everyone’s experience.
Percy giving a slight bow to the druid after defeating him is why I love both him and Taliesin.
Fun fact: "Kaitiaki" the salute Keyleth spoke to her Ashari kin said to mean "Guardian" or "Brethren" is actually a real word in the Māori language. It translates exactly to guardian.
As a fellow kiwi, I was hoping to find this exact comment in here! ka pai
That's really cool! I always wondered if it was an actual word or just something they made up for the game
I'm Māori myself and did a solid triple take when I heard Liam say it as Orym in C3. I have minor mixed feelings about my culture being co-opted for fantasy stuff but it is still pretty cool hearing people completely separate from Aotearoa pop up with te reo out of nowhere and in comparison to other co-optings of Māori shit it is still relatively true to origin.
@@corpselikecreaturehard g me too and it feels weird you're right but nice too
@@keeeeegs I think part of the reason it feels a lot more okay in this than in other franchises is that Matt and Marisha seem to have a pretty deep love of Aotearoa with the amount they bring it up in relation to describing landscapes and such, and just off handedly. I've also noticed Marisha wearing a heru and distinctly Māori pounamu quite a few times over the years, so it does feel a lot more like appreciation rather than appropriation.
so can we talk about how bad Percy being on fire would actually be, considering he has guns and ammo and gunpowder on him lmao
I was gonna comment on that myself. In my game that would have been an issue for a gunslinger. Lol.
I once had a game where that occurred with a player who carried explosives around got crit'ed by the BBEG. One pillar of flame later, no more BBEG. I don't think I ever laughed so hard as a dm!
Ohh snap! Completly overlooked that :D Well he would go out with a bang at least :D
Percy presumably has a powder horn, which is an item from Pathfinder that prevents this sort of situation from happening.
Tierra Abeyta wouldn’t run it by matt
"How about you give me all of the dragon's teeth, and 2 vials of blood?"
"hmm...How about...all of the dragon's teeth, and 3 vials of blood?"
The sad thing I have done this in real life.........
One of the greatest RP moments in this campaign
The daggers he was getting from his wife (or girlfriend here?) was incredible. “Sleep on the couch or epic rp...” 🤣
Does anyone know the timestamp for this exchange?
destroyer it’s at 1:09:08
"Please Sarenrae fix our magic carpet." lmfao what a thing to bother your goddess about daily. XD
I'm YEARS late. But that was a fucking incredible performance by Marisha. That was incredible.
I'm a year later, but I agree. To display that mix of emotional vulnerability/youthful uncertainty/commitment to her purpose and people... that's like For Real Acting. Keyleth found strength when she needed it without ever betraying the roots of the socially awkward, inexperienced teenaged girl that Marisha built for her. I found it moving.
Everyone talks shit about Marisha but I really don't get the hate. Having watched all of campaign one and over half campaign 2, she's a genuinely good role player. She has annoying moments, but that's just Keyleth being awkward.
Tal flipping through his NPC notes looking for who the character might be before the Pike reveal , and then the joy dawning on his face is the cutest thing I've seen lately.
They are faking it there is no way they don't know that one of their best friends is in the studio or in town
Blade of Sorcery unless Ashley and Matt worked together to hide it from them until that moment 🤷🏻♀️
Laura continually to gradually perk up and that huge smile when Pike's name gets revealed was genuinely heartwarming.
"Dont let it die. Feed it. Give it water."
"Very good. Thank you."
The party roleplaying their reunion and breaking the news about the carpet, and DM Matt just sitting there watching with a silly grin.
Laura's face when Matt said "deduct 1000 gold from your personal funds" for the heros feast was priceless 😂😂
It wasn’t priceless, it was 1,000 gp lol
This episode shows how light-hearted and funny Orion could be on a good day. I wish he was like this in all episodes.
This! :c
Agreed!😣😝
He was actually delightful in this episode and it makes me sad 😢
Just a question, we know he has or had cancer, did he take chemo for it, that might explain the mood.
I still maintain that he’s not so bad as long as he’s got stuff to snack on.
1:00:20 Pike: Oh. Oh!
Mercer: You never heard of Vesh
Pike: Oh, I don't know who that is
Cracks me up!
The literal inverse of the check on Bahamut's symbol. Exhibit B on how Pike, not Scanlan, is the true troll of the group.
The opening hour or so of this episode is some of the best entertainment ever. They get so into the role play, and Grog’s haggling was amazing. They should have named the episode Vex and the Terrible Horrible Very Bad No Good Day
I’ve always loved the way Ashley gets deep into the narrative; her body language...she even cries and has goosebumps!! It’s an amazing role playing...she’s living every part of the story every time.
i generally don't think the crying was roleplaying, i think that was genuine emotion resulting from getting so invested with the characters. i cried too lol
@@scatz4994 Distinction without a difference, really. When actors get immersed in their characters, the emotion flows naturally.
@@GMBethHarmon Also she probably missed the group, sad to remember she had to leave.
Taliesin should count himself lucky that Matt decided not to simulate the effects of being on fire while carrying black powder.
Percy's been blown up enough.. for now at least. Gotta spread it out
Especially if he had made a couple more grenades.

Sandal: Boom
"I can take the cookies back" was my favorite DM in-RP consequence I've seen so far!
1:56:50
Vax to Vex: "Are you haggling with the fabric of time and space?"
😆😆😆
Hashtag just Laura things
(love her)
Watching Matt's face as the group tried to explain what happened with the carpet at the beginning was absolute gold!
Everyone: Jumps into a pool of swirling lava.
Mercer: "And so everyone dies horribly, ending the legend of Vox Machina. Tune in next week to watch everyone roll up new characters."
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"The legend of vox machina"
Liam: "Dagger Dagger, Dagger"
Taliesin Jaffe: "The comma there really brought it together"
For my own reference... 3:24:10
"And two vials of dragons blood."
"Do what Vex would do!"
"How about *three* vials of dragons blood?"
I died. :)
Damn, sometimes Tibs is genuinely a great character. Control flame to control the fire burning his body and just juggles it in front of a fire elemental. Gold. Wish we got more of that
To me, this is probably one of the coolest things he's done so far. No over acting, no complicated and elaborate actions, no glory hogging. Just a simple cantrip used in a really creative and fun way.
I love the moment when Vex has been so in character talking about whether there's a god mad at Keyleth, and then someone says something about Matt having an evil look on his face and she just gasps really loud as she realises she shouldn't be giving him ideas :D
3:14:58
Liam: "38"
Matt: "Oh I'm such a Rogue!"
I am dying lol!
I absolutely love when Taeslin has a maniacal Percy mad scientist moment. His cackles are my favorite sounds, i think 😂😂😂
Vax annoyance and discomfort at her sister’s remarks about Kyleth is just so cute xD
Important moment when Keyleth is asking permission:
Liam is concerned and focused
Laura is staying calm
Ashley is nervous
Travis is intrigued
Taliesin is apprehensive
Orion is worried
Sam is getting a pat down from his lady friends
Hey now, that pat down is therapeutic.
Watching Travis roll beard-checks for Grog is some of the most genuinely wholesome things out there. You can’t find that level of pure, positive excitement anywhere else, besides maybe a kid coming home from kindergarten and realizing he has a new puppy. Pure love. 💕
And he rolled a nat 100 on it.. I was so sad that he needed to roll low and got it thats like the only way to get a nat 100 is to need a nat 1 lol
@@fisharepeopletoo9653 Needs wil to roll it for him
@@k0pstl939 That would be the only time he rolls high.
@@fisharepeopletoo9653 the worst part is that for the most part only the 10s roll matters for these as a 1-4 is insta sucess and 6-9 is insta fail but with a 0 their is a 9/10 chance that is a sucess and will only be a fail if another 0 is rolled so i was super excited with the first roll then hopes crushed by the second
43:06 one of my favourite moments in this campaign so far….. travis looks so disgusted his wife kissed him 😂😂😂😂😂
Loved Orion in this episode. Marisha stands out too with so beautifully playing her usually-goofy character's response to this solemn, serious event.
Like when he sets off a wrist mounted flame thrower on Marishas ass and doesn't even apologize for it?
Master Hunter: “Do you trust me?!”
*Silent pause*
CR Group: “Well... not really no... I mean...”
*Matt laughing to himself*
18:29
Had that moment in campaign once and my Antipaladin simply said,
"No was I supposed to?" And everyone lost it
That was my response, and I'm crying 😭🤣🤣
I was hoping to God they would say "No", I was so happy when my wish was realized.
I mean after that Rimefang bs why should they? It all worked out in the end but sabotage or trying to get people killed deliberately (YMMV)? Honestly I wish they tried to murder her.
And now in the most recent ep of C2, they have an NPC straight up tell them not to trust her 😂
The moment when she was like "do you trust me" and there was just a 10 second round of matter of fact "nope" had me actually laughing out loud.
"How about... all the dragon's teeth... and THREE vials of dragon's blood?"
"WE'RE GETTING YOU A LEASH!"
Even though the storyline for this episode mostly revolves around Keylith's backstory, I really loved how it still gave a lot of opportunities for the whole party's personalities to develop. Really good rp from the whole cast!
*Matt:* "As a water elemental somehow, strangely, you are on fire...."
*Also Matt:* "You no what, I'm going to say no to that, that's stupid. There is no way you are catching fire."
I love it when DM's allow common sense to prevail.
Mercer has always been good at that.
Its because hes a God tier DM.
I've never had a problem with his callings
@@SPACEHARICE amen man. Amen.
Taliesin: "Dammit, DuPont!"
I personally think that it was great, but nevertheless he could still rule that she evaporates slowly while in the space of a fire elemental
Why are people mad that Keyleth is getting her story arc? It makes no sense to be mad about that. I mean, if she was purposely trying to put the spot light on herself when the focus is elsewhere I could understand but come on guys it’s roll play and well done roll play at that
I'm just mad that she blew 1,000 gold on Heroes Feast for little to no reason. They're planning on just another day of travel, no reason to expect a fight
@@andrewt4299 Except that the other group got attacked over night while in the forest on the way to the white dragon. Which I'm sure she has heard about the night before. And she did say that she just learned the skill. I'm not sure about Matt's game dynamics, but it probably involves some form of reinforcing new abilities by having to practice them. Plus she used her own gold for that, not party stash. Is it not her decision how she uses it?
@@andrewt4299 "Little to no reason" She's a druid about to start a huge set of trials that are one of the main focuses of her entire character and the feasts ended up giving them advantages on a ton of very important wisdom saving throws. How was it for little to no reason, and why would they not expect a fight? It lasts 24 hours.
Steven Bonnell yeah, then why not use it when closer to the destination. I don’t really care, but I think that’s what they meant
@@Christian-vq3lr She couldn't use it cause she chose different spells to help her in the battle. She clearly stated that before casting Heros Feast.
So many good moments in this session.
Grog's haggling, Laura's burp, Tyrioch, "Come back here, food!" Keyleth's monologue, Vax jumping in after Keyleth with no hesitation. Man, This crew is special.
Ah, classic Liam, having characters that need to roll fire-related wisdom saving throws.
tis weirdly prophetic true
It took me 22 episodes to realise Keyleth is the Avatar.
iSultan Sultangaliev I believe keyleth can save the world
iSultan Sultangaliev She's the Mary Sue character. every group had 6 their own showboater attention hog. Even Vex was getting bored.
I joked about that when I first heard her origin story. Upon watching her story flesh out I'm like "damn, it's true."
Kibago I agree, I like how each character has their own quirks that make them unique and kind of humbles them in certain respects so they aren't unbearably Mary Sue, the showboating I've seen has come from individual gameplay more than anything.
iSultan Sultangaliev Kiki wishes she was the avatar. Closest you could get to an avatar is a beyond lvl 20 character. Gassault setting. 20 lvls monk. 20 lvls kineticist(for earth, fire, water, air) which would be op as hell. Realistically best bet is 20 lvls monk and 20 kineticist. At later lvls kineticists can choose a second element
