the fact that the flames as a team have hit 76 posts/crossbar is just insane
And something like 41 1-goal games. Just crazy unlucky and probably the most frustrating season I've watched in years
@@Proxyy7 Not to mention constantly outshooting opponents by ludicrous margins and still losing.
Imagine where the Flames would be if 90% of those had gone in. 68 more goals. Who knows how many more games won. Probably top of the Pacific. Definitely a better year than last year.
They’re currently at 226 GF, 222 GA. They would be at 296 GF, which would be #1 best in the league. Who knows how many less GA they’d have due to OTL (at least 15 so far). They currently have 35.5 Shots/GP, 2nd highest in the league, and 27.2 SA/GP, again the 2nd lowest in the league. On paper they should be one of the best teams in the league, and yet everything has fallen apart. I don’t think we really need to be selling or buying. We have a good team. I think they need to play differently, and that means being coached differently. As much as I like Sutter, I don’t think he’s a good fit for the new, rebuilt offensive core. We’re not the same team as the mid to late 2010’s Flames. Results come from playing, and the playing is guided and shaped by the coaching, and the coaching has to best fit the roster. Daryl has his style of coaching, his particular way for teams to play, and while it is good in the right scenarios with the right teams, it’s becoming outdated, and doesn’t fit the new roster. Maybe give Darryl until a quarter way through next season, and if we’re still floundering, it’s time for a coaching change. And that would be the ultimate, and likely final test for Treliving.

The hidden gem in all of this is Sasha Barkov.
His name is Alexander
@@alexjones6190 Sasha is a common nickname for Alexander in Slavic languages
@@alexjones6190 Sasha is his nickname. You just start watching hockey this month? Edit: Just seen your name is alex jones. That explains a lot

Tkachuk isn’t even on a line with barkov. He’s with Sam Bennett and carter verhaeghe. And that line as the second line is absolutely insane pretty much every game
Glad you are calling it accurately.. CGY organization just had no choice.. Really stinks because once upon a time, we had franchise players, and loyalty. It was clear CGY would have done anything to keep them both.. But here we are, absolutely no fault to CGY.. did what they had to do.. easily could have been much worse.
Blame Trudeau lol
This is much worse. They're the same fucking mediocre team they've always been!😩
Whos fault was it?
These players did not want to be in Calgary, and probably ,did not want to be in Canada!Taxes, climate, family!
Could've easily been much better as well. That package for Tkachuk was garbage from Day 1.
Calgary is a hard city to play in. Fans are ruthless, pretty much like most Canadian teams.
And half of them are morons who think they know hockey better than Darryl.
Passionate, yes. But they’re not that bad. The Flames fanbase are actually one of the nicest, according to a league wide survey from all teams. Toronto made most of the #1 spots, and by wide margins too, particularly for “Which team’s fanbase is the most insufferable?” and “Which team’s fanbase is the most delusional?”. Montreal and Edmonton also scored high, and Vancouver didn’t get good results either. Calgary, Ottawa, and Winnipeg have the nicest Canadian NHL teams fanbases.
@@JesusFriedChrist What big time free agent or real good player demands a trade to a Canadian team? Tavares is the only one I can think of, and that was years ago. How has it worked out for him ? Canadian teams don't win cups. Way better to play down south , tax reasons , people don't care about hockey no pressure , good weather etc.
Tkachuk didn't really play with Gaudreau until their last two years with the Flames, and he was still productive, so I never thought of him as a guy riding Gaudreau's coat tails. He was always good.
I don't think we'll ever see Huberdeau get 100 points again, but he can be an 80-90 point guy, and that'll make it easier to take. He needs someone to finish his passes. Maybe that can be Matt Coronato, if the Flames can ever get him signed.
From the Florida standpoint, though, this was just like Christmas. Both Huberdeau & Weegar had poor series vs. Tampa last year, and those guys were coming up for new contracts and Florida didn't want to pay them what the Flames ended up paying them, so they got rid of two guys they were ready to move on from and could have lost for nothing in return, and in doing so got Matt Tkachuk.
glad to see weegar go tbh
hopefully we can start drafting a bit better and get some guys who can finish passes from him better imo our prospect pool is not good at all outside of a couple players
From when I have watched of Huberdeau he needs to shoot more in order to make his passing game more effective. In order to be most effective as a setup man there needs to be a credible threat that you will sometimes actually take the shot yourself, or the D will favor defending against the pass.
222 shots last year, on pace for about 130 this year.
I don't think we were unfounded in our thinking that Tkachuk would fall off a bit after leaving Johnny and Lindholm. I think he has taken a massive step in his game from last year and is currently maybe the most underrated player in the league.
He plays with Barkov now
no that would be clayton keller
@@noahmatthew6658 No, he is leading his own line with Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe
He was nothing against Edmonton in the playoffs last year. He needs to fix what ever was going on there to get true respect.
He's not a playoff performer in general
Best keep your hopes down if you were expecting Hubderdeau and Weegar to be Playoff guys...
well huberdeau and weegar can continue that for the flames lmao
Trade was good, resignings were the bad part. Like you said, Tre made something from nothing. Tkachuk was gone, team knew ahead of time and got return. Imagine the sign and trade deal for JH had they known? Lettings players walk for free is no bueno
Tkacuck refused to sign in CGY so idk what else we were supposed to do
They got a ton back for him too. There was no way of knowing Huberdeau would have such a down year. I'm sure he will be back next season though with the right mindset.
I know right, hands absolutely tied and Tre saw a way to stay competitive. Absolutely disappointing season in the (near) end, but how can you really blame him for making that move?
@@Proxyy7 The new contract, though. That's going to be an anchor around their necks for a long time. It's probably going to end up being bought out.
The advanced metrics crowd saw this one coming a mile away, for what its worth
Love your videos man I don't know how you keep up with this stuff
This trade has flashbacks to me of the Gilmour for Gary Leeman trade. Huberdeau is the Leeman. Flames got a boatload of spare parts in that trade too.
Huby is having a horrible season but he is more of an assist guy honestly, last season he set a record for assists by LW 85/115, but you're right that trade looks bad now but seemed decent considering the situation at the time.
he’s not getting that many assists either. i hope to god it’s just an off year because we traded my favourite player to get him and i had hope for the situation. don’t wanna see him do this for 8 more years at 11 million, or whatever we pay him
@@mph650 he was looking solid at the start of the year but his performance has really faded off as of recent
I was sick the day the Flames lost Tkachuk. He should have been the next captain of the Flames. He was the heart and soul of the team.
Given all the variables of the situation I don’t think it was a bad trade and a person can see what Brad was trying to do. The max contracts before a single game as a Flame actually I think was the mistake. Trying to get something for a superstar leaving the team makes sense, the immediate contracts handed out didn’t.
It was a bad trade. Could've got way better players than a #3 dman and a soft winger that's a perimeter player
I’m a leafs fan and I never doubted Matthew Thachuck, always saw him as the better brother. Can’t say I’m surprised about his production, even with not playing with Barkov (he doesn’t). Really saw potential in him.Just like how Tom Wilson exploded too(obviously lower potential).
Let's hope next season turns out better for Calgary and Huberdeau.
We absolutely need them to at least step it up and make the playoffs. How else are we going to get a replacement for the crying Johnny Ohio picture? And its just not the same shitting on sharks fans, or vegas fans, western Canada needs its tire fire back in relevance, its not fun without you guys.
This trade was literally an amazing return and Flames fans need to be patient with Hubs. He just can't handle a coach who kicks his ass like Sutter. Once Sutter goes back ranching, they will get a coach in who can powder Hubs ass and he will be fine.
Matthew is 24 years old and was a restricted free agent. Back to back 100 point seasons. I think Matthew cared lindholm and Johnny
Kinda disagree. Thought the Flames did well in the Tkachuk trade. But signing Huberdeau to an 10.5m X 8 year extension which starts at age 30 was a big mistake. 10.5m could have be spent better, a lot better
@Keith Ball Gaudreau was offered that first. Then when we brought in Huberdeau I doubt his agent would let him take any less. I mean they are the exact same age and produced the exact amount of points for 21 22 and roughly the same amount of total points in their careers
He may put up points in the regular season but he'll disappear in the playoffs.
@@NativeJoel For the Flames and Huberdeau's sake I hope Hubie plays to his contract. But resigning a player to 10.5m X 8 contract which starts when he's 30, looks like a losing proposition. Contracts shouldn't be based on what a play did in there past but what the expectation is in the future.
something smelled funny when Florida was happy to give up a 115 point player, a right handed d man, a prospect AND a 1st round pick for a 100 point player. Florida knew they were giving up 2 duds. Otherwise they would have offered Huberdeau for Tkachuk 1:1 because it would have been 115 points for 100 points. But Florida knew they were fleecing the Flames and Trevliving
Fleecing is understatement. This was a scam.
Huberdeau and Weegar are locked up long-term so they still have some Seasons to bounce back and show why Calgary made this trade
i mean well see huby basically exiting his prime and weegs hasnt shown much change in like 3 years so
@@williambarnes8865 Weegar has great defensive metrics
Treliving had no choice. Both Johnny Hockey and Matthew Tkachuk made it clear they were not signing. That's hockey!
I think your exactly right Tkachuk is gonna be the reason florida gets into the playoffs and idk what’s going with Huberdeau but tkachuk is making that trade look sooooo bad for the flames.
I'd say it's really Huby and his extension that makes this trade horrible for CGY
It's not like Calgary had an option to resign Tkachuk for more than one year. You can't force a UFA to sign with your team. Just look at Gaudreau
Aged like milk. 4 L's in a row. No playoffs for us this year
Live close to London, as a Knights fan we got to see Tkachuk for a year and you knew he was going to be an elite player in the NHL. Big game player as well, as he scored the Memorial Cup OT winner ..... 🏆
it doesn't make me sick because he didn't want to play for the flames anymore. huberdeau wasn't supposed to match chuck. it was the best deal they could get.
Huberdeau I thought of more as a replacement for Gaudreau, not Tkachuk. But even playing on the worst team in the league, Gaudreau is producing at a far higher rate than Huberdeau.
@@RRaquello very true. i don't think Huberdeau fits well under sutter's structure. still, you had a player like chuck that refused to sign with the flames.
@@Mike-zf4xg They had to trade Tkachuk and get the best deal possible. There was no choice. I think the real choice was whether you tried to get established players or top prospects in return. That decision would be based on how close you think you are to competing for the cup. The Flames thought they were close, so they went after established players, in Huberdeau & Weegar.
The other complication was that Tkachuk was only a year away from UFA. So he could pretty much dictate where he wanted to go. If Treliving got, for example, an offer from Montreal, Cole Caulfield for Tkachuk, that would be a good deal, but Tkachuk could say, "I'm not signing with Montreal long term" and it would kill the deal. Tkachuk could give a list of teams he was willing to sign a long term deal with and those were basically the only teams that would give up anything worthwhile for him. In effect, it's about the same as a no trade clause.
Give it another year then we’ll see if this deal was a bust. The potential is there for the Flames, maybe a new coach in the summer will be the game changer.
A new coach won't fix anything without new, better players. This team has little talent and less character.
@@dw4867 Look at the player stats for last year. The non-1st liners were doing fantastic. This team doesn’t lack talent. This team has talent that is not being fought to light. A diamond in the rough.
One year later: Stanley cup champion
Florida got the cup now. How’s huby doing for the flames?
What many failed to realize in the excitement of last year's movements for the Flames, was that both Huberdeau and Kadri had come off of EXTREME outlier years in terms of points. Going in to the 2021-22 season, Huberdeau was a 0.84 ppg player. In other words, an average 82 game season for him was 69 points. His 115 point season was a 70% increase in production from his established norm. This year he's at 0.7 ppg, so slightly less than his career average, but a lot more representative of what to expect from him, than his 115 point season. This is especially true since he does not have a centerman of Barkov's caliber to play with anymore. The same is true for Kadri. Same argument as above, but lower numbers (career ppg before 2021 was 0.64, 2021-22 was a 92% increase in production). Kadri this year is at 0.68 ppg, so he's actually above is career average if you take out 2021-22. So what's the point? Can an NHL player have a breakout year and establish much higher 'normal' production? Of course - Tage Thompson says 'hello'. HOWEVER - it almost never happens after a player passes their mid-20s. Case in point - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is on track for a 100 point season which would be 66% over his normal production. But at 29 years old, it is very unlikely this is the new normal for him.
Huberdeau had been pretty comfortably above ppg for the previous four seasons prior to this and that's pretty much been the expectation from anyone not trying to peddle the BS peddled in the comment I'm replying to. The dropoff from last year and the three previous years is massive. He's on pace to have his like 4th worst season ppg wise in his career. And the top three were his first three in the league which is understandable as it takes time to adjust. (He's just barely beating his third season in the league ppg, we'll see if he even beats it by year end.)
The criticism is completely warranted.
Thanks for the very solid analysis. To expect Huberndeau and probably Kadri to be worth their contracts in their early 30s and beyond is just wishful thinking
I don’t know why trevelling acted like his hands were tied when tkachuk was a restricted free agent. Traded him for 2 players who could of walked at free agency from there current team. Gambled Calgary’s future and potentially could cost Calgary it’s franchise. Calgary had every reason to go into rebuild mode. Drafting benard could of got Calgary a new arena and up and coming fans.
Because everything else about the team was built for a Cup run. I mean, logically, they lost a 115pt 29 year old and gained a 115pt 29 year old. And a top 4 defenseman.
I don't think anyone in the league expected the Flames elite players like Huberdeau and Markstrom to nosedive this hard. With even average play from everyone, they'd probably be in the cup conversation. Now there's a good chance they're not even in the playoffs.
@@NativeJoel hard agree. The flames consistently outperform outshoot their opponents by almost 2-1 in nearly every game, so the team as a whole is solid, but they can’t get enough quality scoring chances because the players that are supposed to be the big stars just aren’t performing. Add some slightly iffy goaltending and you have a team that’s just bad enough to miss both the playoffs and any decent draft odds.
@@samuelsheldon7829 shots are great but they often don't tell the whole story because perimeter shots are weak with a small chance of going in and on top of that if a team is chasing in a game they generally tend to shoot more.
I would be more interested in how many dangerous grade A scoring chances they are getting each game vs how many their opponents are getting.
Not to mention an abysmal OT record. If they had won 50% of OT games, they'd have 4 or 5 more points
I ate so much 💩 as a panthers fan for loving the trade all summer…feels good now tho. Chucky is a damn blessing for our franchise. I do have to admit I’m shocked at how far Huberdeau has regressed. He’s gotta bounce back and at least be a 70-80 point player for the next few years or y’all are F’d.
With cap space at a premium he would have had his pick of free agents. Also yeah a chance to get Bedard ( not that it woulda happened) but at least a top 3 or 4 pick might have been the better move long term. It's clear he panicked to lose not one but two players who you thought you were gonna build around that's tough.
You're right, and this happens all the time. Teams trade for a player and then to justify the trade they feel they just HAVE to sign those player(s). Flames would have infinitely better not resigning 10.5m Huberndeau and used the cap to sign other player(s)
You know what they say, get busy Treliving or get busy Tredying!
This is just perception. Some of us think this is wonderful.
Tkachuk was gonna jump ship. They had to deal him. The deal could have been a hell of a lot worse.
Should've been a hell of a lot better
Those florida jerseys look sick
i think with a new coach Calgary can still have another couple years of window, like 3 max though. no shade against Sutter, the guy is a legend. but his style just doesn't work anymore and he doesn't even have the players to pull it off anyways.
i think the flames with a good year from markstrom and new system could easily be sniffing the top of their division again.
This team wouldn’t even be near the playoffs without Sutter. I think that is a horrible idea.
The trade had to be made. What is tragic is signing Huberdeau to a monster contract which is already looking terrible... and there's 8 more years at $10.5...ouch.
Imho mat fits in more in fla, let him shine, Calgary too they got the skill this year just have to capitalize on the grit, they had some pretty good pick ups as well. As an Oiler fan I'd like to see em squeeze in the last wild card spot.
I think after last night, it might be dead
Yup I was right there with you, literally all the signs pointed to Tkachuk regressing and in a big way.
Turns out reality doesn't really care what the numbers indicate, Tkachuk has been a beast and while I don't know if I'd call him a top 5 player in the league I'm certainly not gonna bet against him again.
What signs pointed to him regressing?
Yep... look bad on flames side now , My guess is that is asset will be traded at the draft
You can never win that trade. Trading a franchise guy never works for the team trading the franchise guy
Finally a team picked from day one accomplishes what everyone picked them to do. Win it all. Congrats Panthers.
I was absolutely furious when Tkachuk left Calgary. He was the reason I became a flames fan. The part about this that hurts the most is that he’s only 25 years old. He’s only gonna get better and better. We literally lost a top 5 player in the NHL, he’s literally everything you can ask for in a player. The Panthers struck an absolute gem
Huberdeau was elite with barkov too. Top five is a tough look
I was devastated when he said he was leaving. We should have kept him and given him the C.
When the trade was made, most Calgary fans were calling Treliving a genius before any players played their first game!
Huberdeau needs that goal scoring center. He’s a playmaking winger so he needs someone who’s going to put the puck in the net.
Comparing them makes no sense. Huberdeau and weegar were traded for because tkachuck was leaving no matter what. This was the flames way of getting something in return instead of just holding their hands up and letting him walk.
I'm thinking that Huberdeau will have a bounce-back year next season. I also think the Flames are going to make some moves at the draft. They have a number of players going into their last year of their contracts and likely have let Tre know whether they want to re-sign in CGY.
Treliving is gone, and the Flames are fucked
I totally get the excitement around Tchuck, but actually look at the Panthers' place in the standings this year vs. last.
That’s not because of Thuchuck. That’s because they made some other boneheaded move more in terms of coaching and mgt.
The trade was a no brainer from Calgary's perspective. Signing both of those players to max length contracts before they ever played a game for Calgary was beyond stupid. He could've at least waited until the trade deadline to have options in case Huberdeau and Weegar panned out the way they did
Agree with you. And even if the players "walked" this summer, Flames would have 16.75m in cap instead of those players. Weager might be an OK contract but IMO Huberdeau is going to be horrid for the Flames. He's not worth 10.5m now and for eight years which ends at end of age 37....yikes
@@keithball6480 Well Johny walked for free and I don't think it's fantastic idea to let your top players to walk free. There is usually no super amazing ufa deals because top tier players are usually signed before. I think there was only two options. Sing them before deadline or trade them
Never thought that year one with flames new core would be playoff worthy. But I definitely thought that Florida would be a playoff team with Tkat addition. Again way to premature to call either sides winners or losers until their deals are done.
Tkachuk is the player you hate in the league but would love to have on your team. He reminds me of how much I hated Perry on the Ducks but loved him on my fantasy league team and wished both played for the Kings.
What a move - both teams still (technically) have a chance to make the playoffs.
Great trade. Bad bad contract.
Panthers won the Presidents trophy last year to being out of the playoffs..... nearly the exact same situation as the Flames.
Huberdeau was an average player at best while playing for Quenneville (hard ass) but became a superstar under Maurice.
The trade was phenomenal and looking back it was still a phenomenal trade…..the asset management piece was and is the problem. Under no circumstances should the Flames have signed both those players to long term contracts; the right play would have been to trade them for elite prospects and or draft picks. The Flames management for some reason thought they had a championship “window” that was still open. Obtaining prospects and picks to develop and shape the team for the future (+2026) would have been the right play.
What is frustrating as a Flames fan is that Treliving and to some extent their pro scouts continue to make the same mistakes with talent evaluation and long term unmovable contracts time and time again.
It's been 1 season. Give the dude 1 bad year man he didn't even ask to be traded.
It's always difficult to rate a trade based on one year. Huberdeau is an excellent player and may end up being a key piece for the Flames down the road.
Nope. It's only going to get worse for Calgary.
Hindsight is 20/20, but it shouldn’t be that surprising Tkachuk is producing. Good things happen when you drive the net, and that is Tkachuks game to a tee.
77 Posts makes this look so horrible, but it's no excuse either way. You need to finish your quality chances, but I can't help but look at the 38.5 (rounded to 39) goals we could have if they were just 50% more lucky on posts. That probably gives Huberdeau +0-2 G and +7-9 A, not close to Tkachuk but it looks a little less worse.
McDavid is on a completely different level. Jesus..
what would happened if Oilers drafted tchachuk at 4 instead of puljujarvi in that draft? mcdavid draisatl tkatchuk line?
You're fair to compare Tkachuk and Huberdau by examining points, but you can't factor in Weeger and expect it to be a fair argument. Weeger was never brought in to score goals. His primary role is to ensure the other team stops scoring. So while I do understand what you're saying, it's not fair to examine Weeger on the basis of points. That comparison is sound if done with a forward, but not with a defenceman.
It was obvious who the best player was in the trade. Look at what he did at 24. It was a panic deal. Calgary made it worse by extending Hubie at a ridiculous price and term. Had they waited they could have dumped him at the trade deadline for picks or younger players and kept the cap room. They also gave up a first rounder to move Monahan with one year left. If they had put up Tkachuk for sale to the highest bidder they would have got a better return and they would have had lots of time to wait for a better deal. They should have traded Gaudreau last year when he did not extend. Bad asset management. It is a business the fans would have understood.
Analysts said after the Tkachuk trade that the Flames actually made the team better with Huberdeau and Weeger. They also locked those two up long-term and for a ton of money, so Flames' fans better get used to seeing those two for a very long time...Lolol
It was a better deal overall for Calgary. They knew Tkachuk wasn't gonna resign and Hubey is having a down year, as is Kadri. Some players come out great with a new team while others take time adjusting.
@@jeffreycairns767 Kadri is 32 years old and Huberdeau will be 30 before his 8 years deal kicks it. They have peaked and on the way down as almost all players will be by their mid 30s. Bad signings by the Flames
@@jeffreycairns767 It's ok, there's 7 more years to watch Hubes adjust. He's definitely NOT going anywhere...Lolol
CGY was caught in a tough situation forced to make a trade there. Trouble was the value just was not available. At a glance it may have looked like a good trade but you get Huberdeau after an outlier season. It's the only time in his career he has put up #'s at that level and quite unlikely a level that he will reach again. I think there might be 4-5 players in the league that gets value in that trade and JH simply isn't one them.
but we have to remember Huberdue got traded on short notice during the offseason and was really angry about it so maybe he is still settling in
And you think he's gotten less angry abiut it?
The think is Tkachuk isnt even on the same line as Barkov. We got fleeced.
The one question people are not asking, can he keep it up? My guess, no. Tkachuk is on a honeymoon phase with Florida which will die out especially if coaching changes happen due to most likely missing the playoffs.
Florida going from President's trophy winners to struggling for a wildcard spot should make Flames fans feel better.
Hub is a passer most of his point last year were assists. I said since the start of the season if they don't find a goals scorer they're doomed
I have no issue with the trade, he made the best out of a bad situation. What I do dislike him for is signing Huberdeau and Weegar to such extensive contracts. Now we are stuck with them.
I thought you where gonna say He has more Points then Kadri and Hubby Combine
As a flames fan since theyr lastcteat on Atlanta, thos doesn't make me sick.
The flames misting the playoffs by 2,3 or 4 points dutifully g the Iginla years, whilst losing 5 if 6 to Phoenix, made me absolutely sick.
I could go on, but this is just disappointing. As you said the trade gas raged terribly but this result was always inside the realm of possibilities, especially considering how good Tkachuk is...
I think your grammar and spelling is what makes me sick.
Hoping he gets to 110 pts this year
It’s not Tre’s fault and the team can’t help it if a player wants to leave.
I think Huberdeau bounces back next year if the team ditches Sutter (which they should)
i feel like both teams got the worse from this trade, yeah tkachuk having 90+ pts is a W but look at how both teams are in the standings, if the flames decided the trade they would of had lindholm, tkachuk and toffoli on the first line, line chemistry would still be good because tkachuk and lindholm would still be together, panthers would have huby, barkov and reinhart as first line, then weegar and ekblad as the first defence pair,
Sutter played Hubes on his off side for most of the season...I think I know where the problem is.
Before we really throw Huberdeau under a the bus , consider that he's playing in a defensive minded Darryl Sutter system. I could argue everyone on that Flames squad is having a down year. Toffoli being the anomaly .
This trade is starting to go down as one of the worst of my lifetime. It as a no win situation, and they certainly did not win.
Huberdeau also wanted to stay a Panther. We miss him and in a perfect world we'd have him and Chucky. Keep Weegs though haha
The Flames were that close to being a real cup contender!! One or two players and who knows!! Those two players took the money and ran!! 15 O.T. losses certainly don't help either!! And of course Markstrom??? And Huberdoughs disastrous year !! Hopefully just a one off!! Go Flames!!!!
I always defended Tkachuk when people said he got his points because of Gaudreau. Just like in junior when supposedly Marner was the only reason Tkachuk got points. Gaudreau wasn't even a 100 point player before playing with Tkachuk and now the argument can be made that Gaudreau needed Tkachuk to hit 100+
Doesnt he also have more than double huberdeaus points? 97 to 48?
yes. this guy can't add.
Honestly both Florida and Calgary got worse with that trade. But man you kinda gotta feel for the citizens of Calgary with the state of their franchise, Flames are just chronic underachievers. Praying they get the govenments approval for a new arena soon, wouldn't want to see them gone.
Florida didnt get worse with the trade, it's their injuries and salary cap problems this year, not to mention the goaltending early on. If those weren't factors, the trade made florida 10x better. Florida destroyed Calgary in that trade and got better from it.
Even when the Flames have a good season, they blow in the playoffs. I think since they won the cup, which is 34 years ago, they've gotten past the second round exactly once. That has to be the worst record in the league.
@@tylerporter1128 they both have 79 points right now, Panthers are just lucky the Pens are blowing it
@@DC-yl4vc what does that have to do with anything I said?
As a flames fan, I still think Tre did the best hew could, I think both teams 'won' the trade. I'm loving seeing matthew kill it in Florida
Tkachuk doesn't play very much with Barky either. Bennett is his regular center.
That comparison is so bad in many points. Players are not only measured in points or goals.
As of today, it seems playoffs would be without both teams.
For the situation the Flames were in, this is still a great outcome. Turtlechuk has stated he wouldn`t sign long term in Calgary and Gaudreau was gone anyway, who was responsible for a lot of Tkachuks points.
I doubt that Tkachuk would be anywhere close to these numbers if he would play with the Flames next to Lindholm or an aging Backlund. Nor with the more defensive style of hockey the Flames play.
It helps to have a PP with Barkov in terms of points.
For being completly screwed, the Flames got a pretty good return for a player that was out of the door.
That sucks😢
Flames missing the playoffs, while the Panthers squeezing in would have made this look even worse!!
Barkov doesn't get enough credit.
Yeah, look how good he makes Thuchuck look without even playing on the same line as him.
Well, on the bright side, this year at least, Huberdeau & Weegar combined, are slightly less of a cap hit than Tkachuk.
I don’t think anyone saw this coming. At the time of the trade it looked like Florida got absolutely fleeced
Little did we know this was a scam job by Florida.
@@etahhcumosevahi yep
Keith tkachuk was a tremendous player
I was saying at the time Tkachuk is better than Huberdeau and people called me delusional lol
And there’s Leon and Connor at the top. Canadian , German , Russian , American interesting
Brad may have to make a coaching change in the offseason it could turn around for Calgary look at the Boston Bruins and that's if the ownership decide to keep Brad around after this season that's my opinion as an Oilers fan looking from the outside the flames should be a much better hockey team than they are right now
Did you just seriously compare the Flames to Boston?
@@johanstinson lol where did you get that from that comment i made??
Tkachuck hit 100+ points playing w Reinhart and Bennett most of the season, only plays w Barky when Maurice needs to make a shift for a bit or on the powerplay
What do flames fans and critics say when tkchuck leaves for nothing. They would be so pissed. But they got 2 decent players and one of whom has not even played close to what he was before the trade. Ahem looking at you Johnny. And if huberdough was playing with gaudreau he would of had a better year to.
Tkachuk didn't want to be in Calgary, so the trade doesn't really matter.
