Reference Plane and Holes at (Any) Angle in FreeCAD - Free 3D CAD

Might be my version .21.2 but the instructions around the 5 minute mark do not work for me. The line will constrain to the center but do not pop in until I try to move one of the circles. The circles turn a different color, do not stay white. Then the following step selecting the centers of the circles and setting horizontal distance give an error "Datum 25.00 mm for the constraint with index 7 is invalid. Cannot continue from there. Since there's an error there, the pocked diappears the object and cannot complete. I tried setting the circles 25mm apart before symetric constraint but that failed also.

So the "Create External Geometry" button or icon is for to go back one sketch or a layer down to select existing construction elements.

External geometry allows you to create reference geometry to a previously created solid or geometry in the current Body.
This feature allows you to link the current sketch geometry to previously created geometry.
Not necessarily one layer down.
If you create a solid in, for example, 10 stages, in the 10th stage you can use the external geometry from the first stage.
