I love your definitions on screen. I laughed my butt off. Great video. I recently purchased a 2001 classic with 285,000 miles so you just became my favorite channel.
I have had luck with D30 hubs by dousing them in penetrating oil and then banging a cold chisel on the side of the triangle mounting plate. it rotates inside the knuckle and then twists out. It is usually the same amount of fight, but the bearing is still good at the end. I have wrestled with more D30 hubs, knuckles, and axles than I care to remember. Another solid video for sure!!
Thank you! It's my fault for rushing the job... I should've used penetrating oil and waited... That being said... I worked the edges with a chisel and even used an extension as a punch to hit the broken bolt from behind... No dice. I hate hubs. Lol!
Dan, great video. This 93 Cherokee has a lot of newer parts from the 2nd owner. The U-Joints all seem good now but I'm learning it's best to just YT video's ahead of time so I know what I'll be in store for.

We'll see. Thanks again Dan for the video's & reply...
Use the hydraulic power from the power steering pump. Just did it yesterday on a northeast xj. Super easy. After hub bolts are removed. Thread on of the bolts part way in. Put a socket on the bolt head so it hits the axle housing when the wheel is turned. It one of the best tricks I have learned.

HAHA, that's great! I feel like the hub stole the spotlight from the u joint but it definitely made it more interesting. I Tried to make this one a little different. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed.
2/3 LOL! Cool trick I learned when I brought my XJ to my buddies to swap the front end... once you get all the hbu bolts out thread em back in a bit and just whack the hub off from behind. Worked like a charm on my Northeast Dana 30's. Felt like a genuine fool after having spent so much time whacking (and like you said likely damaging) the hub. Maybe you can try it out on beach jeep. Thanks for breaking up the work day dan!
That's an excellent trick! I was actually going to use an air hammer on the back of the broken stud but i couldn't fit it under the tie rod! Ill definitely try it on the driver side! Thanks Sean!
@@ProjectDanH Ha! Glad to hear. You got me thinking whether or not there's enough room to swing a hammer with all the linkage in place. As I'm sure you can attest now, it might even be worth knocking off a TRE temporarily. Was this axle on a Jeep?

This is how I ended up getting my NE XJ hub off. Turning the steering wheel left and right gives you plenty of room with a 2 pound hammer and I put my 12 pnt 13mm socket on the bolt to protect the bolt head. Put on new hub after cleaning up the knuckle opening and greasing it so it will come off easier when I replace the seals next year.
Nice job Dan H.Looks like you got a hell of a work out beating that old hub off...lol...I hope the other side comes off better , if and when, you have to replace it.
I did these years ago on my MJ which was less then 10 yrs old at the time, separated the hubs with a sharpened Stanley wonder bar and it didn't even damage the brake cover, fast forward to yesterday when I did the same job on a 20 yr old XJ, garage floor covered in rust and penetrating oil, and I needed a much bigger hammer and had to resharpen the wonder bar twice. The brake cover is almost the same shape as when I started...
I replaced the u-joints on both sides of my xj last summer and I ran into a similar problem with the hubs being stuck on. My afternoon project turned into a 4 day job because I had to wait for new hubs to come in the mail. Needless to say, A LOT of anti-seize was applied to any contact point on both of the new hubs so the next time I have to take them off it's nice and easy.
Hi Are the those ujoints the same size as the drive train u joints.? Iknow its 5 for drive train. And 2 in front axle. But cant seem to get the right answer any where. I shop rock auto. And universal moog u joint says it fits from front axle to rear axle?. So that mean yes right?.
Lol.. Foreshadowing. haha... Jinx!... hilarious dude. Also, Eric has that same impact gun and it has pulled D30 axle nuts off for me without a screw driver or anything. Have you ever tried with yours?

Hey man I got a little known secret for ya.next time instead of sledge hammering your hub for removal simply replace 2 of the 3 12 point bolts but only thread them in part way ,put a socket bit on one and with a regular size hammer begin hitting while alternating from one side to the other.this will save your hub and your money.
