The care and attention that Matt gives every uke that he sells is obvious to repeat customers like me. I certainly wouldn’t go anywhere else to buy my Ukes. Thanks once again Matt for your conscientious, ethical and enthusiastic service.
Well worth buying from a specialist like World of Ukes. I bought a uke from you in person a couple of years and it was set up perfectly. Same with some guitars I have bought , a good set up and they are easier to play and sound better as well. Interesting to see what you do behind the scenes before sending them out.
I have just ordered an Uma Tenor ukulele from you and am so pleased I did after seeing the care and integrity you put into your work here (as a complete uke & music newbie I had very nearly ordered one on eBay...). Great work!
Hi Marc - Joyce was singing your praises. She actually had hers already... but you are right she is very pleased with it (well... both, as she got two!)
I really enjoyed this video and know why my ukulele arrived in such great shape. Shopping here from overseas has proven to be a pleasure on all levels. It also helps buyers understand the work you put in to ensure your customers receive a quality ukulele. Thanks!
I’ve bought a couple of Ukes from Matt & sent several others in his direction. I know the ukes sound great from the start and keep getting better.I I really appreciate this video so that I understand all the hard work that goes into sending out an instrument that’s best it can be .
I've had some great ukes from Matt. Attention to detail is always fantastic. I remember a Flight Goldtop Les Paul style electric that had some intonation issues out of the box. Matt sorted it like a boss and even sent some strings to alleviate the problem. Top quality service. Above and beyond!
Great to see behind the curtain, thanks Matt. It is a big part of your excellent customer service - you clearly care about getting the right uke and the uke right!
Fascinating Matt, great to see what my Ukes have gone through. This is why it is always best to buy from a specialist store. You take care of playability with every Uke you sell, regardless of price. Am sure the new owners are all delighted. Great video. Have a good week.
Happy birthday, World of Ukes! 🎉 This is a great video, Matt. We’re all aware that some set-up magic happens, but this gives us all a very tangible sense of what you do and, more to the point, how much time you spend on each and every instrument that goes out through your door. And it was nice to see what I presume is the very workshop bench my own ukes have sat on at some point, and comforting to know that the fingerboards of those ukes may well have been wiped clean with your clothy friend! Now we await a corresponding video from Alex at SUS to show us what they do (if they haven’t done one already)! 😉
I meant to ask … your video shows us what you do when you’re getting an instrument ready for dispatch to a customer, but what do you do when you’re packing a load of stuff up to take to a vendor hall, like July’s UFoGB in Cheltenham? Do you have to do that for everything beforehand?
@@neiljenkins2011 The ten days before Cheltenham was HORRIBLE. I was in until 9.30pm each night, doing them all. By the time I got to the festival I never wanted to see a ukulele again!
Thanks for taking the time to show some of the processes involved. As you know I have always appreciated your customer service now I know some of the background work. Cheers Matt. 🥃
Thank you. I didn't intend for it to be a full start to finish job, just a bit of a flavour. Some days I could have a two hour long video just one on uke (but think that might have been too sweary!)
Very interesting Matt. Although I was forced to learn setup as like many others started buying ukuleles from eBay and Amazon , i wonder how many people have given up learning to play due to horrendously high action?😢. The last instrument i bought was a Enya Mad blue tenor from yourself and after speaking to you ended up receiving a perfectly set up instrument that I knew you adjusted by a microscopic amount of white dust at the nut discovered with a magnifying glass 😂. Sadly this instrument has cured (i hope it's temporary 🤣) my UAS. Thanks for taking the time to make this video i learnt a lot 👍👊👋
@50mantravelling52 I agree. If a UA-cam influencer tells you that every Enya had a low action (which happens), and you get one from amazon (which they tell you to) and it doesn't.... if you're new to ukes and find it hard, then you're going to think that it's you, not the instrument, that's hampering your progress.
Great video Matt, appreciated. Really good to see what you do with the Ukes before you send them out. I've just ordered my 4th ukulele from you today so you must be doing something right eh. Cheers Matt
It's a lovely one, and on the way. Had I made the video with just Millars, it would have been a lot shorter. Mostly I just had to check it over as it was spot on :)
Hi mate my name is Rob and I live in Australia I’ve been playing ukelele for 6 months now and absolutely love it and can’t believe it took me this long to pick one up, but I have been a guitarist for over 30years. I’m 45 years old and would love to start ukelele home service and repair business. How did you learn the job?
Gee, I enjoyed seeing the setup process; absorbing and enlightening, thank you, Matt! I noticed how fond you are of your Ohana microfibre cloth, even appealing for a name for it. How about ‘Irving’? Further along in the video you embraced it as if dancing Cheek to Cheek. And Irving Berlin was the composer of that hit song. Hmm, many people have performed it, perhaps you prefer another name, like Ella, Billie, Ginger, Peggy Lee or Doris or Lady Gaga…. Anyway, nice that you have a trusted constant companion when stuck in the engine room working away! Lastly, if there was ever a chapter to add to this video, would it be possible to discuss ukes with an intonation issue? I’m certainly curious to see how such a thing is cured. Thanks again for such an insightful video. I have given so much custom to SUS. Seems the alliance between you ukulele advocates and sellers is a super friendly rivalry. I’m kind of all “uked up” right now, but every time I feel like I have enough another one catches my eye… maybe I should browse the World of Ukes site next!! Cheers
With intonation it's tricky. There's two levels of intonation for me - tuner accurate and ear accurate. Rarely would I see anything, of any price level, where every fret on every string is perfect with a tuner. But I think practically, a minute fraction sharp or flat, when you're playing music, you can't detect (like a tuner can). Most things from reputatable brands are at least 'ear accurate'. Most commonly string issues can cause problems. I've just had Flight Aurora that was fine, then wasn't. Changed the strings (and the type) and it's good again. Strings get tiny, often not visible to the eye, dints, scratches etc. Over time they can go off or that cumulative damage causes them not to vibrate in the same way. A string change can be the easiest option. The other things I've described, levelling frets, adjusting action at nut and saddle and changing the break angle can all combine too to improve matters. I rarely come across anything that one of these factors won't cure! (And thanks for the suggestion - I went for 'Ragnar' in the end, and it's stuck)
Very thorough Matt, well done. Great customer service. Could I suggest a name for your oily rag, Loubeelou (in honour of Andy Pandy's friend). Spelling of name may be dodgy.
Matt, I'm guessing there's a good dose of Viking in your DNA so your 'only friend' could be Ragnar the Wiping. When he eventually goes to Valhalla, his successor would, of course, be Ragnar Ragnarsson.

Thanks John, that's lovely.
I have bought a number of instruments from Matt and wont buy a new one from anyone else - all have been well set up! Thanks Matt.
Thanks Peter, that's kind.

That really was fascinating. Thank you for taking the trouble and spending the time.
@tarnmonath no probs! Just turned a camera on what I do all day. And talked to the camera instead of myself for a change!
This is why I always shop from stores that include the setups. A lot of extra work goes into it. I appreciate stores like this.
